2 Purpose Statement Visual Arts: 6 th 8 th Grade EoC The Visual Arts 6 th 8 th Grade EoC is a summative assessment for a year-long middle school art course that measures student proficiency against a subset of New Mexico Art Content Standards for the Visual Arts Grades. It is a performance-based assessment intended to measure student proficiency in the elements of art and principles of Data from the test may provide valuable information to students, teachers, and administrators and support improvement of art instruction at the middle school level. Intended as a final exam for the year, this is a summative assessment covering a wide range of content, skills, and applications. Scores are reported to the teacher, school, district, and state levels for the purposes of student grades, curriculum review, and the optional use for teacher effectiveness. Preliminary Blueprint The preliminary blueprint identifies the essential course standards and the percent in which the standards and benchmarks are assessed on the EoC. Each standard has been divided into Knowledge (K), Skills (S), and Applications (A) with which students should be familiar. The final blueprint, which will be published in late fall of 2013, will include specification tables identifying the item types by standard, the number of points associated with each item and assessment element, and details on the administration of the performance-based component of the assessment.
