2 Project Information Title: Project Number: Project Type: Year: 2012 Status: Marketing Text: ATTP: Adapting a Transparent Training Program for wind energy DK1-LEO Transfer of Innovation granted DK-Denmark The qualifications for servicing a wind turbine are basically the same across Europe, but on the other hand the educational background differs quite a lot today. In this project we have made an international standard for vocational training in Wind turbine servicing. Summary: There are three main aims for this project: 1) To make it easier for new workers to enter the European Wind Industry. 2) To make it easier for the (global) wind energy production companies to get qualified staff for installation and maintenance of the wind turbines. : Themes: Sectors: Product Types: Product information: Projecthomepage: 3) To make the employment procedures more efficient. Lots of new wind power plants are being planned and constructed. Companies across Europe have realized that it is already difficult to get qualified vocational labour for maintenance and repair and wind turbines! This will be approved with a certificate. The recruiting companies/people will then have an European framework for recruiting to the industry, and they will also have an easy path to upgrade a skilled worker for the industry across Europe. 2

9 Product 'ATTP Final Standards' ATTP: Adapting a Transparent Training Program for wind energy ( DK1-LEO ) Title: ATTP Final Standards Product Type: modules Marketing Text: The final standards made by the ATTP project for technicians in order to maintain wind turbines on shore and off shore. These are modules to use for basic training of wind turbine technicians. Global Wind Organisation (GWO) has received a copy of the final standards from the ATTP project. : The modules are written in 3 different categories: - Basic Electric - Basic Hydraulic - Basic Mechanic These all contain: - The written standard - Blooms taxonomy verbs used to define the verbs in the standard - A written test to use for the module - A checklist for learning outcomes for each module. Target group: The modules/ Standards are targeted Wind production and maintenance companies and organizations. political and educational organizations, VET providers and students. Result: Innovative education and training modules. Area of application: To upgrade skilled and unskilled people so they are able to maintain wind turbines. 12 Events ATTP Conference in Randers, Denmark. Date Renewable energy such as wind power is foreseen to play a major role in tackling the twin challenge of global warming and energy security. Lots of new wind power plants are being planned and constructed, but it is already difficult to get qualified labour for maintenance of the wind turbines. At the same time many of the first onshore wind turbines are getting older and older, with a growing need for maintenance and repair. A recognized and transparent training program across Europe will help solving the problem about the need for qualified labour - and this is exactly the challenge we have set up in the EU -project ATTP (Adapting a Transparent Training Program for wind energy). At the conference the 24th of April we have engaged with a number of experts in the area of maintenance of wind turbines, getting different input of what s needed for a unified training program. And at the same time we would like to present our ideas and work so far in the ATTP project. The main target audience was the experts and the major role players in the wind industry. The experts was positive about our ideas, and wanted to take part in the project, by providing us with private Intel from their companies. This can help us full fill, the projects purpose. 12

13 Events EUSEW 2013 Date Presentation of the ATTP project in connection with the AIRE project during the EUSEW 2013 at the Spanish Embassy in Brussels (education department). The success story of reneable energy (especially wind and solar power) has marked a skills gap among the work force in the European Union. In vocational training there are the first professions being trained, but there are by far not enough skilled workers available in order to fulfill the demand on the labour market. In the AIRE project, we defined the minimum learning outcomes necessary for a European certificate on knowledge, skills and competences for wind and solar poer on EQF levels 3, 4 and 5. In the AIRE EQF 2 project, we also developed standards for disadvantaged youths in order to prepare them for vocational training for renewable enrgies. The motivation for the youngsters in pre-vocational training incentive is a European Solar Toy Car Parade. They build their cars for the parades and at the same time they train all 8 of the the European key competences. In the ATTP project, we design modules in order to upskill car mechanics and electricians in order to become technicians for wind power. The main objectives are to develop a vocational training program for adults, which is recognized and transparent - and to have a pilot try-out of the program. We will ensure the transparency and recognition among the partners and we will define a certificate to approve it. Afterwards this will enable many other bodies to adapt and install the training program. The recruiting companies/people will then have an European framework for recruiting to the industry, and they will also have an easy path to upgrade a skilled worker for the industry across Europe. The EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) and the companies are very interested in the skilled workers that will be trained according to the ATTP standards also creating new GWO standards for training wind specialists.
