1 3 March hrs 042/2015 In 2014, 80.7 per cent of hoseholds in Malta and Gozo had access to the internet, while reglar internet sers reached 239,225 or 73.2 per cent of the poplation aged 16 to 74. ICT Usage by Hoseholds: 2014 Compter and internet access in hoseholds Internet access in hoseholds dring 2014 increased by 1.9 percentage points when compared with the previos year. Hoseholds with children were more likely to have internet access at home, while jst over half the hoseholds with one adlt member and withot children had an internet connection (Table 1). The largest percentage of internet access in hoseholds was registered in the Western District (87.5 per cent), while the smallest percentage was recorded in the Sothern Harbor District (74.8 per cent) (Chart 1). Compter and internet se by individals The highest percentage of compter and internet se was registered within the 16 to 24 age cohort, while the older poplation aged 65 to 74 recorded the lowest internet sage level (35.0 per cent) (Table 3). Dring 2014, 69.7 per cent of internet sers also made se of a mobile internet connection (Table 5). The share of internet sers making se of egovernment services stood at 55.0 per cent. An increase in egovernment sage was noted in the majority of age cohorts (Table 7). In 2014, 64.2 per cent of internet sers also acqired some form of prodcts or services online. Clothes and sports goods were the most common acqired items (42.1 per cent) followed by prchases of holiday accommodation (26.3 per cent) and other transport arrangements (24.1 per cent) (Table 8). E-skills Srvey reslts show that 82.6 per cent of compter sers knew how to se the copy and paste tool, while 79.4 per cent were capable of copying or moving a file or folder (Table 9). This was most common among persons with a tertiary level of edcation and yonger age grops (Table 10). 9 Methodological Notes To ensre reliable reslts, reglar adits were condcted together with checks for data entry errors and for otliers. 4. The target poplation for this srvey inclded all persons aged between 16 and 74 residing in private hoseholds. A gross sample of 1,500 individals was selected sing systematic random sampling from a poplation database held and maintained by NSO. A total of 1,259 qestionnaires were collected between May and Jne 2014, the majority of which throgh face-to-face interviews, yielding an overall response rate of 83.9 per cent. Separate weights for hoseholds and individals were compted. For calibration prposes, data were sbdivided by sex, age grops and districts (NUTS 4 classification). Retrned qestionnaires were at times incomplete, ths reslting in item non-response. Other non-sampling errors may occr for reasons sch as respondent error, the qality of the sampling frame, and data entry errors. While every effort was made to minimise these errors, these are still present and mst be borne in mind by the sers of these data. 5.
