3 Citroën UK Teletrac Fleet Director is a crucial added value service for Citroen. Citroën UK. Award-winning Fleet Director Telematics Package Trafficmaster s Smartnav system not only provides in-depth navigation, it also plans the route to avoid traffic congestion. It does this using live traffic information gathered from Trafficmaster s unique network of 5,000 roadside cameras, and real-time road speeds, to calculate the quickest route to the required destination. If congestion occurs after the vehicle has started on the journey, Smartnav will instantaneously work out all the viable alternatives and calculate the route with the shortest journey time. The driver can then select the new route with one touch of the screen Last year, this facility saved Citroën LCV drivers the equivalent of more than 6,500 working days while the latest installations also gain an emergency call icon on the touch screen which allows the driver to summons assistance after an accident, a medical emergency or a breakdown. Pat Gallagher adds: The Teletrac telematics package is worth some 2,000 per year, per vehicle in terms of increased productivity and lower running costs. The company recognised a growing need amongst certain risk groups (e.g. young drivers), for a more sophisticated approach to calculating risk and paying for insurance, to enable the company to offer motor insurance tailored to individual customers. To make this possible, the company needed an in-vehicle system that could accurately monitor vehicle usage for road type and time of day, supported by a robust process for secure transmission and retention of this data. Norwich Union asked Trafficmaster to adapt its existing intelligent vehicle technology for the new insurance product. The Trafficmaster intelligent vehicle system uses GPS technology to pinpoint the vehicle and provides data to Trafficmaster via GPRS over the O2 network. From this data, individual customer bills are generated listing their journeys and calculating their total premium. Vehicle & Trailer Tracking with Fleet Director Hargreaves previous experience with vehicle tracking, led them to want to compare Fleet Director with Scania and Mercedes in built systems, that were monitored via the engine management systems of both manufacturers. This was challenging, as Teletrac were supplying data based on GPS movement, as opposed to data from engine management systems. The Teletrac team and Jay Laverick, Hargreaves fuel champion and dangerous goods advisor, worked tirelessly to ensure the data matched with the two vehicle manufacturers. Hargreaves are satisfied the data Teletrac is providing is both accurate and useful, to the point whereby Jay Laverick kindly reviewed Teletrac on Trustpilot under the banner Top of the tree in GPS and tracking and went on to say Great bunch of guys, they have really mucked in with issues we had, to make the system work for our very individual business. Prompt responses from all the right people, Hargreaves and Teletrac have built a very strong working relationship over the last 12 months.
