2 Year 1 Art What if we lived in the rainforest? Autumn 1 Looking at rainforest animals children will explore colours pattern texture shape and form. I can make a simple repeat pattern I can create patterns using different types of lines and shapes I can hold a paintbrush correctly and use paint in a controlled way I know the 3 primary colours I can mix primary colours to make secondary colours I can use different shades of one colour I can choose an appropriate size paintbrush I can cut and tear paper and card for my collage I can gather and sort materials I can choose different materials to create different textures I can describe what I can see and like in the work of another artists I can ask sensible questions about a piece of art work Key Artist: Henri Rousseau Key Skills: Drawing, painting, printing, collage and sculpture Outcomes: Snake paintings and prints Mixed media paper plate collage of various animals. tiger, toucans Clay and wikki stick models of insects and bugs. Year 1 Art How can we paint a firework display? Autumn 2 Looking at pictures of fireworks children will experiment and make expressive paintings and drawings using line, colour and texture I can use thick and thin brushes as appropriate I can create mood in my painting I can paint a picture of something I can see I can use a variety of tools to create different marks. I can use a variety of techniques dabbing scraping dripping sponging I can comment on my work and say what I think has worked well Key skills: Painting, mixed media Outcome: Firework paintings
3 Year 2 Whats it like in Africa? Autumn 1 Children will gain knowledge and understanding, experiment and produce a variety of art work inspired by African landscapes, animals, art and culture. I can use lines and shapes to create African style patterns I can use a range of materials to design and make African Jewellery I can weave paper I can mix and blend colours to make an African sunset I can create a silhouette by drawing and painting shapes I can select and explore different art materials to create an African mask I can compare the work of African artists and select my favourite I can say how other artists have used colour pattern and shape I I can make my own art work in the style of Anne Berenge Key Artists Key Skills: Anne Berenge Tinga tinga Various African artists Drawing, Painting, Collage Outcomes. Autumn 2 Children will design their own scary pictures in response to the illustrations and animations they have looked at. I can mix tints and shades of colour using paint I can smudge and blend chalk and oil pastel I can create expression in my artwork I can express my own ideas in my art work I can design and make my own monster Key artists: Various Animations. 4 Year 3 Art What will we find in the Wild Garden? Autumn 1 Children will use the wild garden a starting point to develop art work based on plant structures and the natural world. I can select natural objects and describe what they look like I can draw from first hand observation I can record observations and ideas in my sketchbook I can use a variety of lines in my drawings I can use pencil and charcoal to create different shades I can design and make a poly print I can discuss which prints are successful I can refine and modify my work I can comment on the work of Angie Lewin and make comparisons to my own work Key Artist Angie Lewin Key skills: Drawing, printmaking Outcomes: Sketchbook development looking at natural forms and structures found in the wild garden A series of prints in inspired by the wild garden and the work of Angie Lewin Year 3 Art How can we paint the dark? Autumn 2 Children will develop their own ideas based on book illustrations they have looked at. They will experiment with light and dark to create different effects I can blend and use chalk and oil pastels to create light and dark I can mix and graduate paint colour from light to dark I can develop my own ideas in my sketchbook I know about different book illustrators and I can comment their style Key Artists: Various book illustrators Key skills: Drawing Painting Outcomes: Moonlit haunted house Snow men in the dark
5 Year 4 Art How can we make our drawings move? Autumn 1 Focusing on the human figure children will explore ideas to express movement in their art work. They will explore different ways of being active eg football gymnastics dancing I can draw the human figure using appropriate proportions I can express movement in my drawings I can use my sketchbook purposefully to improve understanding, inform ideas and plan an outcome I can investigate the quality different materials and processes I know about the artist Keith Haring Alberto Giacmetto. And can discuss some the key ideas techniques of these artists. I can produce my own art work inspired by Keith Haring and Giacometti. Key Artist: Keith Haring Alberto Giacometti Key Skills Drawing, painting, sculpture Outcome: Drawing and development work of figures in action A painting drawing or collage inspired by Keith Haring A wire and modrock sculpture inspired by Giacometti. Year 4 Art Who were the impressionists Autumn 2 Children will study the work of the impressionist painters focusing on Monet s paintings of the houses of parliament. (Link to bonfire night.) How could we paint the houses of parliament on the 5 th November? I can experiment with paint techniques I know about the impressionist painters and can recognise their style of painting. I can compare and contrast my own work to the work of other artists I can show expression in my work. Key Artist: Claude Monet Key Skills: Painting Outcome: expressive paintings in the style of the impressionists
6 Year 5 Art Why are bugs so small? Autumn 1 Using insects and bugs as a starting children explore a wide range of different materials to create their own giant bugs. I record and develop ideas in my sketchbook I can show a variety of lines in my drawing to create texture. I can select different pencils to achieve a varying shade I can use charcoal to draw on a large scale I can use charcoal to create texture and shade I can design and create a 3D model I can experiment with different material to create colour pattern texture and Form. I can adapt and refine my work I can evaluate my own work and the work of others and suggest ways to improve Key Artists Key skill: Drawing, sculpture Outcome: Large scale drawings and sculptures of insects and bugs. Year 5 Art What Makes you Scream? Autumn 2 Children will produce their own work in response to the painting the scream by Edward munch and the question what makes you scream? Key Artist: Edvard Munch Key skills: Drawing Painting Collage Outcome: Expressive Drawings and Paintings
7 Year 6 Art How do Mexicans Celebrate? Children will research the Mexican tradition Day Of The Dead. They will focus on the Sugar skull and produce their own work using 2D and 3D media. I can develop a range of ideas which show imagination and originality Key Artists: Mexican art Various Key skills: Drawing, painting, sculpture, collage Outcome: Multimedia 2D sugar skull. 3D clay sugar skull I can investigate, research and test ideas and plans using sketchbooks I can select and effectively user relevant processes to create a successful finished piece of work. Year 6 Art How will my Skeleton Party? Children will research further into Mexican culture, food clothes music and art. They will produce a piece of artwork importing day of the dead skeletons. I can develop a range of ideas which show imagination and originality I can investigate, research and test ideas and plans using sketchbooks Key Art: Mexican Art and culture Key skills: Drawing, Painting, collage, sculpture Outcomes: Figurative skeleton designs incorporating Mexican culture. Wire and mod -rock decorated skeleton sculptures I can evaluate my own and other artists work taking into account the starting point intentions and context behind the work.
