Throughout the year, campus tours take place Monday through Friday, at 10 a.m. on the Oakland campus and 1:30 p.m. on the San Francisco campus. 2 PREPARING TO TRANSFER As you prepare to transfer to CCA, we recommend that you speak with one of our Enrollment Services counselors (cca.edu/admissions/counselors). Planning well ahead will enable you to maximize your transferable units and complete the courses that will best prepare you for entry into CCA. Our staff will work with you to help you navigate the transfer process. CCA does not have specific transfer course requirements, but we do recommend that you take a balanced load of beginning-level academic and studio courses, such as English Composition, Introduction to Art History, Modern Art History, Beginning Drawing, 2D Design, 3D Design or Sculpture, and Introduction to Digital Media and Film. Step 1: Familiarize yourself with your academic standing. Take some time to review your transcripts from the colleges you have attended. CCA will consider both your individual courses and your cumulative grade point average (GPA) when reviewing your application. (CCA is on the semester system and will calculate the GPA as semester units.) Step 2: Assess your transfer credits. California community college students can use the ASSIST website (assist.org) in conjunction with CCA s CSU Breadth Chart or Inter-segmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) (cca.edu/admissions/undergrad/credit) for humanities and sciences course equivalencies. We also have articulation agreements with several community colleges across the country (cca.edu/admissions/undergrad/articulation). Step 3: Investigate your major. CCA offers 21 undergraduate programs in the areas of art, architecture, design, and writing. Visit cca.edu/academics/programs to read about each major, its curriculum, and its faculty, and to view student work from the program. The program web pages will be an invaluable resource as you plan your transfer and decide which major best fits your educational goals. Step 4: Apply to CCA. February 1 is the application deadline for students entering in the fall who wish to be considered for scholarships. March 1 is the application deadline for all other students entering in the fall. October 1 is the application deadline for students entering in the spring. 4 FINANCIAL AID CCA will partner with you and your family to ensure that you achieve your goals. Our financial aid program is designed to help make CCA more affordable, so all students can reach their creative potential. In the college awarded more than $19 million in college-funded scholarships and more than $34 million in combined scholarships, grants, loans, and employment. More than 78 percent of CCA s students receive college-funded merit and need-based scholarships. FACULTY HONORS AWARD This competition is open to all direct college-transfer applicants who are seeking their first bachelor s degree and plan to begin their studies at CCA in the fall semester. These renewable awards, which amount up to $10,000 annually, are based on a student s academic achievement and creative ability. To be considered, you must complete all admissions application requirements by February 1. There is no separate scholarship application. DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP Every fall, diversity scholarships are offered to qualified entering transfer students who demonstrate financial need and bring diverse experiences, ideas, and creative work to the CCA community. Students from educationally disadvantaged families who have demonstrated academic and artistic achievement, students who have demonstrated leadership in service to their communities, and students whose work focuses on social or cultural issues will be considered for these awards. In combination with other CCA scholarships and federal and state grants, total amounts may equal the cost of tuition. To be considered, you must complete all admission and financial aid requirements as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1. 5 DETERMINING TRANSFER CREDIT Following an offer of admission, CCA will make available to you online an evaluation of your transfer credits. You must submit all official transcripts from other schools you have attended. Academic credits from regionally accredited institutions are usually transferable to CCA if you received a grade of C or better, and if they fulfill requirements for the BA, BFA, or BArch. Transfer credit for studio courses is based on a portfolio review and corresponding transferable coursework. If you have 12 units of studio coursework, you may be waived from CCA s core studio requirements (Drawing 1, 2D, 3D, 4D). If CCA has an established studio transfer articulation agreement with your school, the portfolio review may be waived for specific courses. Studio units that do not meet CCA studio requirements may serve as studio elective units. For more information about transfer credits see cca.edu/admissions/undergrad/credit. PURSUING A SECOND DEGREE CCA welcomes applicants who already have a bachelor s degree. Seeking a second undergraduate degree affords the opportunity to pursue an arts-focused education while using previous college work to receive transfer credit. BFA, BA, and BArch applicants who already have a bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university will receive transfer credit for all of the CCA humanities and sciences requirements except for the 15 to 18 units of visual studies, and (if applicable) math and physics for architecture. These are considered on a course-by-course basis.
