2 Project Information Title: Project Number: Project Type: Year: 2009 Status: Country: Marketing Text: Summary: In-CLASS: International Communication and Language Assessment RO-LEO Transfer of Innovation granted RO-Romania In-CLASS aims to enhance the competitiveness of international SMEs within the partner countries by assisting them to identify language and culture barriers which arise from crossborder trade, and/or the development of a multilingual workforce, and to find specific costed solutions to address communication difficulties by the provision of an effective communication audit scheme for SMEs. To build on, and extend, the success of the earlier Protocol 1, 2, EURICA and ECLAT Projects. In-CLASS responds to the Transfer of Innovation criteria according to the general and operational objectives including Priority 2 by transferring, developing and implementing a new type of European professional: the language auditor specialising in export communication for SMEs in Romania and Italy,where no such scheme exists and updating and enhancing the scheme in Hungary. The introduction of a unique training programme and setting up of a new workforce by means of introducing strict selection criteria being undertaken by skilled and experienced trainers within the European Quality Assurance Reference Framework will both support the participants in their training and help them acquire an innovative approach to personal development whilst increasing their employability and extend the network of European LCA auditors. The LCA auditor represents a new type of expert, with the means and skills to increase activity in the intra-european cross border market and as such is a fresh approach in the vocational sector to be adopted by institutions, regional development agencies and other VET focused organisations. Through audits aimed at increasing an SME's export trade and by introducing an innovative approach in addressing each participating country's particular foreign language and intercultural gaps in the SME sector whilst building up a European network of auditors with the help of online tools, facilities and resource documents, cooperation between enterprises, social partners and SMEs will also increase. The introduction and training of the LCA auditor is crucial in strengthening the cooperative aspect of the project and in increasing the shared experience of the European network of consultants. Thus sustainability can be confirmed and increased. Description: The main objectives and activities of the project are: to pilot a European communication audit and auditor training scheme based on models developed in the PROTOCOL, Eurica and ECLAT projects. to develop full sets of Communication auditor training materials, based on the work of the Protocol Projects (copyrighted to Semantica Ltd which developed the Scheme materials and processes) in the project partner languages. to implement the new training materials, revised audit framework and a model training scheme (following a common European code of practice; quality assurance procedures; guidelines; terms of reference; standard information developed in Eurica and ECLAT) for the training of consultants and language auditors to undertake 'Language and Communication Audits' (LCAs) in SMEs with the objective of improving companies' competitiveness and entrepreneurship in other markets. The project adopts a sectoral approach by concentrating on the needs of export companies (SMEs): To pilot audit schemes for SMEs in the partner countries To implement a training programme with an e-learning component for language auditors in the partner countries and in their languages (including English) To develop practical materials adapted for each country s particular environment for the Auditor training workshops To identify sponsors and/or a self-financing system and to promote the Language Audit concept through the scheme To establish a website for the exchange of information in the partner languages To ensure all previous experience in UK is disseminated throughout partnership by 2
