2 Cattle: Official ONLY if applied prior to March 11, 2015 USA and Manufacturer Coded 900 Series Tags 982 RFID tag and visual tag matched set with built-in herd management number This tag should be recorded on the CVI as Official ONLY if applied prior to March 11, RFID tag Official ONLY if applied prior to March 11, 2015 AIN tag with truncated number. The zeroes that would have made this a 15- digit number have been omitted from this tag. Official ONLY if applied prior to March 11, 2015 This tag should be recorded on the CVI as: USA FAIR tag with truncated number, distributed by the Holstein Association. The zeroes that would have made this a 15-digit number have been omitted from the tag. Official ONLY if applied prior to March 11, 2015 This tag should be recorded on the CVI as: USA FAIR tag with truncated number, distributed by the Holstein Association. The zeroes that would have made this a 15-digit number have been omitted from the tag. Official ONLY if applied prior to March 11, 2015 This tag should be recorded on the CVI as: USA
Cattle Official Identification of Animals on CVIs Official for animals born in Canada ( 124 tags) 3 ALL cattle born in Canada will have a 15 digit RFID tag that begins with the numbers 124 If an animal loses its 124 tag, it should NEVER be replaced with an 840 tag. NOT Official SL tags Green slaughter tags are for slaughter imports to NY livestock markets or for diseased animals JVNY tags (red) Johne s vaccinates NOT official; an official ear tag must be applied and recorded on the CVI Are these tags official even with registration papers? NO The animal still needs a NUES or 840 tag.
4 Swine: USDA Approved Official Eartags PIN (Premise Identification Number) Tags Breeders are encouraged to utilize PIN tags. These tags have the producers Federal Premises Identification Number (PIN) or State issued Location Identification Number (LID). If the tag also contain a preprinted producer s livestock production number as in the above example, then this tag is official for interstate movement of individual animals If the tag has a blank area for the producer to write in a production number, then the tag may be used for movement directly to slaughter, but it is not official for other interstate movement. 840 tags For US-born swine only. See examples in Cattle section. NUES tags Metal or plastic. See examples in Cattle section Grandfathered in: Manufacturer Coded 900 Series Tags If applied to swine prior to March 11,2015. See examples in cattle section. 124 tags for swine born in Canada The tags will be yellow, white, or pink and in one of the following approved shapes: Ear Notches are NOT Official Identification for NY Fairs and Shows! An Official Ear Tag must be applied and recorded on the CVI. Ear notches and tattoos may be official for interstate movement IF the notches and/ or tattoos are also recorded in breed registry papers that accompany the animal. Make my ID official; put a tag, not a notch, in my ear
5 Sheep & Goats: Official Identification USDA Approved Scrapie Tags White - applied to sheep/goats that meet the requirements to move for any purpose. XX represents the state postal code Electronic ID if the flock is enrolled in the Scrapie Flock Certification Program Button tags applied by producer can come in many colors/styles. As long as the tag begins with two-letter state postal code (NY,VT,PA) or has a 15-digit 840 number and an imprint of a US shield, it is considered official. Blue Slaughter Only / MEAT Tags may be applied to animal when flock of origin is unknown, these animals cannot be sold for breeding, feeding or exhibition purposes.
6 Sheep and Goats: Official Identification Official Tattoos Legible official registry tattoos that have been recorded in a sheep or goat industry association s book of record may be used when the animal is accompanied by a registration certificate. Legible USDA assigned flock ID tattooed in one ear and up to four numbers or letters (each animal unique) in the other ear, or tail web if a LaMancha type goat. Producers may also purchase 840 tags without flock identification numbers. See cattle for examples.
7 Horses: A complete written description on the CVI which matches the EIA test record is sufficient. Tattoos and microchips, if any, should be included. Horse sketches (on the EIA test record) and descriptions should reference color pattern, hair whorls, chestnuts, scars, and other markings as necessary to uniquely identify the horse. Bay, no markings is not an acceptable description for a CVI or an EIA test record. An electronic CVI is ideal because it can incorporate digital photographs as well as EIA test results and vaccination history. More information is available at GlobalVetLink: Poultry: Identification devices or methods approved for use in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), such as sealed and numbered leg bands or wing bands. Leg bands Wing band
8 Camelids: Camelids are not covered by the federal rule. However these are the identification requirements that must be met for exhibition in NY Fairs and Shows. Ear Tags: See Options for Cattle Microchips OR 1. ISO-compliant 840 chips with 15 digits 2. Non-ISO compliant manufacturer-coded chips Cervidae: Requirements for deer and elk are the same as for camelids with the following additional requirements: 1. Cervidae must have an official ear tag AND a second unique and approved form of identification. Before applying devices to cervidae, please contact the department for guidance. 2. A movement permit must be requested by the owner from NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets prior to any movement (importation, exportation, or intrastate) of cervids.
