Case Western Reserve University Case Western Reserve University is excited about the launch of a number of new programs for undergraduate students. The Weatherhead School of Management has added concentrations in innovation and entrepreneurship, international business, organizational leadership, and supply chain management to the undergraduate business management degree. Students interested in working with big data now have the option to pursue an undergraduate major or minor in data science offered by the Case School of Engineering. The university's College of Arts and Sciences plans to launch a new interdisciplinary major in origins sciences. This program is the first of its kind in the country. Cleveland Institute of Art - Cleveland Institute of Art opened its gleaming, new George Gund Building, featuring light-filled studios, computer labs ideal for animators and designers, smart classrooms, exhibition galleries, and a new movie theater. The new building is adjoined by a soaring, sunlit atrium to a renovated 100-year-old factory. For the first time in almost 40 years, students from all 15 majors learn side-byside in this two-building complex. Three highly accomplished professors joined the faculty: an illustrator with experience storyboarding for feature films; a ceramicist with a background in ceramic product design; and a well-published creative writing professor. Cedarville University - Next spring Cedarville University will award the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree to 50 students in its inaugural class. Most of these students entered Cedarville as freshmen in Fall 2009 with preferred admission to the school of pharmacy eliminating the need to compete for a spot in the final four years of professional-level education. The addition of the pharmacy program contributed to a surge of science students at Cedarville. In response, the university just completed a two-year, $5 million renovation and 25,000 square foot expansion of its biology and chemistry laboratories. 2 University of Dayton - Emerson Climate Technologies has announced plans to build and support an innovation center at the University of Dayton to advance research and education for the global heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry. The center, the result of a partnership between Emerson Climate Technologies and the University of Dayton, will be a one-of-a-kind research and training hub where Emerson experts, HVACR industry leaders and University faculty and students can come together to focus on the technology and best practices that will drive the future of the HVACR industry. Defiance College Defiance College offers the ASD Affinity Program, providing opportunities for college students on the autism spectrum to have a fulfilling experience in a traditional college setting. The ASD Affinity Program implements a comprehensive range of services offering academic, social and residential support for qualifying students to enable them to adjust to and succeed in a college environment. Defiance College is uniquely suited to develop this program, with its size, support of the community, the already established Hench Autism Studies Program, and a welcoming and nurturing environment for all who wish to earn their college education. Denison University - Denison University has announced that an annual $30,000 merit-based scholarship is available for Ohio students. The John W. Alford Ohio Service Scholarship is designed to recognize Ohio students who have demonstrated academic success as well as significant accomplishments in community service. The scholarship is valued at $30,000 a year and is renewable for $120,000 over 4 years. In addition, scholarship recipients will be eligible for housing in the Morrow Service Learning House, placement with a local community service organization, and will be given preferential enrollment in the Denison Service Orientation program in Washington, D.C., for incoming first-year students. University of Findlay - In March, The University of Findlay entered into a unique higher education partnership, teaming with the Cleveland Browns to provide valuable internships and other opportunities for learning about the business facets of professional sports. The University of Findlay & Cleveland Browns Partnership for Student Success, which is academically focused, established a new knowledge transfer paradigm that primes highly-skilled graduates to excel in the sports industry and provides the Browns with superior student employees. From purchasing to publicity, the partnership is greatly enhancing the Browns business efforts while providing valuable opportunities for UF students. Franciscan University of Steubenville - The Austrian Program Celebrates 25 Years In fall 1991, Franciscan University of Steubenville launched its Austrian Study Abroad Program in Gaming, Austria. Since then over 7,000 students have made their home in a 14thcentury Carthusian monastery, Kartause Maria Thron Iesu ( Monastery of Our Lady, Throne of Jesus ), in the foothills of the Austrian Alps. From there, they travel to Rome, Assisi, Paris, Lourdes, Geneva, Madrid any of the historic sites and Catholic shrines of Europe. Program alumni describe it as the most memorable of my college life, awesome, and truly blessed certainly a unique opportunity to experience Catholic culture and history. Franklin University - For over 110 years, Franklin University has built its reputation on making quality education accessible and affordable for ambitious learners, who balance many priorities. This fall, the University will launch a new undergraduate major in Logistics Management. The major, available 100% online, allows students to apply technical credits earned as part of an associate s degree toward the bachelor s saving them time and money. Also new this year is mytools, an online resource to better serve