3 Economy-Trade For Idaho, Japan is an important export market. In 2012, Canada, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, China, Japan were top 6 destinations. 5 Micron Technology and Hewlett Packard being in Boise, some Japanese electronic companies set up business in the area. 4 Japanese companies in Idaho (2012) Micron Technology acquired Elpida Memory of Japan in Micron Technology is 2 nd largest company after Samsung of Korea. Idaho National Laboratory, located in Idaho Falls, is important for Japan- U.S. nuclear energy cooperation.

6 Cultural Exchange 2 Sister-city relationships between Idaho and Japan. Japanese language education: Boise State University, Idaho State University, University of Idaho. Students studying Japanese in the state: 693. There are several student exchange programs as well. Japan-Idaho Sister Cities Japan and Idaho University Exchange Programs Tokai-Mura, Ibaraki and Idaho Falls July 3, 1981 Since 1981, in odd numbered years Tokai-Mura students visit Idaho, and in even numbered years Idaho students visit Tokai-Mura. To celeblate the sister city anniversary, Idaho Falls Friendship Garden was opened in Idaho Falls City. Iwamizawa, Hokkaido and Pocatello May 20, 1985 Every summer, middle and high school students in Iwamizawa and Pocatello visit other city and stay with host family. Adults visit each city in every 5 year. In 2009 Kizuna Japanese Garden was opened in front of Pocatello Airport. University of Idaho Nagasaki Gaikokugo Univ., Otemae College Idaho State University Kansai Gaikokugo Univ., Mejiro Univ. Boise State University Asia Univ., Hosei Univ., Mukogawa Womens Univ.

7 Consular Office of Japan and Idaho organizations co-sponsor Japan Festival in Boise every year since In 2013, various Japanese cultural performances, such as Wadaiko, Judo, Koto, Ikebana, Japanese Calligraphy, were demonstrated at the Hide Park Street Fair in Boise. Wadaiko / Judo Performances Annual Japan Festival in Idaho Koto / Ikebana Workshop 18 th Japanese Speech Contest was held at Boise State University in April 2014.

Boise Japanese residents in 2008 established the Idaho Japanese Association. IJA has been actively arranging Japan-related events, including those co-sponsored with the Consular Office of Japan.
