3 LAST TIME OUT: L (OT) at ATLANTA HAWKS The Hornets dropped to 3-4 this preseason after being defeated by the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena. After rallying to force overtime by outscoring Atlanta in the second half, the Hornets fell to the Hawks, who improved to 3-3 this preseason. Led by 21 points from Gary Neal and a preseason-high 18 points from Cody Zeller, Charlotte had six players score in double figures. Kemba Walker (17), Brian Roberts (14), P.J. Hairston (11) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (10) each reached double figures for the Hornets. Paul Millsap led the Hawks with a team-high 21 points, while Mike Scott came off the bench and finished with 16 points, including 4-6 from behind the three-point line. Kyle Korver (17), Thabo Sefolosha (12), Dennis Schroder (12) and Al Horford (10) also scored in double figures for Atlanta. HORNETS QUICK FACTS Lance Stephenson finished second in voting for the Most Improved Player award after being one of only four players in the NBA to average at least 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists last season. Al Jefferson was the only player in the Eastern Conference and one of only five players in the NBA to average at least 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds last season. Al Jefferson has recorded double-doubles in nine consecutive regular-season games dating back to last season. Gerald Henderson scored in double figures in four of his last five regular-season games dating back to last season. Gary Neal scored in double figures in four of his last five games regular-season dating back to last season. Charlotte led the league in defensive rebound percentage last season, grabbing.776 of the rebounds on their defensive end. Charlotte averaged the fewest turnovers in the NBA last season at 12.3 per game. Charlotte gave up only 97.1 points per game last season, the fourth-lowest average in the NBA. HORNETS NOTES PRESEASON PLAY The Hornets are 3-4 so far this preseason. Gary Neal scored a preseason-high 21 points on Monday night against Atlanta and is averaging 13.4 points this preseason, scoring in double figures in five of the seven games. Kemba Walker has scored in double digits in each of the six games he has appeared in this preseason and is averaging 13.3 points. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 10 points against the Hawks on Monday night and has scored in double figures in four of the last five contests, including one double-double. THE HORNETS ARE BACK On May 20, 2014, the Charlotte Hornets name officially returned to the Carolinas after 12 long years. In addition, all of the statistical information, records and history of Charlotte NBA basketball also returned to the franchise. The Hornets own and have access to all of the historical elements from not only the Bobcats era ( ) but also the classic Hornets era in Charlotte ( ). A DIFFERENT KIND OF DOUBLE-DOUBLE Charlotte recorded 43 wins in the last season, more than doubling its win total. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Charlotte was the first team in NBA history to double its win total from the previous season in two consecutive seasons. OFFSEASON ACQUISITIONS The Hornets made several key additions to the roster during the offseason. During the 2014 NBA Draft, the team selected Noah Vonleh with the ninth overall pick and acquired guard P.J. Hairston, the 26 th overall pick, in a trade. Charlotte also signed free agent guards Lance Stephenson and Brian Roberts and forwards Marvin Williams and Jason Maxiell. In addition, the team re-signed free agent guard Jannero Pargo. NEW FACES ON THE SIDELINE The Hornets added two new members to their coaching staff this summer, bringing in Pat Delany and Steve Hetzel as assistant coaches. Both served as head coaches in the NBA D-League in , Delany with the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Hetzel with the Canton Charge. The duo join Associate Head Coach Patrick Ewing and Assistant Coaches Stephen Silas, Mark Price and Bob Weiss on Head Coach Steve Clifford s coaching staff.

4 LOVIN LAS VEGAS The Hornets finished the 2014 Samsung NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with a 3-4 record, losing their first three games before rattling off three consecutive victories in tournament play to make the semifinals, where they lost to the Houston Rockets. It was Charlotte s second straight appearance in the seminfinals. FINISHING WITH A BANG Charlotte went 8-1 over the final nine regular-season games last season, including a five-game win streak from March 31-April 9. During the ninegame stretch, Charlotte averaged points while allowing only 93.2 points to their opponents. Al Jefferson recorded double-doubles in all nine contests, averaging 23.9 points and 13.9 rebounds. Kemba Walker posted a triple-double and a pair of double-doubles during the stretch and averaged 15.1 points and 8.4 assists. BIG AL S AWARDS SHOW Al Jefferson was named to the All-NBA Third Team in after averaging 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks. Jefferson scored in double figures 69 times, including 45 games with 20 points or more and 13 games with at least 30 points. He recorded 42 double-doubles on the season, including 29 games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jefferson was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month in both March and April 2014, earning monthly honors for the first time in his career and becoming the first center to receive the honor in back-to-back months since Dwight Howard did so in November and December of Jefferson also earned a pair of Eastern Conference Player of the Week awards, receiving the honor for the weeks ending March 16 and April 6. GOOD COMPANY Al Jefferson averaged 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds last season, and was the only player in the Eastern Conference and one of only five players in the NBA to average at least 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. Clifford led Charlotte to a 7-1 record (.875 winning percentage) in April, the best record in the NBA. Charlotte clinched a NBA Playoffs berth with a win at Cleveland on April 5, The 7-1 record in April followed a 6-4 mark in February and a 9-7 record in March. The award was the first for Clifford.
