21 Subjects for the CPMR to encourage the EU Climate change and sustainable energy to be a core focus in the review of the EU budget - e.g. the use of the European structural funds. Urge the European Commission to take a leading role in the work towards a new international protocol in the post-kyoto period from 2012, where the EU should set a good example in the battle against climate change. 21

22 Subjects for the CPMR to encourage the EU Recognize that maritime an peripheral regions are some of the greatest potential producers of renewable energy, but have to face that there are major problems in transmitting any surplus energy to the more densely populated areas because of lacking infrastructure. Facilitating opening and offering financial resources for energy saving agencies especially in the new member states. 22

23 Copenhagen 2009: World summit to follow up on the Kyoto protocol We hope for a binding world wide agreement on the efforts to meet the challenges of the foreseen near future climate changes. In Central Denmark Region we will do our utmost to act as a window in promoting sustainable technologies and renewable energies in order to reach the agreeable goals. 23
