4 BENEFITS OF UT S COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS PROGRAM There is no charge to the student for the course or instructional materials. College Credit Plus courses transfer as college credit on a 4.0 grade scale and can count toward a bachelor s degree while being recorded on a high school transcript on an AP or honors weighted grade scale. Each student is assigned a success coach who will help the student transition to post-secondary education, assist with selection and registration, and be there as a resource to answer questions and resolve issues. All courses are taken with UT undergraduate students. All College Credit Plus students are considered UT students and have access to many benefits and student support services. Courses integrate virtual labs, simulation center visits and other special resources only UT can offer. Students may be able to utilize tablets and other devices to access ebooks, apps and high-quality images, videos and simulations for some courses. Course Delivery Options UT S COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS COURSES CAN BE TAKEN IN A NUMBER OF WAYS, INCLUDING ON CAMPUS, ENTIRELY ONLINE OR A BLEND OF BOTH (SOME ONLINE AND SOME FACE TO FACE). All courses meet the highest education standards and are designed to be technologically advanced and engaging. Online courses are built with our nationally recognized instruction design team, who work with faculty members to ensure the classes meet learning objectives and are easy to access and use.
5 Course Types WHAT KIND OF LEARNER ARE YOU? UT offers several modality options in a number of general education courses that are Ohio Transfer Module (OTM) compliant. However, our entire University course catalog is available to students in the In-person, on-campus modality if published prerequisites are met. Please check to see which of these will meet the OTM requirements. BLENDED: In this kind of class also known as a flipped classroom students complete much of their reading and learning using online technology, such as watching videos and posting on the class message board. There is a set time to meet in-person on campus, which is focused on discussions and group projects. The advantage of this type of class is that it provides the best of both worlds; the convenience of online learning and the value of personal interaction and the campus experience. This is also where some fun activities can come in, such as using the scientific labs on campus or taking a field trip to the Toledo Museum of Art or the Toledo Zoo. 100 PERCENT ONLINE SYNCHRONOUS: In these types of courses, students go online to read content or complete assignments at their convenience. Then, the class meets for learning and discussions via live video presentations that allow the students and faculty to interact from different locations as if they were in the same room. These class meetings will take place at a specific time on a specific day each week. Online activities will include videos and reading assignments, threaded discussions, written assignments and group projects. 100 PERCENT ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS: This course offering means students complete all of their work in an online environment; there is no in-person classroom time. Students complete most of their course content and assignments on their own time; sometimes, a live chat may be held. IN-PERSON, ON-CAMPUS: In this type of course, students attend class on UT s campus. They participate in lectures, class discussions, assignments and tests in the classroom.
6 Multiple Courses in Multiple Modalities Courses available in multiple modalities as described on the previous page include: English Composition; College Algebra; Survey of Biology; Survey of Astronomy; World Regional Geography; American National Government; Sociology I; Business Principles and Computer Applications; Public Speaking; Art History and Visual Literacy; American Literature; Nutrition and Healthy Living; Principles of Psychology; and Statistics. Note: Many other courses are available in a traditional classroom setting, or 100% online. Please check the course catalog online (utoledo.edu/offices/registrar/sch_classes.html) for information. Get the same benefits that UT students receive UT COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS PROGRAM STUDENTS RECEIVE MANY OF THE SAME BENEFITS AS A FULL-TIME STUDENT AT UT. Each student is assigned a success coach who will help the student transition to postsecondary education, assist with selection and registration, and be there as a resource to answer questions and resolve issues. A Rocket ID card will give students free admission to UT home athletic events and discounted prices for family members. It also gives students access to the Student Recreation Center and UT student discounts from local businesses. Students can access UT s Learning Enhancement and Writing Centers for academic coaching and writing assistance, as well as the Counseling Center, Career Services, and complete UT library network.
7 Be honored for your hard work Then, when you graduate from high school, consider applying for UT s Jesup Scott Honors College. The college, named to honor UT s founder, is one of the oldest honors programs at a state university in the country. It was re-launched in 2013 and is highly selective. The college has a unique blend of admission requirements that not only take into account academic performance, but also activities that demonstrate a high level of motivation and achievement. The honors college is a pioneer in experiential learning for its students, which means internships, co-ops, research, service learning, study abroad and more. Honors students also are eligible for accelerated three-year degree programs, preferred admission to advanced degree options and on-campus honors housing.
