Objectives Vision Roadmap Defining a Virtual Product Creation strategy enabling European Industry to improve their product creation processes to be successful in international market Description of necessary RTD activities for the coming 5-10 years along with a concerted RTD implementation path Slide 4
Goal / Vision of the producing industry Goals of the Automotive & Aerospace industry Reduce time to market Reduce costs (development & manufacturing & maintenance) Increase Safety ( Zero Accident Strategy ) Allow maximum customisation/ individualization of products Increase ecological friendliness (low pollution, low noise,...) Vision on Virtual product creation Complete virtual car/plane Near-physical product simulation Realistic simulation in any situation with complete environment Customer designs the product Intelligent product model Automatic process optimisation Slide 5
Goals / deliverables Strategic roadmap sketching the technical and organisational milestones for Virtual Product Creation for the next 5-10 years Identification of European and global key players in Virtual Product Creation State-of-the-art analysis (including landscape of international organisations, standardisation bodies, consortia, projects, initiatives, with respect to Virtual Product Creation) Business implementation paths and integration scenarios Management best practices (lessons learned from ivip, other projects) Methodologies for progress assessment and benchmarking Slide 6
Areas of investigation 1. Process integration, Technology deployment Process modeling/ simulation Transition from legacy to new technology 2. Technological Infrastructure, Standardization Basic SW to support communication, collaboration, data mgmt. Evaluation of existing and upcoming standards (data+interface) 3. Innovative Applications Identification of new functionality Definition of new tools and applications Slide 7

Content of the 3 parallel sessions The thematic areas (Process, Infrastructure, Applications) were discussed on the basis of 3 scenarios: Session1: A digital master as a central element in the integrated design model of the PLM process (chaired by SIEMENS) Session 2: Beyond geometrical DMU (chaired by Centro Ricerche FIAT) Session 3: Networked enterprise (chaired by EADS CCR) Slide 12
Digital Master Vision A Digital Master is the collection of models and processes for the digital representation of product lifecycles. Requirements: Distributed, collaborative Reproducibility Openness Global Flexible Managing risk Human oriented Traceability Scalable Slide 13
Beyond geometric DMU - ViP in 2020 Stylist, designer, process-planner etc. work in the same environment which adapts to the context for - comprehensive model (flexible, holistic, project oriented) - consistent version management, - multi-level granularity in different product representations - real-time collaboration, - support & document different alternatives, selection of the best and automatic generation of different product representaion and - multi-user, multi-site. The core data model allows the context and view specific access to data an allows the implementation of new technologies and methodologies. Slide 14
