2 Welcome to Anatomy and Physiology I. This course covers a large amount of material in a short period of time. You are encouraged to study some of the material each day. This term is extremely important because you will be continually asked to refer back to learning from this term (terminology, chemistry, cell physiology, and tissues) in the subsequent terms. The best way to succeed in this course is to come to lecture everyday. Studying with your classmates and making flashcards will also help with your success. Lecture outlines will be available on the internet at the following website: Academic Honesty: All lecture and laboratory quizzes, midterms, and finals are closed book. No dictionaries, lists, calculators, or texts are allowed. No student collaboration or talking allowed. Cheating will result in a zero on that assignment. Texts: Lecture: Martini, Frederic H. Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology, 8 th ed. Benjamin Cummings, Inc Lab Manual: Marieb. Human Anatomy and Physiology Lab Manual, 9 th ed. Recommended: A&P flashcards or coloring book Grading: Lecture: 60% Lab: 40% Lecture: 3 exams (multiple choice and short answer) Each exam is worth 20%. Lab: 2 lab practicums-15% each 4 lab quizzes-2.5% each Quizzes: During the course of the term, there will be 5 quizzes given during lab. They will cover material from the previous week s lab and are intended to help you keep up with the material. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. There will be NO make-up quizzes. There are no make-up labs. Absence from lab affects your lab grade as follows: More than 1 absence: grade not better than C More than 2 absences: grade not better than D More than 3 absences: fail to pass the lab o extra credit is available at any time.
3 Makeup exams will not be given except for documented unforeseen extenuating circumstances. Family vacation is not a reason to miss a test in this class. The following will be used to determine the final course grade: % A 80-89% B 70-79% C 60-69% D below 60% F Other Grading Options It is your responsibility to learn the consequences of various grading options for your GPA, financial aid, and career planning. You are responsible for knowing PCC s dates for Withdrawal, Audit, and Pass/No Pass. Audit: Week 3 Pass/No Pass: Week 8 Withdrawal: Week 8 Attendance Lecture exam material is drawn from my lectures. There is a strong correlation between good attendance in my class and good grades. I do not provide lecture review sheets before exams. Your lecture outlines are a guide for the material you are responsible for. Please feel free to ask any questions or contact me if you need help with the material. Please turn off all cell phones and pagers during lecture and lab. otice: If you are entitled to instructional accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, please notify me as early as possible in the term. The Office for Students with Disabilities can help. Their telephone number is
