6 The Evidian Vision In today's fast-paced industry, telecom and IT increasingly require step-forward service management solutions that provide active support for business agility, as well as evolving IT challenges and technologies. While telecom and IT services are evolving towards an integrated services approach across multiple technologies, service management solutions need to offer a high degree of automation and the ability to manage multi-dimensional dependencies and aggregation. Evidian delivers OpenMaster, a service management software suite that helps service providers achieve service assurance efficiencies and contain operational and capital expenditures. OpenMaster provides service management intelligence for IT and telecom service assurance. OpenMaster s high degree of automation makes possible a real-time service management that senses problems and QoS threats faster and more proactively. With OpenMaster, operators can respond to threats accurately, while significantly minimizing manual operations, thereby reducing slack time for service restoration. This results in improved service availability for the benefit of business effectiveness. 7 OpenMaster for Telecom by Evidian Evidian s service management software suite delivers a complete set of key functionalities in the service assurance field: A service management framework that leverages industry standards, thus resulting in a multi-technology and multi-vendor resource management platform. Knowledge-based intelligence that analyzes, correlates, reduces, automates problem resolution and impact analysis. Business intelligence software suite that leverages business intelligence technologies to deliver multi-criteria performance and service availability analysis, service dashboard reporting and trend analysis. Service Management Framework The service management framework of OpenMaster includes a publish-and-subscribe middleware that offers high flexibility and scalability management infrastructure for telcos, data networks, systems and applications management. The OpenMaster framework performs mediation, alarm end event collection, performance data collection and remote action operations for all managed resources. Protocol support Discovery OpenMaster leverages the existing management facilities of telecom and IP resources, including native support of industry standards (SNMP V1/V2/V3, 3GPP, WBEM/CIM, etc.) In addition, OpenMaster includes the OpenAgent technology and a library of configurable local agents for various systems and business-critical applications. OpenMaster includes an automated discovery process that explores the physical and logical components of the network, applications and IT infrastructure systems. It consolidates a topology database that stores information about relationships and interdependences, with grouping and classification by organization and business services. This allows comprehensive views and real-time monitoring, from aggregated services down to supporting network and system resources. With extensive protocol support and efficient network discovery, OpenMaster manages the whole telecom and IT infrastructure comprehensively and uniformly. User interface Alarm management OpenMaster includes a web-based presentation layer that gives uniform and userfriendly views of managed resources and services through a single management console. A highly configurable map-based monitoring environment makes it possible to design an efficient tool enabling operators to quickly pinpoint problems. Maps can include data from OpenMaster, but also from other sources such as SQL databases. Alarm Center is a powerful application that displays a list of alarms currently active on the network and adds new alarms to the list as they occur. Alarms are displayed using the X.733 recommendation and formalism, such as alarm type, error/failure information, source object, date/time and alarm severity. The viewable attributes and available menu options are fully configurable, and can be set up on a per-user profile basis. The alarm view supports full searching, filtering and sorting. 39 A2 16LR Rev03 7
8 As with the map view, the alarm severity is highlighted using a color scheme. Within an alarm view, users perform alarm-handling operations, such as acknowledge, terminate manually, change degree of urgency, ignore The service management infrastructure includes built-in security and allows rolebased management, load balancing and automatic fail-over for 24x7 availability. Builtin security ensures strong authentication and authorization of users that can access the system. Knowledge-based Correlation OpenMaster leverages rule-based technology to capture dependency, availability, redundancy, switchover and hierarchical status information with respect to the services provided by a multi-vendor network and multi-technology infrastructure. OpenMaster s rule-based technology makes it possible to build comprehensive and human-readable correlation scenarios that tie in with the real-time, event-driven management approach and complex resource and service dependencies. With this approach, OpenMaster completely addresses all aspects of alarm correlation: Alarm reduction, such as suppression of transient events, suppression of redundant events and filtering of irrelevant alarms. In case of multiple alarms, the system performs alarm correlation and identifies the initial alarm. Alarm adjustment that helps efficient problem understanding and rapid analysis. Alarm escalation, to raise the severity of an outstanding problem and change the priority of its resolution. OpenMaster leverages the network and service description topology resulting from the automatic discovery process, or a third-party resource inventory database, to deliver accurate root cause analysis and service impact analysis. Customer services are monitored in real time, to correct incidents that affect the service, such as performance degradation. OpenMaster brings in an innovative and flexible approach to real-time monitoring of SLA thresholds and assuring service availability compliance with business objectives, including notification of business alerts as key quality indicators near threshold violation. OpenMaster is powered by an active and dynamic operation engine that puts automation at the heart of the service management solution. An event processor combined with a task manager orchestrates packages of alarm correlation rules. The results of alarm correlation may trigger maintenance operations on managed resources. This makes it possible to automatically perform remote test, check managed resources status, and create trouble tickets for incident management and CRM support. Thanks to its unique knowledge-based correlation solution, OpenMaster brings in effective operational benefits: increased productivity with reduced operational personnel, accelerated problem resolution, reduced costs and improved quality of service. OpenMaster is technology-neutral in nature and fits into all managed IT resources and communication infrastructures. 39 A2 16LR Rev03 8
9 Business Intelligence for Service Assurance OpenMaster introduces business intelligence to respond to the challenges of performance management and service quality reporting. Since the IT and communication infrastructure generates millions of basic performance measurements and alarms daily, this requires a unified reporting architecture that combines a number of data sources, aggregating information in a technology-neutral way. Service performance monitoring and service availability reporting make use of multidimensional data engine analysis to aggregate over time, over multiple layer infrastructure and services relationships. This approach allows the building of a business-service-availability dashboard, trend analysis and service-level performance reporting. OpenMaster uses best-of-breed technology based on BusinessObjects TM. Solution Builder Toolkits OpenMaster for Telecom Solution Builder is a comprehensive development environment that allows service integrators and customers to develop, customize and deploy new services and products efficiently and, most importantly, quickly. This function is built on a set of toolkits, including JMX, CORBA, Java and web-based technologies, which offer unparalleled user-friendliness. It also allows easy integration with third-party software. Solution Builder includes a development environment for designing graphical interfaces, extending the object data manager, personalizing correlation rules, developing new mediations, integrating or publishing data for other OSS applications. 39 A2 16LR Rev03 9
10 The Evidian Difference Evidian s OpenMaster service assurance suite was introduced in 1994, thus delivering to the telecom industry a comprehensive service management solution. Evidian has proven its expertise in IT resources management, including all operating systems (mainframes, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux and Windows servers), enterprise applications such as Oracle, SAP R/3, Lotus Notes and all enterprise data networks. For telecom service providers, Evidian has proven its expertise in WAN, broadband, wireless and IP services. These include: T-Mobile (mobile division of Deutsche Telekom) a management solution for Germany s GSM mobile network for Mobile & IP infrastructure and services. Orange France a management solution for fault, configuration and performance management of the multi-technology & multi-vendor mobile network environment. France Telecom a solution for fault management and availability of the national Wide Access Network, multi-technology and multi-vendor management. O2 Ireland a management solution for fault and performance management of the multi-technology, multi-vendor mobile network. Security management: Identity Management and Access Control. Evidian s enterprise and Internet security management solutions leverage a comprehensive access control policy for both web and legacy environments.
