Whether yo re jst beginning yor professional career, focsed on the needs of a growing family or concerned with bilding a secre retirement, the University of Dayton offers a rich benefit plan designed to help yo achieve yor goals. This brochre is an introdction to the University s benefit plan. 3 Benefits that fit yor individal needs The University s insrance benefits are designed to provide yo and yor family with financial secrity now and in the ftre. LIFE INSURANCE The University pays the fll cost of grop life insrance for each eligible employee. The basic life insrance policy is eqal to 1.7 times the employee s annal base salary. Redctions apply for employees 55 or older. SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE AND ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT INSURANCE Eligible employees may prchase additional life insrance at their own expense and enroll in a spplemental life insrance program valed at one, two, three or for times the annal base salary, p to a maximm of $750,000. Accidental death and dismemberment insrance, which offers comprehensive 24-hor accident protection, may also be prchased by the employee for themselves or their family. HEALTH CARE INSURANCE The University health insrance program provides for individal and for family coverage. Some pre-existing condition limitations may apply. The University and the employee share in the cost of medical insrance coverage. Plan options provide different levels of benefits to meet individal needs. Each plan option incldes prescription drg coverage, which is available on a retail and mail-order basis. Dental insrance is available in combination with medical or by itself. All employee contribtions to health care and dental premims may be made on a pretax basis. Enrollment in any health insrance plan also enrolls yo and yor family in a vision plan to help with the cost of glasses and contacts. FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS Flexible spending acconts let yo pay for ot-of-pocket expenses for health care and dependent care on a before-tax basis, saving yo money. Health care spending acconts can be sed to pay for expenses not covered nder yor health care insrance, inclding, for example, medical and dental plan dedctibles and co-payments and expenses for glasses and contact lenses. Dependent care spending acconts can be sed to pay for day care, elder care and care for yor dependents who are not capable of self-care. DISABILITY INSURANCE The University offers both short-term and long-term disability coverage for all eligible employees.
4 Planning for a secre financial ftre RETIREMENT BENEFITS University contribtions Employee contribtions The University contribtes to an employer-fnded grop retirement annity 401(a) plan with TIAACREF. The plan featres a for-year vesting schedle, and University contribtions are made every pay period. Yo may direct the allocation of University contribtions among several variable annities and mtal fnds. Employees contribte to a tax-deferred 403(b) annity plan that offers a selection of investment fnds managed by a choice of financial providers. Yo may make taxdeferred or after-tax contribtions p to the maximm amont allowed by the Internal Revene Service. The University s contribtion is a percent of yor annal salary and is determined by yor length of eligible service and the level of yor contribtion to the 403(b) retirement plan. To receive the maximm level of University contribtion dring the first 10 years of service, individals mst contribte at least 5 percent of their base annal salaries to an approved taxdeferred annity program. FINANCIAL PLANNING To help yo create a strategy to provide for yor children s edcation, meet retirement goals or plan yor estate, TIAA-CREF offers a personal financial plan prepared by certified financial planners.
5 EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE/WORKLIFE PROGAM Focsed on family needs SICK LEAVE The University provides sick leave for medical conditions that prevent employees from working and for certain family-related medical isses. ADOPTION REIMBURSEMENT The University will pay eligible employees one-half of qalified legal adoption expenses, p to $5,000 per family, per adoption. EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM The Bombeck Family Learning Center, the University of Dayton School of Edcation and Allied Professions children s center, provides an early childhood program based on developmentally appropriate practices. The partnership with the School of Edcation and Allied Professions has established the center as an early childhood demonstration school. Accreditation by the National Association for the Edcation of Yong Children was awarded in 2003, assring that the highest standards of qality are being met. Enrollment is dependent pon availability of openings, with priority given to children of University of Dayton employees. A tition discont is available for benefit-eligible employees. The employee assistance program, administered by a private conslting and service firm, provides professional, confidential conseling for most personal problems, as well as informational resorces on a variety of topics, inclding legal and financial matters, throgh an easily accessible website or toll-free nmber. The service is available at no cost to employees, their immediate family members and any other relative living in the same hosehold. DEPENDENT LIFE INSURANCE Employees may also by life insrance coverage for their sposes and dependent children. LONG-TERM CARE INSURANCE Employees may prchase grop long-term care insrance to help cover the cost of long-term nrsing home stays and home health care visits beyond the coverage offered by health care plans and other insrance or government programs. Coverage is available to eligible employees and their sposes, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents and grandparents-in-law p to age 80. TUITION ASSISTANCE Upon hire, eligible employees receive 100 percent remission of edcational cost for both ndergradate and gradate corses p to 18 credit hors per academic year. Yor dependents are eligible for ndergradate tition assistance when admitted in accordance with University of Dayton admission standards. The following eligibility schedle applies after the completion of continos eligible service: 2 years of service 50 percent of tition 3 years of service 75 percent of tition 4+ years of service 100 percent of tition Employees will pay 5 percent of the edcational cost that represents fees and srcharges.
6 Time to enjoy life otside of work HOLIDAYS The University observes 15 holidays a year. For this year s holiday schedle, see VACATION Eligible fll-time staff members employed on a continos basis earn vacation credits. Completed years of continos service Days per month Days per year From: WELLNESS PROGRAM The wellness program, open to all faclty and staff members, promotes a healthy lifestyle throgh activity-based corses, lectre programs, personal fitness training and screening programs for specific health risks. Sposes and immediate family members are accommodated on a space-available basis after employee registration. COMPUTER LOANS Loans throgh Day Air Credit Union are available to help fll-time employees prchase personal compters. EMPLOYEE PICNIC Each fall, the University hosts an employee picnic and provides food, beverages, entertainment, games and prizes free of charge to all benefiteligible employees.
