JOB PURPOSE To ensure high quality education for all pupils in a designated class To carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Headteacher. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND KEY TASKS Planning, Teaching and Class Management Teach allocated pupils by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through: identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed setting tasks which challenge all pupils and ensure high levels of interest setting appropriate and demanding expectations setting individual pupils clear targets regularly that build on prior attainment identifying SEN or very able pupils identifying termly any pupils who are vulnerable and communicating them through the school system providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge carry out and make use of termly assessments to ensure coverage of programmes of study ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time maintaining discipline in accordance with the school s procedures and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework Use a variety of teaching methods to: match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary use effective questioning, listen carefully to pupils, give attention to errors and misconceptions select appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, I.C.T. and other sources ensuring pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught taking account of pupils' needs by providing structured learning opportunities which develop the areas of learning identified in national and local policies and particularly the foundations for literacy and numeracy encouraging pupils to think and talk about their learning, develop self control and independence, concentrate and persevere, and listen attentively using a variety of teaching strategies which involve planned adult intervention, first-hand experience and play and talk as a vehicle for learning Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching mark and monitor pupils' work and set targets for progress assess and record pupils' progress systematically using the school system and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise the level at which the pupil is achieving undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures 2
3 prepare and present informative reports and to parents both verbally and in written form Curriculum Development Have lead responsibility for a foundation subject or aspect of the school's work (when required) and develop plans which identify clear targets and success criteria for its development and / or maintenance participate in the Innovate Programme through joining working groups contribute to the whole school's planning activities Working Relationships achieve constructive working relationships with all staff. direct, organise and manage the work of support staff within the classroom ensuring their effective and efficient deployment liaise effectively with colleagues to ensure the successful transition of pupils through the school. build and maintain co-operative relationships with parents and carers. Participate in performance management through the setting of personal targets and monitoring of performance as set out in the Teachers Pay and Conditions. RESPONSIBILITIES The Team Leader will have a key role within the school to promote outstanding teaching and learning across their year group. This post is a middle management position within the school staffing structure. The post holder will have day to day responsibility for the teachers and teaching assistants within their year groups of responsibility. The focus of the work is teaching and learning and exercise of professional skills and judgment. Line Management Responsibility Ensure that performance management arrangements are effectively discharged for all teaching assistants. Monitor the effectiveness and impact of performance management arrangements for teaching assistants within the year groups. Act as a role model of good classroom practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies with them. Plan and implement strategies to improve teaching where needs are identified. Monitor and evaluate the planning of other teachers, providing constructive and developmental feedback on a regular basis. Ensure that teachers are aware of the needs of inclusion of all pupils and groups and make provision for it in their planning. Ensure that feedback from lesson observation, work scrutiny and analysis of assessment data is appropriately reflected in teachers planning. Ensure teachers are clear about the teaching of objectives in lessons, understand the sequence of teaching and learning in the subject and communicate this to pupils. Observe colleagues teaching and provide effective feedback on the effectiveness of their teaching strategies to bring about further improvement. Act as a performance management team leader for identified teachers. Monitor the deployment of teachers, support staff and other adults to ensure their effective contribution to pupils learning. Actions: 1. To audit current teaching, lesson planning and schemes of work to ensure best practice. 2. To complete regular book scrutiny to ensure the marking and presentation policies are implemented to a high standard and accelerating pupil progress. 3. To analyse test results, (as appropriate) to identify areas of strength and weakness, informing school performance review and development, and suggest further action to support school improvement. 4. To support the school in fully exploiting systems for assessing and tracking pupil performance, using all data (e.g. from SATs, NFER, etc) to inform teaching, to identify target pupils and to initiate appropriate interventions for these pupils. 5. To provide additional training, including INSET and staff meetings, for teachers, developing strategies and techniques for further improving standards, in response to analysis of test results and scrutiny of teaching and learning. 6. To assist colleagues develop their skills and confidences in teaching through modeling lessons and implementing a range of teaching and learning strategies. 7. To evaluate the impact of any teaching interventions within the school on raising standards of attainment. 8. Have an overview of the curriculum area of responsibility and prioritise initiatives to raise standards of attainment including the completion of a yearly action plan and review of curriculum policy. 9. To provide support to teachers in setting individual or group targets as appropriate 10.
