If your preference is for the conventional layout with one piece kitchen unit d o w n the off-side of the vehicle - then that's the Villa. If you opt for a double bed over the engine deck created by those marvellous German 'rock and roll' bed mechanisms then this is also the Villa. But if y o u seek something a little different with a choice of single or double beds, 'all enveloping' rear kitchen with masses of storage and an uninterrupted standing height right to the front windscreen then you'll find the Variety quite irresistible. Even though the Variety is a high top model, it's based on Volkswagen's own low line design and the height is very little different from many elevating roof motor caravans on the road today Volkswagen Variety from Richard Holdsworth truely the new dimension in Volkswagen motor caravans. Now, let's see how we capitalise on this remarkable breakthrough in design. Storage: First, by utilising the cab for your bed, the Variety frees the engine deck and allows the building of a storage complex that would not shame many a coachbuilt motor caravan. Kitchen: Then there's your kitchen unit. With a distinctive 'U' shape, the working area is massive for a van of this size and with this extra space, we've grasped the opportunity of providing facilities and unashamed luxury normally reserved for much more expensive motor caravans. Richard Holdsworth are leaders in the world of motor caravan design and while others may be prepared to consolidate on existing models, Richard Holdsworth is always seeking something new and from this intensive research and development programme has come an undisputed winner - the Volkswagen Variety. The Variety is more than just another motor caravan it is an entirely fresh approach bringing a new dimension in space and facilities to the Volkswagen chassis. For too long the Volkswagen Transporter has been exceptional in all things - but a little short on standing room due to the centre roof strengthening bow virtually consigning the rear of the vehicle to the bed area only Now, with the approval of Volkswagen, Richard Holdsworth has taken the special high top model and eliminated both the centre roof bow plus the equally restrictive over-cab roof panel in one gigantic step forward. The result - uninterrupted headroom from the engine deck to the front windscreen and the provision of space and features normally associated only with the much larger Volkswagen LT. Hot water is available at the turn of a tap and the two burner and grill cooker also incorporates a 'simmer' plate for genuine cordon bleu cooking. Below is an Electrolux gas/12 volt refrigerator as a standard fitting. Sleeping: By spreading the bed into the vehicle cab, you not only make room for more facilities elsewhere in the vehicle, but you also have the added bonus of offering single or double beds. (For those who specify a four berth, 'solid' upholstered roof bed panels are available and these can be positioned anywhere within the giant roof aperture - or left at home when not required). Dining: Again there's a choice. Just swivel the reclining cab seats and you have an exclusive cab dinette for two. For up to six, fold out the side bench seats and insert the second table. It's as simple as that. Villa has one flexi-seat - the Variety two and this means a huge step forwards in adaptability Apart from the fact that each seat folds out to form your side bench seat for dining and lines up with the cab seats for sleeping - they lift out of the vehicle and leave almost the entire floor area free for load carrying or just creating space when you're on site.

Nearly every motor caravan owner, enthusiast or simply observer, seems to agree the best w a y to convert the V o l k s w a g e n is with a standard layout e n c o m p a s s i n g one long unit opposite the side door and w i t h the double b e d over the engine deck. A n d w h y n o t? It's an excellent layout that is outstandingly successful w i t h the majority of users. But, as w i t h anything o n four wheels, there are good and b a d w a y s of doing the s a m e thing a n d this is where the quality a n d flair of Richard H o l d s w o r t h c o m e s to the fore. Take the rear bed, for example. You want to change from day-time living to night-time sleeping without a lot of fuss a n d the V o l k s w a g e n Villa allows y o u to do this w i t h ease. Just lift the seat base a n d the back rest drops into place automatically A n d it goes back to the b e n c h seat just as quickly next m o r n i n g. The b e d is wide, too, a n d with 5 inch deep foam mattresses, it can't be beaten for comfort either. The long storage unit o n the Villa stretches f r o m immediately behind the driver's seat to a position over the engine deck. It cleverly manages to fit in a two burner and grill cooker plus the sink, space for a fridge, large food c u p b o a r d, nest of drawers and a simply huge coolbox. Versatility: The V o l k s w a g e n is the most versatile of w o r k h o r s e s - if the m o t o r caravan conversion allows A l w a y s recognised as the easiest to raise or lower, the Giant-Riser is a b o o n for anyone w i t h back troubles (there are n o heavy side panels to push or pull into place). The insulated, quilted lining keeps y o u w a r m o n the coldest day a n d it's a l o w line roof that will probably fit m o r e garages than any other roof o n the market. Options: The V o l k s w a g e n Villa isn't loaded with expensive extras y o u m a y never use. For example, y o u c a n specify your Villa without roof beds. Or without a refrigerator. A n d y o u m a y not w a n t a louvre or sliding w i n d o w w h e n the elevating roof has an excellent ventilator. For a start, it's lighter (and this m e a n s less fuel c o n s u m e d carrying a lot of unnecessary weight around) and it's m u c h stronger too. To m a t c h our beautiful timber finishes, w e use a hard wearing dralon seat fabric for our furnishings, w o r k t o p s in leather grained laminated b o n d e d to m a r i n e ply no less than 1 8 m m thick a n d carpet type trim for the best in insulation.
