4 1. The right activity (2) Familiarise yourself with the Capacity building action line and its objectives Is the project idea in line with these objectives? A good project idea is not enough! 4

The right activity (3) KA2 Capacity building is the right activity to foster institutional capacity building It is not the right activity to fund research to improve academic quality (curriculum development, teacher training etc.) to fund pure mobility to improve management and financial administration of HEIs to fund bilateral partnerships ETC. 5

6 2. Start early! Best practice: START EARLY! Involve your partners from the very beginning and check their availability (holiday times, academic calendar) From the very beginning, be aware of the deadline for submission 6

7 3. Read the docs! Good news all information will be published on the Internet! Strong consortium (1) Strong institutional support - Responsibility for engagement in activities by top-level management Complementarity of partners - no overlapping in tasks and responsibilities Partner country institutions: needs analysis (at least)! No sleeping partners (strong involvement of all partners from the very beginning) Choosing the lead institution (project management experience and capacity) Respect minimum requirements for number of partners + Other HEIs (added value) + Non-university partners (added value) Partner 2 Partner 3 Partner 1 9

Strong consortium (2) Let s built a consortium Preferably existing networks or partnerships Best case: already common project experience (prove of collaboration and mutual trust) New partners: partners of partners, contacts, partner search/requests (quality assessment!) Communication Choose the language with which all project partners are the most comfortable Communicate with your partners on a regularly basis (Skype, s, Phone) Be reliable build trust do not underestimate intercultural communication 10

11 6. Get feedback Use knowledge of colleagues Consult with NAs / NEO(s) Consider feedback loops and update your proposal regularly Be very accurate (checklists!) Use evaluation grids (relevance sustainability etc.)! 11

12 7. Keep asking and talking! Define and test communication channels (Phone, , skype, collaborative working platforms) If possible, 1-2 physical meetings (e.g. with support of DAAD for German HEI representatives) EACEA / NEOs 12
