1 Please find below information on the Toronto ringing weekend: 12 bells and Then Some. Note that this information will be updated as details of the weekend are finalized. This weekend is a busy time in Toronto, and accommodations are being booked quickly. See below for more information on options in Toronto. 2. Did you know Toronto has a mini ring? And, the first in Canada! A ring of 8 bells that we will be setting up at the Cathedral for the ringing weekend. Schedule Friday, July 1 start time to be determined through Monday, July 4 end time to be determined Ringing will begin on Friday and will run through Monday. Start and end times will be determined based on the level of interest and availability indicated on registration forms. If you are coming to town early, Wednesday evening (6pm 8pm) is our weekly learners practice time, which focuses on bell handling. If you are interested in attending this session, please contact David Wilcox at david.wilcox@cloverbeen.com. Ringing Course: There is no ringing course planned at this time. Organization: Ringing will be separated into general ringing sessions and quarter peals. General Ringing: Each general ringing session will have a particular focus (e.g. rounds & call changes, Plain Bob & Grandsire, Kent & Stedman, Surprise). The detailed schedule will indicate the focus for each general ringing session. Quarter Peals: Time has been allocated for Quarter Peals. These will be pre organized and details will be posted in the tower. Bands will be organized based on the information provided in the registration forms. Mini Ring: There will be organized sessions on the mini ring throughout the weekend, including at the Friday evening social event. A detailed schedule will be provided in the tower. Page 1 of 6

2 Peals: Depending on interest and attendance, a Peal may be organized. The date and time will be determined based on interest and availability. The peal would be organized for either Friday morning or Monday afternoon. Detailed Schedule: A detailed schedule will be posted once more information has been gathered from registration forms. Registration Registration is not a requirement to attend, and latecomers are encouraged to just show up. However, please note that registration is strongly encourages for ringers that wish to participate in the following: Saturday Night Dinner Dinner will be catered (see below) Quarter Peals These will be organized in advance, based on registration forms (see above) Please register online at the following link: A registration form is also provided in Appendix A of this document. Milton, ON L9T 6M4 Organized Events The following events have been organized for the weekend: 1. Friday, Welcome Social A welcome social event will be held on Friday evening in Snell Hall. Light refreshments will be provided. Cost: $10 * Location: Snell Hall, in the Cathedral Centre. 2. Saturday Dinner, Royal Canadian Yacht Club Registration is required for this BBQ on Toronto s Centre Island, in order to plan appropriately for catering. Late registration will be accommodated where possible. Cost: $35 (cash bar) * Location: Centre Island. Maps and instructions for parking will be provided in the tower. * All costs in Canadian dollars. Accommodation There are several lodging options near the Cathedral. Some options for your consideration: 1. Air BnB Page 2 of 6

3 This website connects travellers with rooms and apartments in the city. You can find single rooms for rent, or entire condos / apartments. This is potentially a good option for sharing with a friend, and often offers an affordable solution to staying in the city. 2. Ryerson University In a good location, within walking distance to the Cathedral (two options located near Jarvis and Dundas East), this is an affordable option. ILLC has double rooms with private bathroom and Pitman hall has single rooms, some with private bath. Holiday Inn Express Lombard Street, Toronto ON Located directly across from the Cathedral, this is the most convenient option. Corporate Rate: Unfortunately, we were not able to get a corporate or group rate due to other activities planned in the city for the same weekend. The regular hotel rate of $180 $200 per night will therefore apply. Rooms will sell out quickly, so please make arrangements well in advance. 6. Toronto Youth Hostel Also located directly across from the Cathedral, this is also a convenient and affordable option (76 Church Street, Toronto, ON M5C 2G1). You can contact them directly at: / Additional lodging information can be found at: Meals and Restaurants Meals for ringers will be as follows: Breakfast and lunch each day will be on your own. Friday dinner will be on your own, however there will be a welcome reception in the evening and some light refreshments will be provided. Saturday dinner event will be organized (see Organized Events). Sunday and Monday meals will be on your own. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided in the tower. There are many restaurants and eateries in walking distance of the Cathedral. We will try and make some information available in the tower for visitors. Page 3 of 6

Details on the TTC routes, schedules, a TTC app, etc. can be found at: Public transit to areas surrounding Toronto (e.g suburbs) is operated by GO Transit, which uses both buses and train. Details on GO Transit can be found at: Getting to the Cathedral from the Airport 1. Toronto Pearson Airport Most commercial flights will arrive at Pearson Airport. Options for getting downtown include: Cab: Available at the arrivals terminal; Cost is between $53 (taxi) and $58 (limo) and will be fixed rate. NEW! Union Pearson Express! Frequency: every 15 minutes. Duration: 25 minutes to Union Station. Cost: $12 per person one way. Toronto City Centre Airport Flights from certain Canadian and US cities via Porter Airlines and Air Canada operate out of the Toronto City Centre Airport. Options for getting downtown include: Cab: Available at the arrivals terminal; Cost will be fared, and will likely be under $20 to the Cathedral area. Shuttle: Frequent runs to Union station; No cost. Public Transit: There are public transit options available from the airport to downtown Toronto. 5 Getting to the Cathedral from the Train Station VIA Rail arrives at Union Station, which is about 6 blocks from the Cathedral. You can either walk, or take a cab from Union Station to the tower. Getting to the Cathedral by Car For driving instructions, to the Cathedral, please visit google maps: Rush hour traffic in Toronto is typically on weekdays between 7am 10am (coming into the city) and 3pm 6pm (leaving the city). Allow for extra time if you plan to drive into or out of the city during these times. The Cathedral parking lot is accessed by Adelaide street, from the west (Adelaide is a one way street running east). Parking will not be available Friday, until the end of the work day, but will be available over the weekend. Street parking is available, though limited during rush hour. There are various lots around the Cathedral. Municipal Parking Lots are identified by the green P (and tend to be slightly better priced than private lots) a map of Green P lots near the Cathedral can be found at: Touring Toronto Organized Tours: There will be no organized outings or tours of Toronto and the surrounding area. However, there are many activities for those interested, including: Niagara Falls, The Niagara Wine Region, CN Tower Tour, Casa Loma, Centre Island, The Hockey Hall of Fame, Blue Jays Baseball games, St. Lawrence Market, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Royal Ontario Museum, Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Shaw Festival at Niagaraon the Lake.
