1 THE BUSINESS STREET NEW CINEMA NETWORK ROME OCTOBER 28 th NOVEMBER 1 st 2010 WORKSHOP AND PANELS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28 th > am 4.30 pm Hotel Majestic Via Vittorio Veneto, 50 - Sala Verdi 1 st floor ANICA Instruments of Public and Private Support for the Cinema This year ANICA once again in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade organises a workshop for both Italian and international film-industry professionals, with the goal of taking an in-depth look at certain aspects of the increasingly complex universe of tax and financial instruments available in Italy to aid the film industry. The day begins with a concise presentation of the results of the study on the economic impact of the tax credit scheme (for domestic and foreign productions), coordinated by ANICA and carried out by the LUISS Business School, with contributions from experts on the Italian and international scenes. Two tightly focussed sessions follow on topics tied to the tax legislation expected to be renewed by the end of 2010: the first examines the effects in Italy of the new flow of international investments generated by the production tax credit, complete with an in-depth case history. The second highlights the instruments developed by a number of major banks that are starting to invest in the Italian film industry. Here too a case history will be presented on one of the banks most active in the sector. Here Italian, French, Spanish and German producers will meet at the 20 th edition of the CRC-Coproduction Meetings, run by Roma Lazio FilmCommission with the members of the CRC-Capital Regions for Cinema network: Commission du Film de l Ile-de-France, Comunidad de Madrid and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. A look at the challenges and opportunities for film journalism as traditional print outlets vie for space and attention with blogs, websites and new media. The aim is to investigate the changes taking place in the role of film journalism owing to the media revolution. Have the new media been a disaster for film journalism? When and how do critics really make a difference? Where is film journalism going in this digital era? Is a film's box office influenced in any way by film journalism? The conference will be held on October 29th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hotel Majestic, at via Vittorio Veneto 50. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30 th > 9.45 am 1.40 pm World Forum on Strategy and Finance for Cinema Business Model: the issues of S-3D production The 5 th edition of the World Forum on Strategy and Finance for Cinema will come back to the issues of film financing discussed five years ago, during the first edition, to update the debate about the new business models and address the issues of S-3D production and revenue management with the participation of major stakeholders of the film and audiovisual industry. The Forum will consist of two round tables, each of them focusing on funding opportunities and techniques, upstream (round table n.1) and downstream (round table n.2). Shooting Stars is a unique initiative that aims at providing a platform for Europe s most interesting emerging actors: each year, the 10 most promising talents Europe-wide are nominated by EFP-member organizations that promote European cinema and then a final selection of participants is made by a jury of film professionals. The awards ceremony is held at the Berlinale Palast during the Berlin Film Festival. To promote these young talents, every year EFP selects partners from among the most important festivals marks the first time the International Rome Film Festival will be collaborating with EFP to create an event for New Cinema Network, the festival section devoted to the cinema of tomorrow. Rising actors Michele Riondino, Pihla Viitala, and Zrinka Cvitesic will meet Festival audiences and professionals for a discussion with a selection of clips from the films that brought them to the world s attention and won them critical and popular acclaim. > pm 6.30 pm Hotel Flora Via Vittorio Veneto, 191 Sala Ailanto - Terrace TBS and NCN Industry Books - Pitching and B2B The 5 th edition enriches its programme with the NEW Market: Industry Books an event produced by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma with the support of the Province of Rome, the Ministry of Economic Development, ICE, Sviluppo Lazio, and with the collaboration of Associazione Calipso, AIE, ANICA and APT with the goal of building a bridge between publishers and film producers. Considering the ever-growing ties between the publishing and audiovisual industries, a fact backed by the large numbers of novels or literary works that have lately been made into film or TV products, we have decided to introduce participating producers to a selection of stories with a high potential for screen adaptation. October 31 st, 13 publishers will pitch pre-selected books in a short public presentation followed by one-to-one prescheduled meetings, modelled on the winning formula of the NCN co-production meetings. Antonio Monda, Professor of New York University, will moderate the pitching session.

Recognizing New Cinema Network as one of the three most important co-production markets in Europe, Eurimages has decided to award this prize to the best project presented during New Cinema Network The award, a cash prize of euros, has been created to encourage European coproduction from the initial stages of a project. The first Eurimages Co-Production Development Award was given to the project Wolf by Bogdan Mustata as part of the CineLink event (Sarajevo Film Festival 2010). The second Eurimages Co-Production Development Award will be announced in Rome during the New Cinema Network of the International Rome Film Festival on October 31 st at 7.00 pm at the Disaronno Contemporary Terrace in the Hotel Bernini Bristol. The third prize will be awarded to a project presented during the next edition of CineMart, the co-production market of Rotterdam Film Festival. Furthermore, as every year, the NCN Jury panel will assign the NCN Prize for the Best European Second Film Project, to be chosen among the 15 projects selected in collaboration with the European film promotion agencies for 2010 s edition. 5 > am 1.00 pm INCE The impact of dubbing on film distribution The meeting, organised by INCE Comunica on the occasion of The Fourth International Prize for Dubbing, wants to assess the impact of dubbing on film industry; on its artistic, cultural and -above all - commercial aspects. Stressing the commercial value of dubbing does not undervalue the cultural and artistic aspects of films, it reinforce them: dubbing allows a film or a tv series to multiply the possibility of reaching audiences that subtitling would never reach. In spite of this, there is still a lot of suspicion about what in effect is nothing more than a translation; a cultural operation carried out with absolute open-mindedness. We hope this meeting will help clear up misunderstandings and preconceived Ideas about dubbing. To this aim we have invited top representatives from the various fields that are involved in dubbing.
