2 AHA Admin Changes The 2013 AHA / ERTSS Instructor Updates are administrative. The are no CPR AED standard changes. Continue teaching with the same materials. The following presentation is a review of the administrative changes with AHA.

3 Instructor Certification Teach 4 classes in a 2 year Recert Cycle Instructor Cards Issue date for recert cycle is June 1st of odd number year. Recommended renewal date is June of following odd number year. Example: Issue date June 1, Renewal date June Your card is valid for the complete month of June. Expires July 1 Attend instructor updates as required

5 All Instructors are required to join the AHA Instructor Network. If you haven't already done so, go to Create user account You will be placed in a pending status. ERTSS will approve you when this is complete. We cannot issue your new instructor card or issue any student cards for courses you teach without your Instructor ID number.

6 *TC must print TC info on cards going to TS Training Centers must now print the basic TC info on the back of all certification cards before they can be released to Training Sites. Training Sites can then print the student name, date, instructor name & ID number.

7 *Cards must be typed or stamped. No hand written cards. All certification cards must be printed, typed or stamped. Certification cards cannot be hand written.

8 *Instructor ID # must be printed on Cards. The Instructor's ID number must appear beside the instructor's name on all certification cards.

9 *New PDF Template available for TS There is a new PDF template available to Training Sites to print certification cards. ERTSS to receive the template Please read the printing tips and use the sample test card sheets before printing on real cards.

10 *Student Card Timeline changed from 30 day to 20 days All certification cards should be in the students hands within 20 days of the course completion. To meet this requirement, course rosters must be forwarded to the Training Center ASAP. We cannot print cards until we have the course roster.

11 Student Textbooks AHA has student textbooks for each of their courses. Be sure students have access to a textbook. If you are not providing the textbook as part of the tuition, be sure the student is aware before the class date. Provide the student with information of where they can obtain/ purchase so they can bring it to class.

12 AHA Exam security! Be sure to maintain the integrity of all AHA exams. Never let students take the exam booklet or answer sheet out of the classroom. Students should not have cell phones out during the exam process! They are taking pictures of the exam.

13 Written Exams Currently using HCP versions C and D There are optional Heartsaver exams available to use as needed. ERTSS to request the exams. Once you have them...keep them secure. Passing score on ALL AHA Written Exams is 84.

14 Online Courses for AHA at All AHA certification courses can also be taken as an Online Course. Once all requirements have been completed online, student prints Part 1 certificate. Part 2: skills practice session with manikin. Part 3: Skills check off. Instructor uses same check sheet as the classroom course check off.

15 Part 1: Cognitive / Online Course Go to Select the appropriate course. Purchase program or enter license code Complete all the Online Course requirements. Print part 1 certificate. Must present Part 1 Certificate at time of check off.

16 Part 2: Skills practice The student participates in a practice session with a manikin and the check sheets. The course video PWW sessions can also be used to help the student practice as needed.

17 Part 3: Skills check off After adequate practice time, the student completes a skills check off session with an AHA Instructor. The instructor remediates with the student as needed. The student must successfully complete the skills check off to receive a certification card.

18 Skills Check Offs Student must present the Part 1 Certificate before completing Parts 2 & 3 Must be completed within 60 days of activating the program

19 Complete a course roster and check Online Course section. Complete a Course Roster Student receives a valid AHA Certification Card. The instructor gets credit for teaching a course.

20 Online Program serves as the student Textbook The student has access to the Online Program content for 2 full years. This serves as the student textbook.

22 Coming Soon Pediatric Heartsaver 1st Aid DVD - July Digital Textbooks - Summer Digital Certification ECards- ERTSS will pilot this program this summer.

23 ERTSS The following slides are ERTSS TC specific.

24 Course Roster: New Course Roster that includes a student signature line. Added 2nd Exam Score section Added "EC" exam challenge option for HCP, ACLC and PALS. Can be downloaded from the ERTSS Website.

25 Course Roster has to be completed at the time of the Course. The course Roster should be completed at the time of the course. Have students clearly print their name. Have students sign the course roster.

26 If using Online Roster- Keep original on file and available If you are using our Online Roster, keep original roster for your records. AHA Requires course rosters be kept for 3 years.

27 Please proof read before submitting to TC for: Proof read all you course rosters before submission. Be sure all information is accurate Be sure all information is clear and easy to read.

28 Exam Scores are required for HCP/ ACLS/PALS/PEARS Place exam scores on course roster in the appropriate section. Remember, Heartsaver Written Exams are optional, but if used, passing score is 84 and must be documented on the course roster.

29 Certification Card Processing: We strive for a 1-2 business day process time for all course rosters. Factors that impact this are volume, accuracy and time the roster is submitted. Submit the course roster information ASAP. Remember we want to get the certification card to the student within 20 days of the course.

30 Instructor Picture ID Cards Available $12 each We have the ability to create picture ID cards for all our affiliated instructors. Includes photo, credentials as an AHA Instructor, Instructor ID #, clip or lanyard. Does not serve as the Instructor Certification Card.

31 Ga High School Student CPR /AED - SB 212 Requires that all High School students 9-12 grades received CPR-AED instruction Does Not require certification Does Not require teachers become CPR Instructors. Goes into effect July 1st 2013 for the 2013/2014 school year.
