2 AGRIPRENEURSHIP Entrepreneur is one who always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity. Entrepreneurs innovate and innovation is a specific instrument of entrepreneurship. It creates resource because there is no such thing as a resource until man finds a use for something and endows it with economic value.

3 Small Farms 87% of world small farms (less than 2 ha) in Asia-Pacific region. India accounts for more than > 100 million small farms. Small farms constitutes 87 % of the total farming sector in India. They contribute more than > 50% to total farm output.

5 Rapid economic growth, urbanization & globalization led to shifting dietary patterns.

6 Size of Market India consumes about $ 300 billion worth of food product annually. Indian spends 30% share of their wallet on food, which is growing approximately 7-8% annually. Apprx ¼ of the total Indian consumers spending on food is on tertiary value added processed products growing annually at 12-14%. Every Kg of poultry requires 2.7 kg of feed. Every Kg of beef requires 7 kg grains.

7 Size of Market Agricultural inputs: Warehousing, Logistics, Processing, Grading, Packaging, Food Retailing & Services Current size is apprx. $ 375 billion out of which $ 300 billion is food & rest includes agricultural inputs, animal feed & non-edible products. Expected to increase to more than $ 500 billion by 2020.

8 Potential A relatively stable demand scenario High degree of resilience, proven in recessionary times. Integration of global food value chain. Gradual Homogenization in consumption pattern. Growing consolidation.

12 Opportunities for Agri-Entrepreneurship In the live stock sector, India has 16% of cattle, 57% of buffalo, 17% of goats and 5 % of sheep population of the world. In terms of the real value added, the Indian agriculture sector ranks third, after China and the United States. The share of agriculture in the total value added to the economy, at around 25 per cent, is still quite high. This implies that agriculture is likely to remain a priority, both for policy makers as well as businesses.

13 Opportunities for Agri-Entrepreneurship Primary sector of our economy is Agriculture. It has backward and forward linkages with secondary & tertiary sector. Secondary sector involved in production, manufacturing, fabrication, construction etc. to facilitate operations of other two sectors. Tertiary sector provides infrastructural support to rest of the two sectors

14 Opportunities for Agri-Entrepreneurship 1. At Farm Level: Production of agriculture produce by making best use of the technology, resources and demandin the market 2. As Service Providers: These include the input procurement and distribution, hiring of implements and equipment like tractors, seed drills, sprayers, harvesters, threshers, dryers and technical services such as installation of irrigation facilities, weed control, plant protection,harvesting, threshing, transportation,storage,etc

Input Producers: There are many potential business opportunities viz. biofertilizers, bio-pesticides, vermi-compost, soil amendments, plants of different species of fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, root media for raising plants in pots, agricultural tools, irrigation accessories, production of cattle feed concentrate, 7/27/ plants in pots, agricultural tools, irrigation accessories, production of cattle feed concentrate, mineral mixture and complete feed. There are good opportunities to support sericulture, fishery and poultry. 4. Value Chain / Processing / Marketing: Smallscaleagriprocessingunits,post harvestetc
