1 Fall 2012 International Student and Scholar Enrollment & Statistical Report

2 A total of 8562 students from abroad, representing 125 countries and 1102 international faculty and staff representing 75 nations, claim Purdue University as their home this fall semester. The University s total international student enrollment ranks: 2 nd among U.S. public institutions 2 nd in the Big Ten 4 th in the nation (estimated) The international student body comprises 21.8% of the total number of enrolled students. International undergraduate students comprise 16.5% of the total undergraduate body, or 4974 students. A total of 3588 international graduate and professional students represent 39.4% of all students at this level of study. Engineering (25.9%), Health and Human Sciences (12.4%), Science (11.6%), Liberal Arts (11.5%), and Technology (9%) enroll the highest percentages of students from abroad. China ranks first (3934) in total enrollment while India (1309) is second. South Korea (832), Taiwan (266), Malaysia (232), Indonesia (111), Turkey (89), Pakistan (81), Kazakhstan (77), and Canada (72) round out the top ten. China (465), South Korea (122), India (100), Brazil (27), Taiwan (26), Turkey (26), Italy (25), France (21), Japan (21), and Germany (20) send the largest number of international faculty and staff. The majority of international scholars are in engineering (308), agriculture (197), biological and biomedical sciences (106), and physical sciences (104).
