4 A SMART HOME A smart Home where no energy is wasted, where lighting is efficient, where interactive walls are able to display useful information, as well as pictures or art, videos of far-away friends or relatives; A home environment that suits ones needs, whether one is reading a book or watching a movie; where all household appliances talk to each other and help solving problems, instead of creating new ones. 4

5 AN INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM An intelligent Transport system where public transport and traffic flow is seamless, where private and public vehicles interact, choose the best path avoiding congestion and preserving the environment, and where multimodal transport is smooth and easy; where parking is not a problem any longer and where alternative means of transport are convenient. 5

6 A PRODUCTIVE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT A productive Business environment where offices become smart and interactive and where factories relay production related data in real-time; where remote face-to face meetings are established through holograms, where documents are no longer just paper, but are fully integrated in the work flow, can be traced and automatically linked with additional online information. 6

7 AN EFFICIENT LOGISTICS AND RETAIL ENVIRONMENT An efficient Logistics and Retail environment where safety and environmental concerns are ubiquitously embedded in all the processes; consumers are supported to have a healthy and convenient shopping experience; where traceability of products is a given standard with access to all relevant product information including quality and sustainability measures. 7

8 A SAFE HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM A safe Health-Monitoring system, always connected, making use of non-intrusive techniques such as sweat and breath analysis, preventing serious illnesses by adapting the environment and by selecting appropriate drugs and diet; where fitness is tailored to one s needs automatically in order to achieve the desired target without injuries and in accordance with one s mood and environment. 8

16 Means of implementation 1. Setting up of an architectural reference model for the interoperability of Internet-of-Things systems, 2. Outlining principles and guidelines for the technical design of its protocols, interfaces, and algorithms 3. 17 Means of implementation 4. Providing a protocol suite based on open protocols centred around a narrow waste 5. Defining a novel resolution infrastructure, allowing scalable look up and discovery of Internet-of-Things resources, entities of the real world, and their associations; 6.
