1 POPCS FINANCIAL AID GUIDELINES & CONSIDERATIONS Please read carefully! Purpose: POPCS Financial Aid awards are intended to be a short term bridge for families who are experiencing temporary hardships that they expect to overcome. Financial aid is considered by the POPCS Financial Aid Committee for students kindergarten through 12 th grade. Maximum financial aid assistance is for 5 years and is evaluated annually. Financial awards may decline in amount for those families receiving on-going assistance. Consideration for subsequent children begins from the first year the family received financial aid. Awards are up to a maximum of 50% tuition costs regardless of the calculated need provided by FACTS Management Company. All fees must be paid before students are eligible to be considered for financial aid. 90% of the fees paid to be considered for financial aid will be refunded if aid is denied or is not accepted by the family. Note that the POPCS Application Fee is not refundable. Preference is given to returning POPCS families who have demonstrated willingness and has served as a school volunteer. Once approved for financial aid, students must maintain a minimum grade requirement of a C (2.0 average overall GPA) during the current school year in which they are enrolled to be considered for future financial aid awards. Staff members are eligible to apply for financial aid but do not receive preferential consideration. Please make sure that all the required financial aid information is provided and answered completely to facilitate consideration. 2 Dear POPCS Family, It is our hope to serve you and your family at Prince of Peace Christian School & Early Learning Center (POPCS). We understand that you are applying for financial aid for the school year and we have listed some steps that you will find helpful in this process. The POPCS Financial Aid Program was established to assist families on a temporary need-basis (maximum 5 years of aid to any family - evaluated annually) structured for students kindergarten through 12 th grade. It is intended to be a short-term bridge for families that are experiencing temporary hardships. The criteria used to determine financial aid assistance is based on an inability of a student s family to pay full tuition to attend POPCS. To determine this, we outsource information and data collection to FACTS Management Company to help the POPCS Financial Aid Committee evaluate specific needs. Due to limited financial aid funds, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible as applications are considered in the order in which they are received. POPCS financial aid assistance is distributed (up to 50% of tuition cost) until the fund is depleted for each school year. We also ask that you make sure that all the information required is provided and answered completely. If the committee needs additional clarification, it can delay the award process. The steps and items that you will need to know and provide are: 1. Complete the POPCS New Student Application and pay application fee of $125. The application may be found online at 2. If your child is accepted to POPCS, you will receive an acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions and an online enrollment packet via . The enrollment packet must be submitted and Enrollment and Registration fees must be paid before financial assistance is awarded. 3. Complete the FACTS online application for aid assessment and pay the $30 application fee at 4. Once you have completed your FACTS online application, mail copies of your 2012 and 2013 (2013-if filed) tax forms including all supporting tax schedules IMMEDIATELY to FACTS Management Company. 3 6. Mail copies, if applicable, of supporting documentation for Social Security income, welfare, child support, food stamps, Worker s Compensation, and TANF to FACTS. 7. Complete and return the POPCS Application for Financial Aid. The application can be found online at This is a very important document that the Financial Aid Committee uses to evaluate and determine aid. Complete the document and include with as much information about your present circumstances and your plans to make this a temporary need as possible. This document can be mailed to POPCS or dropped off at the school administration office. If financial aid is not granted or if the amount awarded is not enough to permit your child to attend POPCS, the registration and enrollment fees will be refunded at 90% per the POPCS Financial Aid Policy. The POPCS New Student School Application Fee is not refundable. Please know that financial aid funds are limited and that needs have increased over the years. For this reason we require that you see your circumstance as temporary and are planning accordingly. After 5 years, even qualifying financial aid applications will not be considered so we can serve others in need. We hope to have the opportunity to work with you and your child in the school year. The Application for Financial Aid will be considered only after applicant has been accepted to the school. Financial Aid is applied to tuition for Kindergarten 12th grade only, and may not be applied to registration fees, Zone fees, or preschool tuition. Financial Aid awards are intended to be a short-term bridge for POPCS families who are experiencing temporary financial hardships that can be overcome. Because funds are limited and are granted on a priority basis, an early and complete application for admission and financial aid is required by January 31, 2014 for returning families and as soon after February 1, 2014 as possible for new families.
