The interviews Dimple Skilton CREDIT MANAGER My Caring Homes Group Life I began my career at Caring Homes Group in October 2007 as Credit Manager and was challenged with creating processes and procedures for the invoicing and debt collection for the company. This gave me the opportunity to learn how to project manage by implementing a new system throughout the company. During this time I have also built two teams within my department who are experts in invoicing, contracts and cash collection with councils and individuals. Why Caring Homes Group? Caring Homes Group believe in developing their colleagues, they actively encourage different styles of working and adopt new ideas. Progression within the business is positively encouraged and with the company believing in moving the business forward it brings new challenges and opportunities. What does it take? Like any job, working for the Caring Homes Group takes commitment. I believe in what we do, why we do it and I can see how my role impacts the business. 4
Sharon McRobbie SERVICE MANAGER, GRETTON HOUSE My Consensus Life I have worked at Gretton House since 1990, initially employed as a Support Worker, then gradually covering roles such as Team leader, Care Manager and Senior Care Manager over a 9 year period. In 1999 I was promoted to Registered Service Manager. Why Consensus? When Consensus, a division of the Caring Homes Group, took over Gretton Homes Group in 2006 it was a massive change being part of a large care provider. The transition has helped me develop and learn more about the world that is health and social care as well as getting used to new systems. The company demonstrates support and development opportunities for colleagues and encourages them to take these to further their career and personal development. What does it take? Passion, commitment, honesty, casting a happy positive leadership shadow and appreciating every person in the team who contribute to the bigger picture is key. I could not do my job without the large committed team at the Service who all work hard to demonstrate the Consensus Values and make a difference to the people we support. 5
Mark Whiteley OPERATIONS MANAGER, EAST ANGLIA 1 My Consensus Life I joined the Consensus division of the Caring Homes Group in 2014 as a Service Manager, after a year I was appointed to the role of Operations Manager. My current position is both enjoyable and challenging. I feel privileged in having the opportunity to meet and work with so many highly skilled and professional individuals on a daily basis. Why Consensus? Consensus is a top provider of Support for individuals with varying needs. I always strive to provide the best possible support based on my personal values and those of Consensus. I believe that I work in an organisation with the same passion and drive as myself to make a difference. What does it take? I am passionate about supporting people to achieve their ambitions in life and committed to supporting teams and individuals to develop and grow professionally. Attending The Future Leaders Programme has made me feel valued and part of the organisation. 6
Karen Tolton SERVICE MANGER, SMUGGLERS BARN & LITTLE SMUGGLERS My Consensus I have worked for Consensus since My first role was as a Support Worker but was supported to develop and become a Registered Service Manager in I have recently completed my QCF Level 5 and the Future Leaders Programme and appreciate the encouragement that the business has given me. Why Consensus? I genuinely enjoy working for Consensus and being involved in the wider Caring Homes Group. I appreciate being given opportunities to develop my knowledge, skills and being involved in other aspects of the business. Consensus have a great commitment to training and developing their colleagues. The Future Leaders Programme has inspired me and I feel positive about how I contribute to the business. What does it take? I believe it takes commitment and belief in the company s vision and values; as well as hard work! 7
Leigh Miller SERVICE MANAGER WEST END OPPORTUNITIES CENTRE My Consensus Life My career with Consensus began as a support worker. I have been supported and encouraged with my development, having held various roles including; Senior Support Worker, Deputy Manager and now work at West End Opportunities Day Service as Service Manager. I have successfully completed my QCF Level 5 and was given the opportunity to complete the Future Leaders Programme. 8 I would recommend the Future Leaders Programme to anyone who has the opportunity to attend as I have gained do much from it Why Consensus? The Caring Homes Group acquired West End Opportunities Day Service in 2008, so I guess they inherited me. It was a major leap into the unknown to become part of such a big group as the previous business was small, however, I am grateful that we joined a wider group because I believe that I would not have been given the opportunity to grow and to subsequently progress into the different roles that have opened up to me. Consensus has given me the training and encouragement to develop, step out of my comfort zone and have grown into the Manager I am today. I have felt supported by Consensus and am grateful for the opportunities to enhance my knowledge and confidence within my ever expanding job role. What does it take? I believe it is essential to be open and honest and remember that you are part of a team. Having belief in the Consensus Values and a strong commitment to being focused on the individuals we support is something that drives me to be the best Service Manager I can be.
Samantha Marshall PLACEMENT MANAGER My Consensus Having previously worked in a further education setting, I joined Consensus in2008 as a Deputy Manager within a brand new development. Over the following years I progressed from Deputy Manager to Service Manager and I left my original Service to manage another later returning to be the Service Manager at the Service where it all began. In 2015 I was given a great opportunity and moved from an operational role to take up a new position as Placements Manager within the Development Team. Why Consensus? I enjoy working as part of a supportive team and being encouraged to grow and develop. I have been given numerous opportunities to expand my personal development over my time with the organisation. When I joined the business I was delighted to find Consensus Values, Person Centred and Active Support were at the heart of the organisation putting the Individuals we Support at the centre of everything we do. What does it take? I originally came to social care because I was saddened to see young people moving on into Adult Services and losing themselves in a sea of Care and I wanted to make a difference! I believe my journey is testament to how much Consensus values its colleagues and invests in their Personal Development, which in turn enables us to undertake our crucial roles to the best of our abilities and ultimately make that difference! I couldn t do my job if I didn t believe in Consensus. 9