the University s applicants. Through mytools, applicants can track the status of their admission application and financial aid giving them up-to-date information on their schedule. Good Samaritan College of Nursing & Health Science - The Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science has implemented a Peer Mentoring Program for incoming students. Students will be connected with an upper class student mentor during the New Student Orientation. Mentors will be available to answer questions and provide student guidance as new students navigate their new college experience. Heidelberg University This past spring, Heidelberg rolled out an initiative to help make a master s degree more affordable for all students. The new Heidelberg +1 program allows any student, who completes a bachelor s degree (in any major) at Heidelberg in four years with at least a 3.0 GPA, to stay one more year and earn a master of business administration tuition-free. Business skills can add value to any major to help students stand out and become more marketable in their own career path. 4 years of undergraduate education plus 1 year of business preparation equals a great value. Hiram College Hiram Connect will explicitly help students link classroom learning, experiential learning, and reflective learning so that they can develop a more comprehensive understanding of specific issues, challenges, and opportunities. More specifically, it will require students to undertake an internship, research project, or study away opportunity so that that they can test, confirm, and challenge what they have learned in the classroom, regardless of the field of study. John Carroll University - John Carroll welcomes our new students in fall 2015 as the first to follow our re-designed core curriculum. Our integrated curriculum combines content across different subjects, where students will focus on issues such as the global community, the natural world, and the human experience. The curriculum will develop competencies in written and oral expression, quantitative analysis, and ethical decision making. These skills are furthered developed within each major, and a capstone experience is now required of all students. Kenyon College - Kenyon College, located in Gambier, Ohio, has received a grant from the Mellon Foundation to establish a Community Engagement Center in the nearby town of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Working in partnership with the Ariel Foundation of Mt. Vernon, the College is restoring a historic building in the downtown area, which will serve as the center of activity between the college and the community. The center will formalize teaching practices in experiential learning and field research, strengthen educational outreach,
3 and promote civic engagement across campus. Kenyon students have a long tradition of engaging with the area surrounding the college. Kettering College Kettering College is beginning its first doctoral program in occupational therapy (OTD) in fall of A direct admissions process has been put into place for advanced high school seniors to secure a spot in the OTD program. A new 3-year bachelor degree in respiratory care was also added in the fall of The College welcomed two new Deans for Academic Affairs Ruth Agrey, PhD, and Loren Agrey, PhD; and in May, the physician assistant program celebrated its 40th graduating class. Kettering College also received the Best Value School award for the second consecutive year. Lake Erie College - Lake Erie College continues to expand on its exceptional opportunities and outcomes. The College now offers a three-year Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, allowing students to directly pursue advanced medical degrees through partnerships with the University of Findlay and with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. LEC also now offers a 3+3 Joint Bachelor s/law Accelerated Degree Program with Cleveland State University s Cleveland- Marshall College of Law. Internally, six seats are held in each cohort of the LEC Physician Assistant Program for qualified LEC students. Finally, a multi-million dollar renovation of the College s James F. Lincoln Library began in Lourdes University Lourdes University offers two new facilities for students. The Athletic Complex is the new home of Gray Wolves men s and women s lacrosse and soccer teams. Lourdes broke ground for the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center in September The center will open in fall Facility features include cardio, yoga, free weight, aerobics and spinning rooms, locker rooms and classrooms. The athletic components of the recreation center include indoor competition-level basketball and volleyball courts, home and visiting locker rooms, a training room, Gray Wolves suite, ticket office, concession area, two-story atrium with mezzanine level, a spirit wall, and coaches offices. Malone University - A Christian university located on 96 rolling acres in Canton offering new majors: Criminal Justice, Marketing, Biochemistry, Graphic Design, Fine Arts/Crafts, Art History, and a partnership program in Engineering/Math. Malone is now a member of The Common Application. The Malone Pioneers continue as members of the NCAA Division II. Nationally, Malone ranked in the top 4% for career outcomes and top 50 (#30) most affordable Christian colleges. Marietta College - Marietta s PioPitch program launched in March to offer students an opportunity to engage with aspiring entrepreneurs and learn about the challenges involved in turning ideas into action. The unique college-wide program is used as a springboard for student organized initiatives and as a think tank to provide business owners constructive feedback. Meanwhile, a recent study from the Brookings Institution suggests that Marietta College graduates can expect an average earning increase of 