1 CAREER ACADEMY AVAILABLE PROGRAMS AND DESCRIPTIONS AUTO/DIESEL CAREERS Auto Collision Technology - Applied Technology Center, State St. This program, when finished through an Associate Degree, covers the entire scope of the auto collision field, including basic and advanced metal finishing repair, frame repair and alignment, panel replacement, major body repair, estimating, and all aspects of automotive painting using the latest technology. Auto Collision Estimating Auto Collision Technology Auto Collision Technology Automotive Technology - South Omaha Campus, 27 th & Q, Mahoney Building The Automotive Technology program is NATEF certified, hands-on, and focuses on preparing students for careers in the automotive field. The program works closely with regional and national industry to encourage growth and training in preparation for real-world work environments. This program utilizes the most current technology and testing equipment to enhance the training required by today's automotive industry. Driver s License Required - Juniors Preferred Students must receive passing grades in order to remain in the academy. Optional Automotive summer internship. Must be 17 years of age before June 1, Purchase of internship tool set required. Numerous National Coalition of Certification Centers, NC3, Certificates are available to students who successfully completes classes. Automotive Electronics Automotive Brakes and Suspension Automotive Technician Helper Automotive Transmissions and Transaxles Basic Automotive Service Automotive Under Vehicle Specialist Automotive Technology Diesel Technology - Applied Technology Center, State St. The Diesel Technology program prepares students for a career in the growing transportation industry. The curriculum addresses the latest technology in engine repair, hydraulic and electrical systems, test procedures and diagnostics, and power generation. Students passing all of the Career Academy classes and two additional classes, DESL 2200 and WELD 1261, will receive a career certificate in Diesel Truck*. This career certificate provides the knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level position in the transportation industry. The career certificate provides students with fundamental instruction in the basic operation of diesel engines, service, brakes, electrical systems, and power trains. First Year students are required to attend the two week summer session for screening into the fall program. 2 HEALTH and PUBLIC SERVICE CAREERS Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - South Omaha Campus, 27 th & Q, Mahoney Building Numerous and diverse opportunities exist in the area of health and public services. This academy provides students an exposure to the medical area with CPR, First Aid, Medical Terminology, Employability Skills, and a CNA certification upon completion. Students must receive passing grades in order to remain in the academy. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - South Omaha Campus, 27 th & Q, Mahoney Building This academy gives students exposure to work as a Paramedic with fire departments, transport services, or in a hospital emergency room. This academy provides students an exposure to the medical area with CPR, First Aid, Medical Terminology, Employability Skills, and the first course of the EMT program of study. Students who complete EMSP 1100 will be in the National registry as an EMT. Students must receive passing grades in order to remain in the academy Fire Technology- Applied Technology Center, State St This academy provides a unique opportunity to build professional skills and expand career possibilities. Insurance investigators, and adjusters, industrial safety specialists, fire protection system designers, and professionals, and volunteer firefighters benefit from enrolling in the Fire Technology program. Students must receive passing grades in order to remain in the academy Criminal Justice - Sarpy Center, 91 st and Giles This academy provides practical knowledge of the criminal justice system and operations. Study focuses on local law enforcement, judicial processes, corrections, and homeland security. The academy also explores the criminal justice system s role within society. In addition to police careers, the Criminal Justice program also leads to the following opportunities: 911 Dispatcher U.S. Marshal Defense Attorney Crime Lab Specialist Game Warden FBI Agent State Trooper Probation/Parole Officer Court Bailiff Criminal Justice Professor District Attorney Forest Ranger Prison Guard Secret Service

3 VIDEO/AUDIO COMMUNICATIONS ARTS Digital Cinema/Filmmaking - Elkhorn Valley Campus, 204th & Dodge The Video/Audio Communication Arts program teaches students the production process for television, film, commercial, and other media production. Students learn to use professional moving image cameras in the field and the studio. Students learn how to record quality professional audio in the field and studio. Students learn how to write scripts for feature films, commercials, and corporate industrial media. Students also learn how to edit and manipulate visual and sound media using industry standard professional tools and software. Video/Audio Communications Arts Digital Cinema Video/Audio Communications Arts Screenwriting Video/Audio Communications Arts Sound Recording Video/Audio Communication Arts BUSINESS AND HUMAN SERVICES Business for Starters - Fort Omaha Campus, 30th and Fort, Building 7 Students learn hand-on principles in financial studies including the real estate, insurance, and entrepreneurship. Upon satisfactory completion, students will receive a Career Certificate in Financial Studies. Potential additional certifications: at age 18, those with a grade of C or better in both REES 1000 and REES 1100 may take the Nebraska Real Estate exam for certification for employment in the Real Estate industry. Upon satisfactory completion of INSU 1000, pre-certification exam may be taken with the Nebraska Insurance Commission for Licensure for employment in the insurance field. Additional employment and life skills are gained in Customer Service and Financial Literacy. Certificate of Achievement Financial Studies (BMFCC) Business Management - Generalist (BGAAS)

