3 BASEBALL Each camper will be instructed in the proper basic fundamentals of baseball: hitting, fielding, catching, throwing, pitching, baserunning and stretching. All areas will be taught by Fenwick Baseball Head Coach Dave Hogan and many of his current varsity and collegiate players. The second week of camp (for 7 11-year-olds) is geared toward a higher skill level instruction in all areas. Each camper must bring his own equipment. A camp tee shirt will be issued. Ages 7 11 yrs. 4 BOYS BASKETBALL These two camps are divided into two different age groups. Both are directed by Fenwick Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach Rick Malnati and will teach many of the offensive and defensive fundamentals of basketball. We will play 5-on-5 games each day and will award team champions each week. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt, and there will be opportunities to win other prizes throughout the week. 6 BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Our camp is for students who are serious about running and about the upcoming season. We will meet in different locations throughout the summer such as Prairie Path in Elmhurst, Concordia in River Forest and the forest preserve in Brookfield. We look forward to seeing you. 7 GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Under the guidance of the coaches and camaraderie of the team, girls will progress healthily over the six weeks to build endurance for cross country or any other sport. The consistent and disciplined training necessary for building endurance will be coupled with fun activities and fantastic teammates. 8 YOUTH RUNNING CAMP With Fenwick Girls Cross Country Coach Kevin Roche and Fenwick Cross Country varsity athletes as counselors, boy and girl campers will get an introduction to distance running and the skills required to succeed in it. This camp is open to all abilities, and coaches will create a plan for each athlete given their level to progress healthily. Contact Coach Roche at kroche@fenwickfriars.com with any questions. 9 FOOTBALL FRESHMEN MINI CAMP All 2017 freshmen football players are strongly encouraged to attend the Freshmen Mini Camp. It will include on-field demonstrations, teaching skills, developmental/position skills and team practice over these three days. The Fenwick varsity coaching staff will be assisting Fenwick s freshmen coaches, allowing our coaches an opportunity to observe and evaluate our athletes. The cost includes a jersey and shorts. Players are asked to bring their helmets and shoulder pads (issued June 3) along with water Freshmen Players June p.m. June a.m. Located at the Priory football field in River Forest Registration will end for this camp on June 15, FOOTBALL COMBINE TRAINING Players can test their skills in this NFL style combine, two-day event. Get measured (height and weight), timed in the 40-yard dash, measured in the vertical jump, standing broad jump, timed in the 20-yard shuttle and the L drill, just like the collegiate athletes do in Indianapolis! Each day will be divided between three measured events followed by one hour of onfield football instruction with Fenwick Football Varsity Head Head Coach, Gene Nudo and his varsity football staff. Each registered student athlete will receive a Combine t-shirt. 10 BOYS LACROSSE Coached by Fenwick s lacrosse coaches and alumni, this camp is ideal for beginners and experienced players alike. Those campers new to the sport will learn the basics of the game, and the more experienced players will have the opportunity to improve on existing skills. All campers who sign up by May 15 will receive a pinny. Full sets of equipment may be available for campers to borrow. There is a limited amount so those interested should contact Coach Jerry Considine at jerry. considine23@gmail.com. 11 GIRLS LACROSSE Get your summer started right by joining current and former Fenwick lacrosse players and coaches for a week of fun and learning. This program focuses on the fundamental skills of lacrosse ground balls, cradling, passing, catching, shooting and individual defense. Girls entering 5 th 8 th grade this fall are welcome. Previous lacrosse experience is not necessary and no equipment (other than a mouth guard) is required, but if you have your own, please bring it! Campers will receive a t-shirt and a drawstring bag. 12 SOCCER Enjoy a fun-filled week of technical skill training, tactical development, and various game competitions. Our full boys/girls coaching staff will be joined by numerous Fenwick alumni currently playing at the next levels. We welcome all players from all different skills levels and experience. 13 SOFTBALL Fenwick varsity and JV team coaches will cover all areas of softball: fielding (infield/ outfield), hitting, pitching, catching and base-running. Instruction will include drills that emphasize the key points of each area covered. 14 SWIMMING This camp aims to instill confidence, knowledge and strength in the swimmer. Each session offers five class times from which to choose. On the first day, swimmers will be tested and placed into groups based on skill level. The groups have an instructorto-swimmer ratio of 4-to-1 in most cases, especially with beginner groups. 15 TENNIS Players of all levels are invited to this camp, which will include instruction in all the basic strokes as well as fun drills to improve both singles and doubles strategy, and a mini-tournament. 18 FENWICK SUMMER CAMPS 2017 ACADEMICS t in ll g SCIENCE CAMP Campers will spend time in Fenwick s stateof-the-art science labs conducting experiments in biology, chemistry and physics. The last day of camp is a full-day field trip* to Chicago s Shedd Aquarium, which will include a private behindthe-scenes tour! Grade 8 July 17 July a.m. 50 participants max. end on July 16, ART CAMP Young artists talents will be challenged and their imagination will be free to explore at Fenwick s one week Art Camp. Daily projects will be designed to allow each artist to use Fenwick s stateof-the-art Art Studio and create professional masterpieces. The last day of camp will include a full-day field trip* downtown to visit and sketch some of Chicago s great sculptures and to hit the sights while enjoying a picnic lunch at Millennium Park! Grades 6 8 July a.m. 1 p.m. 25 participants max. end on July 16, BROADCASTING CAMP This camp is for kids who have a real interest in broadcast communications. The campers will spend the week producing a newscast. They will get experience writing, filming, presenting and editing the show while learning about equipment, lighting and sound and editing software. The last day of camp will include a full-day field trip* that includes lunch. 19 FENWICK SUMMER CAMPS 2017 ACADEMICS CHICAGO CULTURE CAMP This camp is an entire week of full-day field trips to some of Chicago s must culturally and historically significant sites. Campers interested in learning more about this region of the country will benefit greatly from visits to the Chicago History Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, the Illinois Railroad Museum and more.