39%; ranking 13th nationally among all institutions. The average alumni made $93,100 per year at mid-career, compared to a projected salary of $62,795 had they attended another institution. Mercy College of Ohio - Mercy College of Ohio and Logan University have a unique 3+3 program for students interested in the field of chiropractic medicine. Students complete three years of required undergraduate studies at Mercy College and complete the fourth year of undergraduate studies while enrolled in Logan s Doctor of Chiropractic Program. Students at Mercy College major in Biology and earn 92 credits in three years and attend Logan University to complete 28 credit hours. At the end of the fourth year, the students graduate from Mercy College with their Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with earned hours toward their Doctor of Chiropractic. Mount Carmel College of Nursing - Mount Carmel College of Nursing is pleased to announce the onboarding of its new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program beginning this fall. Mount St. Joseph University - It is hard to believe we became a university a year ago, and we are happy to report a few exciting things: Mount St. Joseph University has been approved to develop a Physician Assistant Program with initial enrollment proposed for The approval was granted by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. We are also proud to announce our Doctor of Physical Therapy program was granted another 10 year reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE). University of Mount Union - The University celebrated the opening of its state-of-the-art Giese Center for the Performing Arts in January The Center includes a new lobby, proscenium theatre, black box theatre, green room, scene shop, costume shop, dressing rooms, art gallery and choral room, as well as a renovated band room. Total cost for the project is estimated at $13 million. To celebrate the rich history of the arts at Mount Union, the University has deemed the 2015 calendar year the Year of the Arts with a number of special performances, including nationally known groups, taking place in the new facility. Mount Vernon Nazarene University - In Spring 2015, MVNU competed in its inaugural men s and women s track and field season with 28 student athletes and the goal of enrolling 60 student athletes in the next five years. MVNU is an NAIA Division 2 college, which allows athletic scholarships and competes in the highly-competitive Crossroads League. For more information, visit Muskingum University Muskingum University s newly constructed Roberta A. Smith University Library will open in the fall of This 40,000 square foot structure will offer our students a spacious light-filled commons area, a two story glass-walled colloquium center featuring a large fireplace and projection wall, as well as large and small gathering spaces throughout. An expansive and open Grand Staircase connects the building s levels. The three floors of the new library will provide general, special and reference library collections, 7 classrooms, 3 reading rooms, library information hubs, study spaces, interactive projections technology rooms, a café and student lounge areas.
4 University of Northwestern Ohio - The University of Northwestern Ohio is proud to announce a new Robotics and Automation Associate Degree within the College of Applied Technologies. The Robotics and Automation Degree, starting this winter, consists of 70% hands-on coursework and takes 21 months to complete. UNOH graduates will enter the workforce ready to apply their skills customizing and installing the robots, or diagnosing and quickly solving problems to maintain production flow. Core classes emphasize mechanical and electrical automation, fluid power, programmable logic controllers, robotics integration and the work cell. The Robotics and Automation associate s degree joins the 60 programs of study available at UNOH. Notre Dame College - Notre Dame College is launching the Enterprise Development Center EDC@NDC in September, This on-campus internship program will provide paid internships and experiential learning opportunities needed to position NDC students for future career success. EDC@NDC will also provide critical support local startups need to succeed, while serving as an incubator for the generation of student-generated commercial and social enterprise ideas. The EDC@NDC will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students to help in the starting and sustaining of new ventures and in the process develop the 21st century skills students need to make a successful and seamless transition from college to career. Oberlin College & Conservatory Oberlin College s Creativity & Leadership Program is a multi-disciplinary effort designed to encourage students to put their innovative ideas into practice. Students design and launch new ventures to tackle the questions, challenges, and opportunities of the 21st century. Academic courses, funding for project development, guest lectures, and experiential learning opportunities are offered. Recently funded projects include Kenya Reads (a literacy initiative), OUTHERE Productions (3D production company), Kantara Crafts (fair trade business in Morocco), Skritter (computer based learning Chinese and Japanese vocabulary), LumenEd (solar powered projectors to enhance learning in remote Indian classrooms), and Oscillator Project: Women in Experimental Music. Ohio Christian University Ohio Christian University is committed to preparing world-impacting servant leaders through a rigorous academic program and a pledge to ensuring student success at every step of the college experience. Ohio Dominican University - Ohio Dominican University now offers in-demand majors in Software Engineering and Insurance & Risk Management. These new programs help students prepare for