4 SOCIAL SCIENCES Early Childhood Education - Learning Community of North Omaha (24th and Franklin) The Early Childhood Education program prepares students for employment as a head teacher or director of childcare facilities. Learning opportunities center on curriculum planning, managing, and teaching within a childcare facility. Skills essential to working with parents and children in a variety of settings and activities are stressed. Students finishing this academy will receive the Early Childhood Generalist Career Certificate*. A criminal background investigation and checks of the child abuse/neglect, adult protective services and State Patrol sex offender registries will be required of each student in the Early Childhood Education Program. Based on the result of the criminal background and registry checks, a student may be prevented from taking certain courses, accessing certain laboratory/practicum experiences, or completing the program. A nonrefundable fee of $35 will be assessed to the student s MCC student account for the criminal background and registry checks. The National Association accredits the Early Childhood Education program for the Education of Young Children, requiring high standards in the preparation of early childhood education employees. Theatre studies strengthen interpersonal communication and public presentation skills; develop critical thinking and collaborative skills; and give a solid background in interdisciplinary arts, social awareness, and appreciation of diverse cultures. An associate degree, certificate of achievement, and career certificate are available across several options, including concrete/masonry, general, residential, commercial, management, remodeling, and finish/cabinetry. Students gain practical experience in a lab setting, applying their skills to real world situations. The Builder Foundation Scholarship, 15 scholarships available for accepted construction Career Academy students. More information will be given to accepted students. Cabinetry Construction Commercial Construction Construction Management General Construction/Remodeling Masonry and Concrete Construction Residential Carpentry Residential Finish Carpentry Home Energy Professional (Weatherization) Solar Air Systems Solar Technology Concrete and Masonry Specialist Framing and Finishing Specialist Construction and Building Commercial Construction Concrete/Masonry Construction Construction Management General Construction/Remodeling Residential Carpentry Residential Finish Carpentry/Cabinetry Process Operations Technology - South Omaha Campus, 27th & Q This program provides training and advancement opportunities for entry-level employees in a variety of continuous process operating plants. These include ethanol and bio-diesel plants along with other bioprocessing industries. A complete power plant operations option is also available. Students are trained to operate and maintain process plants and power generating plants. Hands-on training in lab settings simulates real work environments. Students completing the first year can earn a Manufacturing Process Operations career certificate. Students completing the second year can earn a Stationary Engineer career certificate. 6 TRADE CAREERS Electrical Technology - South Omaha Campus, 27th & Q The Electrical Technology program provides education and training for students who wish to join the electrical field. Students entering into this program study electrical systems in residential wiring, commercial wiring, and industrial motor controls. Residential Electrical Solar Electric Systems Building Electrical Electrical Technology Precision Machine Technology - South Omaha Campus, 27th & Q The Precision Machine Technology program serves students by providing a diverse education in the trades, maintenance, and distribution fields. All students learn the basics of workplace safety and health, as well as effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Depending on the chosen degree option, students prepare to work in building maintenance, industrial maintenance, precision machining, and product distribution fields. Faculty with direct experience in the industry teach the courses. A major strength of the program is the strong hands-on approach to learning. Students in the Academy will be part of the Dream It! Do It! program and will participate in a spring quarter internship with an area manufacturer. Seniors preferred **Must be 17 years of age before enrollment into spring internship. 7 TRADE CAREERS NEW! Pre-Apprenticeship Plumbing - South Omaha Campus, 27th & Q Not just in Omaha, but around the country the demand for licensed Journeyman Plumbers is nearing an alltime high. Many experienced plumbers, like your parent or grandparent, are retiring in the next 5-10 years. As a stepping stone into an apprenticeship program, MCC developed the Pre-Apprenticeship Plumbing Academy for you to gain basic knowledge of the plumbing industry. The Academy introduces you to the history of the plumbing trade, tools and materials, applicable math skills, and residential and commercial plumbing. Completing the academy is your important first step down the path leading to becoming an Apprentice plumber then Journeyman plumber. Other career opportunities may include sales, entry level estimator, general contractor or project manager. Our academy helps you earn beginning classroom credit required by the City of Omaha for taking the Journeyman Plumber exam. Requirements include completing a 5 year Apprenticeship program registered with the city, which includes classroom training and a minimum of 7,000 hours on the job training. At the completion of the Academy, students can apply to enter into a paid internship with a Signatory Plumber in order to gain the necessary field experience. There are only three Apprenticeship Programs that exist in the City of Omaha. The City of Omaha and surrounding communities continue to grow and we are on the brink of another large building boom. Welding Technology - Fort Omaha Campus 30th and Fort, 1st year students. - South Omaha Campus, 27th & Q 2 nd year students. This program provides basic to advanced training in the major welding processes. Students completing the program are exposed to standard welding procedures used in construction and industry, as well as established safety standards and measures. A fabrication project requires students to use their welding skills, including the reading of welding blueprints.
