1 Anatomy and Physiology - APNP 112 Access to Practical Nursing Program Course Outline COURSE IMPLEMENTATION DATE: September 2008 OUTLINE EFFECTIVE DATE: September 2009 COURSE OUTLINE REVIEW DATE: August 2014 GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this course, using healthcare terminology, anatomy (the structure) and physiology (the function) of the human body is studied. Knowledge of A&P is fundamental to the most basic care Practical Nurses provide to their clients. This course builds upon knowledge gained in RCA training and provides a profile of the body systems and related health promotion strategies. Program Information: This course is one of 6 courses offered in the first semester of the Access to Practical Nursing program. Satisfactory completion of each of these courses must be achieved in order to progress to the next level of the program. Levels of Organization Examine the cells, tissues and basic functions of life The Integumentary System Examine the skin and related health promotion strategies The muscular & Skeletal Systems Examine the muscular system and the skeleton and health promotion strategies. Blood, the Heart and the Vascular System Examine the cardiovascular system and health promotion strategies. 5 EXAM POLICY Students must attend all required scheduled exams that make up a final grade at the appointed time and place. Individual instructors may accommodate for illness or personal crisis. Additional accommodation will not be made unless a written request is sent to and approved by the appropriate Department Head prior to the scheduled exam. Any student who misses a scheduled exam without approval will be given a grade of 0 for the exam.