careers in rapidly expanding industries throughout Ohio. ODU is also partnering with Ohio University s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine to offer the Med School Early Acceptance Program, which gives high-achieving high school students an opportunity to be automatically accepted into med school after completing their undergraduate requirements at ODU. ODU introduced a similar early acceptance program into its Physician Assistant Studies master s program. ODU also offers a Pre-Nursing program as well as an associate degree in Health Science. Ohio Northern University - Ohio Northern University has introduced two interdisciplinary endeavors to prepare undergraduates for law school. The first is a new PPE (philosophy, politics and economics) program. For potential law students, these three component disciplines each play an important role in understanding the legal system, albeit from different perspectives. In fact, pursuing a PPE degree is probably the best law school preparation a student can receive. ONU will introduce its new 3+3 Law Program in fall This 3+3 program will allow certain ONU students to complete both a bachelor s degree and a law degree in six years, rather than seven. Ohio Wesleyan University - Thanks to an anonymous $8 million gift, Merrick Hall is being transformed into the home of Ohio Wesleyan s OWU Connection curricular initiative, an innovative curricular program that helps students connect academic theory with real-world practice in a global context. The university received an additional $8 million gift to support the transformation of the former Pfeiffer Natatorium into a state-of-the-art fitness center which opened in August. Otterbein University One year after successfully introducing its Systems Engineering program, Otterbein University announces two new academic programs, Business Analytics and Criminology. Business analytics focuses on developing new insights and understanding of performance based on data and statistical methods and has been identified as one of the fastest growing careers in business today. Otterbein is also proud to announce that it added varsity wrestling as an NCAA III sport and that it will be recruiting its first class of wrestlers for Fall University of Rio Grande - Both the Rio Grande Community College Board and the University of Rio Grande Board have approved the Capital Priorities Proposal and have authorized the use of $2.6 million for campus-wide improvements. The Board approved Capital Priorities Proposal in three categories: academia, student experience, and structural/aesthetic. The 10 project areas of focus consist of Allied Health Lab Enhancement, Welding Program Expansion, Classroom Technology, Residence Halls, Lyne Center, Track and Field Facilities, Campus Grounds Beautification, Kidd Math & Science Bridge Repair, Rhodes Hall Improvements, and Berry Fine & Performing Arts Center Atrium. Tiffin University - Tiffin University has welcomed its 5 th President, Dr. Curtis Charles. TU also made significant improvements to our existing state of the art science laboratory to support our growing demand for chemistry and biology courses in the Bachelor of Science degree programs. New academic programs include: Digital Innovation and Design, Criminalistics, and Sports and Recreation Management with a focus in Recreation and Fitness Management. Union Institute & University Union Institute & University is pleased to announce that Ms. Kimbrea Browning has accepted the position of Vice President, Enrollment, effective July 20, Kimbrea replaces Jon Mays who is
5 retiring after five years of service to Union. Kimbrea brings more than 10 years of experience in admissions and student services, most recently in her position as senior director of Admissions at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Prior to her work with the Art Institute, she worked with the University of Phoenix as a director of enrollment for several years at several different campuses. Management, public relations and training are just a few of the areas students can pursue Wittenberg University - Committed to expanding opportunities for students, Wittenberg has introduced majors in exercise science, marketing, management, entrepreneurship and finance, as well as an innovative joint Nursing Pathway program with Clark State Community College. Wittenberg has joined with Miami University to allow highly qualified Wittenberg students to pursue both their bachelor s and master s degrees in a combined program over five years. Men s volleyball will become Wittenberg s 24 th varsity sport in International Baccalaureate diploma holders are now eligible to enter Wittenberg with sophomore status and receive additional benefits. The College of Wooster - In the largest-ever survey of college graduates, some 30,000 respondents in all, Gallup found that having a mentor in college and working on a longterm project are two of the most powerful factors linked to having "great jobs and great lives" after graduation. Commenting on those results, Brandon Busteed, executive director of Gallup Education, said, "The value that The College of Wooster has placed on mentoring, on applied learning, on project based learning, all those things, according to our research at least, are exactly what should be happening." Xavier University - Xavier s newest addition, the School for Arts and Innovation, offers majors such as Human-Centered Making, as well as a minor in Innovation Engineering. This new school allows students to apply their academic experience to real-world projects in conjunction with Xavier s brand new Center for Innovation. The Center for Innovation is designed to attract local entrepreneurs, innovators and researchers, and serves as a local innovation hub bringing together students from different academic disciplines, allowing them the opportunity to collaborate.
