1 Belfast Dates & Intensive English Course This course consists of 20 hours of tuition per week. Classes are held from to 13.00, Monday to Friday, with a minute break taken halfway through the morning. The minimum age for these courses is 16 and classes have a maximum of 12 students (average 7-8). Students may enrol for as many weeks as they like. The Intensive English Course is offered at all levels, including beginners. Students who already have some knowledge of English may start an Intensive English Course any Monday throughout the year (except public holidays). Beginners can start an Intensive Course on any of the following dates: January: 7, 21 February: 4, 18 March: 3, 18, 31 April: 14, 28 May: 12, 27 June: 9, 23 July: 7, 21 August: 4, 18 September: 1, 15, 29 October: 13, 27 November: 10, 24 December: 8, 22 Please note that there are no lessons on bank or public holidays. When Monday is a holiday, courses commence on the Tuesday. There is no reduction in fees when a course includes a public holiday and classes lost are not compensated for. The following Mondays are public holidays and classes these weeks will therefore start on the Tuesday: March: 17, 24 May: 5, 26 July: 14 August: 25 Please also note that the weeks starting 17th March and 22nd December contain two public holidays and therefore have a special 3-day week price. This course combines an Intensive Course study programme with an additional one hour of supervised self-study each day. This additional hour normally takes place in the school's computer room where, assisted by a teacher, students work with modern, interactive study materials which have been created by a team of experts from International House. Students can work with a wide range of different study materials designed to cater for a variety of linguistic needs and interests. 2 Dates & 2008 Belfast 3. English at Work This programme offers students the opportunity to obtain paid employment following their English language course. Students first take an Intensive English course at the school for 4-12 weeks (depending on their level). During this time we will organise interviews for students with local employment agencies and we will also help students prepare their CVs and practice for their interview. Following their course, students who are offered employment may then work for as many months as wish. Please note that we cannot guarantee job placement as this will depend on the candidate's interviews with the employment agency. We are however able to guarantee an interview with an employment agency and most students who are able to speak English at upper intermediate level (B2) and have one or more other languages, should have no problem finding paid employment. Please also note that pay and conditions of employment vary from company to company. Because of certain legal restrictions, this programme is only open to citizens of the European Union. Not included: Entrance fees and transport for optional social activities programme. 4 week weeks 1, weeks 1, weeks 1, Additional week The Executive Immersion Course This is a five-day English language training programme which features an intensive study day from to and includes: 30 hours of one-to-one tuition per week + working lunch with teachers every day + guided individual project work (students work in the computer room, supervised by a teacher) + use of up-to-date, authentic materials. + optional visits to local companies (arranged on request) + two dinners during the course with teachers. + optional evening cultural programme (to be arranged by agreement). These features combine to produce a course which provides an intensive, personalised language learning experience, enabling the course participant to make real progress in those areas which are most important to the individual concerned, while spending only a short time away from work. Each Executive Immersion course is designed using both a level test and a detailed needs analysis; every course is therefore tailor-made for each individual student. Executive Immersion courses are available at all levels and students can start any Monday throughout the year except public holidays. IH Belfast will offer Executive Immersion Course students Saturday classes as compensation for any classes missed due to a Bank Holiday. 3 Dates & 2008 Belfast 5. Individual Tuition These personalised language courses consist of 3 or more hours of individual tuition per day for one or more weeks.. Students can either study entirely in this way, or, if they prefer, combine an Intensive Group course in the mornings with 1, 2 or more hours of individual tuition in the afternoons. The contents, times and starting dates of these private classes can be arranged to suit the individual student's needs. For example, courses can be designed for people who need to develop negotiating skills, presentation skills, telephone skills, writing skills, etc. We offer individual tuition at all levels from beginners to very advanced. We can also offer similarly tailor-made classes for two students studying together, providing they have similar levels and linguistic needs. Not included: Entrance fees and transport for optional social activities programme. 6. Exam Preparation Courses. 6.1 IELTS Preparation Course. This is a 4-week, 100-hour course designed to help students prepare to take the IELTS exam. The minimum level required to attend the course is upper intermediate (B2). IELTS preparation courses are scheduled to start on the following dates: April: 7 June: 2 August: 4 October: Cambridge Exam Preparation Courses. These courses consist of 20 hours tuition per week for 10 weeks. IH Belfast offers Cambridge exam preparation courses at three levels: First Certificate (FCE), Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE). Students will be advised which level to take on arrival. Course starting dates are as follows: March: 31 September: 29 The exams themselves will be held at the end of the course (starting June and December 6-11). 