1 Kindle Fire and Kindle Apps You will need: A library card and pin number An amazon.com account Optional: Overdrive Media Console app for Android (allows you to download audiobooks and Epub format ebooks) and an Adobe ID Open the web browser on your device and go to the library s website, On the right side of the screen, click on Download. This takes you to the Kentucky Libraries Unbound Digital Media Catalog. This is where you can search for ebooks, audiobooks, video, and music to download from the library. You can also search the regular library catalog if you prefer, but going into the KY Libraries Unbound catalog will only show results for downloadable items.

2 You may browse by category or search for books by typing in a title, author, subject, etc. Or go to Advanced Search to limit the format to Kindle books. Once you find a book/audiobook to checkout, tap the cover and you will see either Sign in for Availability, Borrow, or Place a Hold. You will also see a bookmark icon that you may use to add the book to a wish list, a share icon, and an arrow that says more. Tapping more will lead you to a synopsis of the book.

3 To sign in, you will then need to tap the arrow to the right of select library and choose Nelson County from a list: Sign in to your account with your library card number and pin number: If you tapped Place a Hold, you will be asked to provide an address to be notified when the book is available. If you tap Sign in for availability, you will then tap either Borrow or Place a Hold after signing in. After you sign in, you will get a message that the book has been added to your bookshelf. Tap Go to bookshelf to send the book to your Kindle or to read it in your device s web browser:

4 Your bookshelf will show you all the ebooks/audiobooks that you have checked out. Next to each book you will see two buttons: Download and Read (in your browser).

5 Tap Download and then tap the checkbox next to Kindle. Then choose confirm and download. After you choose Confirm & Download, your browser will open up a new tab, which will be an amazon.com page. THE LIBRARY HAS TO USE AMAZON.COM TO TRANSFER BOOKS TO A KINDLE. YOU ARE STILL BORROWING THE BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY FREE OF CHARGE. If you are already logged into your amazon.com account, choose send to s kindle in the green box on the right side of the page. If you are not logged in to your Amazon.com account, click on get library book in the green box.

6 If you are not logged in, you ll then be prompted to login to your Amazon account. Make sure that the book is being delivered to the correct Kindle device and click Continue. Your book will then be delivered to your Kindle. The Kindle must be connected to wi-fi for the book to load. TIP: YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY OVER A 3G WIRELESS CONNECTION. IF YOUR KINDLE IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET OVER 3G, YOU WILL NEED TO SWITCH TO A WI-FI CONNECTION BEFORE DOWNLOADING YOUR LIBRARY BOOK. After you send a book to your Kindle, go back to your home screen. If you don t see the book, click the gear icon on your screen, then press sync and the book should download.

7 Audiobooks and Adobe EPUB-format ebooks on the Kindle Fire: From your Kindle Fire s home screen, tap Apps and then on the next screen Store. Search the store for Overdrive Media Console. Install the free app on your Kindle. On some versions of the Kindle Fire, you must change your settings to allow installations of applications. From your Kindle s home screen, click on settings, and then device. Change allow installation of applications from off to on. Once you have OMC installed on your Kindle, it will appear in your apps screen and in your carousel with this icon: If Overdrive does not open automatically, open it from your home screen and you ll see something similar to the picture below. Uncheck show at start-up.

8 You may be prompted to authorize the app with an Adobe ID. If you are not prompted, locate and tap the menu button on the screen. Then tap App settings, where you will be prompted to authorize the App with and Adobe ID.

9 If you do not have an Adobe ID, click the link to create one.

10 After the app is authorized with your Adobe ID, tap the menu button again and choose Get Books. Then choose Add a Library :

11 Search for the Nelson County Public Library by typing in the library s zip code (40004). You ll get three results that say Nelson County Public Library -choose the first one.

12 On the next screen, you will see Kentucky Libraries Unbound. Tap the star on the left-hand side of the screen to save our library to your Get Books list. Then click on Kentucky Libraries Unbound. You ll be taken to a version of the Kentucky Libraries Unbound website which includes audiobooks and ebooks that can be downloaded through the Overdrive Media Console App on your Kindle Fire.

13 Menu button: Browse by category My account: List of current checkouts, holds, and wish lists Overdrive Help Search Once you find a book/audiobook to checkout, tap the cover and you will see either Sign in for Availability, Borrow, or Place a Hold. 15 After you tap Borrow, you may then download the book or audiobook. If you are downloading an audiobook, it should say Download MP3 audiobook. You will see a message saying that your book/audiobook is loading. To read or listen to the book, tap the main menu button at the bottom of your screen and choose bookshelf. You ll then see all of the items you have downloaded through the Overdrive app. You can read, listen, or return books from this screen:
