Today, perhaps more than ever, ministers need structured opportunities to reflect, renew, and retool for the praxis of ministry. To help you enhance your abilities as an effective servant leader, Logsdon Seminary has developed the program where you can refresh your spirit, gain new insights for ministry, and deepen your intellectual and spiritual resources for the journey ahead. The Logsdon program integrates advanced theological reflection with real ministry settings. A rich dialogue with faculty mentors, field supervisors, and a peer cohort group form the essential core of the Doctor of Ministry experience. As you remain engaged in ministry where God has placed you, the program will challenge you to grow intellectually and spiritually. You will gain new knowledge and skills, learn to analyze and reflect theologically on the practice of ministry, and nurture your personal spiritual life as a part of the program. 3 Purpose Statement The purpose of the (DMin) degree at Logsdon Seminary is to provide advanced theological education for persons who hold the Master of Divinity degree and who are engaged in the practice of ministry. The Logsdon DMin program emphasizes the integration of theological reflection and practice, supervision and mentorship, and servant leadership that draws on spiritual and missional formation in both church and minister. The DMin degree has five primary goals: 1. To build upon the foundation of the MDiv degree and substantial experience in ministry. 2. To increase understanding of the nature, purpose, and practice of ministry. 3. To improve skills for analyzing ministry settings and engaging in effective ministry. 4. To enhance the reflective integration of knowledge and skills in the practice of ministry. 5. To augment the spiritual development of the minister. Financial Information Costs of the Program at Logsdon Seminary for the Academic Year Effective Tuition Rate $360/hour for non-baptist students $190/hour for Baptist students* Program Fees Supervisory Fee - $500/semester for 4 semesters Project Fee - $800 Other fees applicable to all HSU students (see catalog for details) *The Baptist student effective tuition rate is scholarshipped through Ministerial Financial Assistance from the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT). Any Baptist student is eligible for this assistance in his/her first year of enrollment. After the first year, the student must be a member of a BGCT affiliated church in order to continue to receive this funding. Admission Materials

4 Program Eligibility The following is required of applicants for the program: u Completion of the Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent from an ATS accredited institution u A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during graduate study* u A competitive score on the verbal section of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or on the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) u Active engagement in vocational ministry through which the applicant is able to conduct meaningful research, participate in supervised ministry, and implement a ministry project u A minimum of three years of significant ministry experience at the time of acceptance beyond the date when the Master of Divinity degree was earned** * If the applicant s GPA is lower than 3.0, the applicant may be considered for provisional admission in light of other eligibility requirements. **Exceptions may be considered for applicants with under three years ministry experience since completion of the Master of Divinity if the applicant demonstrates significant ministry experience prior to or during the completion of the Master of Divinity. Admission Procedure & Checklist Complete the application for admission. Submit a personal statement according to the guidelines described in admission materials. Submit the $50 application fee. (The application fee is waived for graduates of Hardin-Simmons.) Have official transcripts sent to Logsdon Seminary directly from each institution you have completed undergraduate or graduate study. Arrange to take the GRE or MAT and have scores sent to Logsdon Seminary. (GRE Code: 4254, MAT Code: 1236) Arrange for a formal interview with an administrator of Logsdon Seminary. Provide recommendation forms to four persons (including a co-worker in ministry and a professor from your MDiv program) who are qualified to assess your skills in ministry and ability for advanced theological education. Ask each person to complete a recommendation form and return it to Logsdon Seminary. Ask your church to officially endorse you as an applicant to the program and have them complete the church recommendation form and return it to Logsdon Seminary. (If your ministry is not in a local church, an alternate endorsement process is employed. Please contact us for details.) If you are a Baptist student applying for BGCT Ministerial Financial Assistance, please complete the application for BGCT assistance found in the admission materials. Additional requirements apply to international students, including an acceptable score on the TOEFL. Please contact us for more information. After all other admission materials have been processed, sign a release for conducting a background check, which is required for the supervision in ministry element of the degree. 7 Application for Admission FINANCIAL INFORMATION Through funds from the Cooperative Program of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Ministerial Financial Aid is available for most Baptist students enrolled in Logsdon Seminary. In the first year of enrollment, a student who has membership with a Baptist church may receive these funds. In order to continue receiving these funds after the first year, a student must be a member of church that is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. This scholarship is available to part-time and full-time students. Entering students must complete a BGCT Ministerial Financial Aid Church Certification form (included in this document) and have a letter on file from his/her pastor (or church official if student is the pastor). The pastor letter requirement can be fulfilled by one of the personal references. Please explain below your plans for financing your education, indicating any other financial obligations and if you anticipate receiving aid from the BGCT. I anticipate receiving Ministerial Financial Aid from the Baptist General Convention of Texas. 9 Personal Statement Prepare a personal statement that reflects your autobiographical and theological perspectives on the issues described below. Your response should give careful attention to style and content. A. Autobiographical Perspective (in 5-7 double-spaced pages) 1. Provide a narrative account of your Christian journey and your call to ministry 2. Evaluate your educational experience up to this point. While the narrative will include many items, but be sure to discuss what appealed to you most and least in your educational background, learning styles/processes that you prefer and do not prefer, and what you might change about your educational experience if you had it to do over again. 3. Describe the nature of your ministry experience thus far and how you evaluate that experience. Within the narrative discuss, among other things, your philosophy of ministry, the most and least enjoyable aspects of ministry for you, how you feel about your ministry career, and the goals you have for your ministry. 4. Describe your reason for pursuing a degree, including how you perceive the degree will enhance your ministry. B. Theological Perspective (in 3-5 double-spaced pages) Provide a statement that explores your personal perspective on selected theological issues. The statement is not intended as a research assignment but rather a brief credo of your own reflection.