6.3 TOEIC Preparation Course. This is a 2-week exam preparation course consisting of 20 hours tuition per week. The minimum level required to attend the course is intermediate (B1+). TOEIC preparation courses are scheduled to start on the following dates: January: 21 May: 12 September: 15 November: 17 Please note: Exam fees are not included in the course fees. 4 Dates & Summer Course for Teenagers This course takes place in a private, boarding school with extensive grounds located just outside Belfast. The course includes 3 hours English tuition per day, full-board accommodation either in the school or with local families, airport transfers on arrival and departure and a full and varied programme of supervised activities and excursions. Starting dates: the course runs for 4 weeks from June 30 to July 25. Possible starting dates are therefore as follows: June: 30 (2-4 weeks) July: 7 (2-3 weeks) July: 14 (2 weeks) Please note that students should book flights to arrive on the Sunday before the course starts and depart on the Saturday after the course finishes. The age range for this course is strictly 12 to 16. We can accept students with any level of English including beginners. 8. Extensive English Courses These courses are designed for people living and working in Belfast who need to improve their English language skills. Courses consist of 3 hours tuition per week and are normally held two-evenings per week. Extensive course starting dates are as follows: January: 7 April: 7 October: 6 The course fee is per month. 9. On-line English Courses In collaboration with Net Languages, one of the world's leading online language schools, IH Belfast is able to offer students a wide range of Web-based English courses including courses for adults, teenagers and children. The majority of courses for adults include a personalised tutorial service provided by IH teachers. Students can study at their own pace and at any time that suits them. These courses are the perfect way for students to continue their English studies after they complete their course in Belfast. Custom-Designed Courses for Special, Closed Groups For groups of younger students or for groups of adult students with particular language needs, International House Belfast can design and give "made-to-measure" courses at any time of the year. obviously depend on the nature of the services required, but we will be pleased to send you a quotation for any specific course programme you require. 11. Teacher Training Courses IH Belfast offers a range of courses for teachers of English including an intensive 4-week course leading to the University of Cambridge's CELTA qualification (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). This is the ideal qualification for would-be English teachers hoping to work abroad. CELTA course are scheduled to start on the following dates: March: 31 August: 4 September: 1 November: 3 CELTA course fees: (which includes the University of Cambridge's registration fee). 12. "Almost Free" Practice Lessons for Students Belfast Accommodation in the school Accommodation with Host Family 2 weeks 1, weeks 1, , weeks 1, , English language students taking a 4-week (or longer) Intensive Group course, which coincides with one of our intensive teacher-training courses, may be able to attend the practice lessons which the trainee teachers give during the teacher training course. 5 Belfast Accommodation at International House Belfast 2008 IH Belfast can organise three different types of accommodation for students: 1. Local host families 2. Shared apartments or student houses 3. Hotels and guest houses Please note 1. Accommodation is always provided in single bedrooms (except on our Summer Course for Teenagers) unless a couple request to share. 2. Accommodation is normally provided from the Sunday before the course begins to the Saturday morning after the course ends. If it is impossible to arrange transport to suit these arrival and departure times, please contact us to check that alternative arrangements can be made. Extra nights are usually available on request and on payment of a supplement. Please note that students staying even one extra night will be charged accordingly. 3. Enrolments All individual enrolments should be accompanied by a deposit of which can be paid by credit card, bank transfer or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to International House Belfast Ltd., and sent to the school address. Transfers should be made to our bank account which has the following IBAN number: GB77DABA , (SWIFT code: DABAGB2B) and is held at the Northern Bank, University Road, Belfast BT7 1ND. Please note that any bank charges incurred on payment of the deposit will be added to the balance of the course fee. However we do not charge commission on credit card payments. Enrolment and payment can also be made with complete security from our website: Payment The balance of fees is due on or before the first day of the course. We regret that we cannot accept payment by traveller s cheque. Cancellations Where a cancellation is received 10 days or more before the course is due to start, the deposit is refunded less for expenses. For cancellations received with less than 10 days notice, the deposit is non-refundable. Once the course has started, refunds can only be made in very exceptional circumstances. Airport Transfers There is a frequent bus service from both Belfast airports to the city centre. However, we recommend that young students with no knowledge of English take advantage of our airport meeting and transfer service on arrival. The prices quoted are for transfers from to (arrival time at the airport). If students need a transfer before or after 22.00, these prices will be increased by 25%. Please note that we need the arrival information at least two working days before arrival.
