As usual the school has been a hive of activity with lots of excellent learning opportunities for our pupils. Keep up to date with all that is happening in the school through twitter. You can follow for regular tweets from the school. Many of our classes now have their own twitter or dojo sites with regular information on what is happening in each class. GROUPCALL Hopefully this will be our last paper newsletter as we will be moving to communication shortly. If you haven t already provided us with an up to date please do so as soon as possible so you don t miss out on important information. Staffing Miss Laura Maclachlan has successfully been appointed as permanent class teacher in Aileymill Primary School and will leave our school on Friday 6 November. We wish Miss Maclachlan good luck in her new post. Miss McDade will now teach P6a with Miss Alison Eyland taking over as RCCT in St Ninian s Primary. Spare Clothes We are running low on spare clothes to change children who get dirty. If you have any spare skirts, trousers or socks/tights could you please hand them in to the office. We have a right to be heard - UNCRC Article 13 School Values Working in Partnership Thank you for participating in our questionnaire to shape our school values. Our whole school community were involved in the process, with the school council looking at the results of the questionnaire and discussing, debating and agreeing with the results. Our values will be RESPCT, HONESTY, FRIENDSHIP and INCLUSION. The pupil council helped launch our new values at assembly last week. As a school community we intend to embed these values to enhance our school s positive ethos. School Handbook It s that time of the year when we update our school handbook which is given to pupils as they enrole in January. It is also available on our website. We would like to invite parents and carers to join a working party to look at our handbook and contribute to changes.
2 The working party will include staff, parents and pupils. If you can join us then please pop into the school on Thursday 19 November at 10 a.m. We have a right to play and relax UNCRC Article 31 Hallowe en Disco Thanks to our hardworking PTA for organising such a fantastic Hallowe en disco for the children. Primaries 1 3 also enjoyed their snacks from the PTA after their Hallowe en Parade. A spectacular time was had by all. Christmas Parties The Christmas parties will take place on the following dates: 14 December P5a and P5b (afternoon) 15 December P6a and P6b (morning) 16 December P3,3/4,4 (afternoon) 17 December - P1a and P1b, P2a and P2b (afternoon) 18 December P7 a and P7b (morning) Children should wear their party clothes to school that day. Choir Our school choir and Glee Club have been busy preparing for a number of Christmas events including singing in the Oak Mall, Sainsbury s, Switch on of the Christmas Lights and the Gourock Schools and Chaplains Christmas Event. A list of times and dates of each event will be sent home shortly. School Sports Events - We have a right to be healthy! UNCRC Article 24 Rugby Our P6 pupils recently participated in a rugby tournament at Greenock Wanderers. The children very much enjoyed the event following rugby training sessions in school. They will also take part in a cluster tournament in St Andrew s Primary School on 13 November. More details to follow. Netball Our netball team have been invited to take part in a tournament with local schools. The first session will be held on Tuesday 10 November. The netballers have enjoyed their after school sessions and are now looking forward to participating in competition. Good luck girls! Scottish Schools Swimming Well done to our pupils who represented the school at the above event. The event was very successful with many pupils involved achieving a new personal best. Cross Country Well done to our boys and girls in P6 and P7 who recently took part in the cross country event in Kilmacolm. The children were very successful with both boys and girls winning the team event. Well done to Orla in P7 who came second overall, a fantastic achievement for everyone.
3 Lepra Fundraiser Thank you once again for your generosity in supporting our charity fundraiser for Lepra. The Lepra representative is joining us for a special assembly to personally thank the children for their generosity. Christmas Lunch Christmas lunch, costing 1.90, will be available for the children on Wednesday 16 December. If your child would prefer the vegetarian option (baked potato), please telephone the school on We have a right to a clean environment UNCRC Article 24 Litter We continue to address the ongoing issue of litter in our playground. It would be really helpful if you would remind your child of the importance of being responsible citizens by remembering to put their rubbish in the bin and taking a pride in our school. We have the right to practice our religion - UNCRC Article 14 Confirmation The mass of Commitment for the P7 pupils receiving Confirmation this year will be held on Sunday 15 November at a.m. in St Ninian s Church. Pupils, Parents and Sponsors should attend this mass. St Andrew s Day We are looking forward to celebrating St Andrew s Day with mass in school at 11 a.m. Advent This year the first Sunday of Advent falls on 29 November. On Friday 4 December we will have an Advent assembly in the school hall which the pupils will attend. Christmas Concert Tickets This year s Christmas Concert takes place at 1.15pm on Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 December. Tickets priced 2.50 will be on sale from Thursday 12 November. If you would like to attend, please complete the attached form and send it into school with your money. In order to ensure that all families are able to attend, a maximum of two tickets per family will be available initially. Requests for an additional two tickets will be dealt with from Friday 20 November and will be on a first come first served basis - if you would like additional tickets, please complete and return the appropriate form. Please do not send in any forms or money before the specified dates. Correct change would be very much appreciated. Please note that this year our instrumentalists will perform as our audience arrive. The cellists and violinists will play Tuesday s concert, woodwind players Wednesday s concert, and the brass players will perform Thursday s concert.
4 Safety Due to safety regulations, admission to these performances will be by ticket only. Unfortunately there can be no exceptions to this rule. On performance days, please enter the school by the hall door which will be open from 12.45pm. As usual we will have a Christmas Raffle at each event. In consideration of children s safety and our neighbours, please park considerably remaining clear of driveways. The pitches are not available for parking this year. Parent Partnership Fundraising Events This year our Parent Partnership has been busy fundraising through our Christmas Cards, Tea Towels and Mugs. They will also be holding a raffle at our Christmas Concert with a host of goodies to be won. A Festive Come As you Please day has also been organised for Friday 11 December with children invited to come to school dressed festively for a donation. There will be no Christmas Fete this year. Thank you for your continued generosity in supporting these events. The Parent Partnership do a wonderful job of supporting our school in many ways and are always looking for new volunteers. Feel free to contact the school if you are willing to help with any future events. Calendar Enterprise Activity We are looking for local businesses to sponsor our calendar. The cost of sponsorship is 25 and the deadline is Friday 13 November. We value your views Please let us know if you are particularly pleased about something or have any suggestions or concerns.
