Named after our former Chairman of the Board, this scholarship was endowed in recognition of Mr. Prior s life-long commitment to higher education. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance to a traditional student seeking a four year undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. 2 Paul W. Prior Scholarship In honor of Paul W. Prior s contribution to the Bank and to the thrift industry, and in recognition of his lifetime pursuit of academic excellence in the written and spoken language, The Paul W. Prior Scholarship was established by the Board of Directors of Ameriana Bank. The scholarship is to provide financial assistance to persons enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a four year undergraduate degree. A one-thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarship, renewable three times, will be awarded to one qualified, full-time (12 hours or more) student. The student must: Requirements 1. Be a customer of Ameriana Bank or the son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a customer of the Bank. 2. Fully complete the scholarship application. Applications will be Due February 28 of the year the scholarship will be awarded. Applications will be available at all Ameriana Banking Centers and at and may be returned to any location. 3. Furnish proof of admission to a college or university for full-time study. The college or university must be accredited by North Central Accreditation or be eligible to participate in the Federal Financial Aid Program. 4. Have maintained an overall B grade average while in high school. 5. Furnish a transcript of grades and attendance record. 6. Provide a copy of a completed financial aid form, or other proof of financial need. 7. Furnish three letters of reference; with at least one from a high school principal or teacher. 8. Furnish a one page theme describing his/her career objectives. 9. Have a record of effort and exhibit potential for success in his/her chosen course of study. Basis of Award Finalists may be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The Committee will select the recipient and their decision will be final. The Committee reserves the right to resolve all questions or interpretations of the qualifications or basis of awards as herein stated. This information will be kept confidential and reviewed only by the Scholarship Committee. The recipient agrees to participate in the announcement of the scholarship as determined by the Bank. The scholarship will be paid directly to the Bursar s office of the college or university. This is an equal opportunity scholarship. Determination of the recipient of the scholarship will not be based on the individual s sex, race, religion, color, physical abilities or national origin. Ameriana Bank reserves the right to increase, decrease or terminate the scholarship at any time. Renewal of the Scholarship 1. After the recipient has completed their first, second and third years of school, he/she must provide a transcript and schedule for the upcoming school year. The proof must be mailed to: Paul W. Prior Scholarship, Ameriana Bank, 2118 Bundy Ave., PO Box H, New Castle, IN The proof must be received by June 1 of the year completed. 2. If the recipient becomes inactive during the school year, he/she will forfeit the remainder of the scholarship. 3. When the recipient has furnished the transcript and schedule required in one (1) above, his/her scholarship will be renewed for one additional year. This scholarship may be renewed three times after the initial grant.
