HORNETS LAUNCH BELIEVE IN BLUE CAMPAIGN The Hornets are teaming up with Chevron and several other corporate and community partners including Rouses Supermarkets, CVS pharmacies, Circle K and Take 5 Oil Change to launch the Believe in Blue campaign which will serve to raise awareness and funds for the residents of communities affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, restore local coastal wetlands and help return the gulf s water back to its original color blue. - One of the initial elements of the campaign will include the sale of blue wristbands that will feature the slogan Believe in Blue. the bands will be sold for $2 starting in early October and will be available at designated partner retailers including the Hornets Nest team store, Chevron locations, Rouses Supermarkets, CVS pharmacies, Circle K and Take 5 Oil Changes. - Both of the Hornets home preseason games will also benefit the Believe in Blue campaign presented by Chevron.For the second home pre-season game vs. Miami Heat on Oct. 13, a portion of the proceeds from all single game ticket sales will be donated to the Believe in Blue campaign presented by Chevron. - The Hornets team will also wear a commemorative version of their blue uniforms with gold pinstripes and a Believe in Blue patch for all home and away games during the month of October and all road games in November. The team will then sell off the autographed game-worn jerseys to help raise money for the campaign. - In addition, the Hornets will host a Tip-Off Charity Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 22 featuring the entire team and coaching staff to celebrate the start of the regular season. All proceeds from the table sales for the event will benefit the Believe in Blue campaign presented by Chevron SEASON NOTES - TEAM A SEASON FULL OF INJURIES The Hornets lost 232 games to injury last season injuries suffered by Chris Paul, Peja Stojakovic, Darius Songaila, Marcus Thornton, James Posey and Darren Collison impacted the season, specifically February and March.. - The Hornets went from five games under.500 to five games over.500 during the period from Nov. 14 to Jan. 27, in which span, Chris Paul missed eight games due to injury. - Chris Paul s right knee injury/surgery caused him to miss the final game in January (at which point, the Hornets were 26-21) since that game, the Hornets have gone In February, the Hornets posted a 5-8 record Paul missed all 13 games, while Songaila missed six games and Thornton missed three. - In March, New Orleans went 4-12 as Stojakovic missed 12 games, Paul missed 11, Posey missed three and Songaila missed one. It is Demps first stint as general manager of an NBA franchise. Demps joined the Spurs at the start of the season as director of pro player personnel and was promoted to Vice President of Basketball Operations in In addition to his duties with the Spurs, Demps was named general manager of the Toros when they were first purchased by the Spurs in June With the Spurs, Demps won an NBA Championship (2007) and two divisional titles (2006, 2009). In each of the last five seasons that he has been with San Antonio, the Spurs have won at least 50 games. Demps had the opportunity to play for Golden State ( ), San Antonio ( ) and Orlando ( ), as well as playing professionally in the Philippines, France, Greece, Turkey, Croatia and Venezuela during his 10-year career. During his professional playing career, each summer he returned to Pacific to take MBA courses. When Demps suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in 1998, he returned to Pacific and completed his MBA. At Pacific, Demps was a four-year starter, earning All-Big West honors three times.
