2 Principal s News Parents: Thank you for sending your students to St. Joseph s Catholic School! On the last day of school, we had a beautiful celebration of our year. Students led the school through two decades of a rosary, and there were balloons to create a visual prayer experience for all students. Then, each class shared highlights from their year. I wish we had room for every parent to attend our celebration. There was no doubt that every student learned and grew and had a fabulous year! I will be out of the office from June 17-August 1, Preparations have already occurred to make sure we have an excellent start of the school year. A detailed calendar is included in this mailing. Please mark your calendars to join us for the following: Wednesday, Aug p.m. Supply drop-off/tour the classroom Thursday, Aug a.m.-3 p.m. First full day of school grades 1-8 Sunday, Aug p.m. Mass at St. John s Cathedral (please me if your student wants to be involved in the Mass--reading, bringing gifts, etc.) Sunday, Aug p.m. Back to School Social (hot dogs, salad, fruit, social opportunities) Monday, Aug a.m. Kindergartners start school! Wednesday, Aug p.m. Back to School Night (parents only: information about classroom policies and expectations) The handbook is attached to the mailing. Please take time to read through it and understand the expectations of both parents and students at St. Joseph s Catholic School. Our goal is to continue to improve and your investment in this process is important. As principal of St. Joseph s Catholic School, I have two primary goals: 1. safety 2. student learning When a decision or opportunity is presented to me, I always run it through these two goals. We have 400 students, 37 staff members, over 500 parents, and countless community members that are invested in our school. With those goals in mind, I want to share some thoughts about next year: 1. It is important for parents to stay informed by reading the newsletters/principal s blog, classroom s. These communications are meant to keep parents informed of activities within the school and form an important home-school connection. 2. We have a uniform at St. Joseph s Catholic School. There are no changes to the uniform policy, but it is important for all families to follow the same rules. Land s End is now providing the items with our school logo on it. Other items (i.e. pants, skirts) are available for purchase at many locations in Boise. As you are shopping for next school year, please remember that shoes: should be sturdy and safe. No sandals, boots, or flip-flops. Solid color black, brown, red, navy, gray, or white shoes are required. Athletic shoes are acceptable any day but are required on P.E. days. There are many places to buy shoes within dress code, but I have been able to find many affordable pairs within those colors at the Nike outlet. Socks: should not have stripes or other designs. Skirts: no shorter than 3 above the knee. Jeans: no rips, tears, embroidery, hardware, faded blue, washed-out blue or any other color of blue, ill fitting or skinny jeans (slim-fit, snug-fit with tapered legs). 3. Students in middle school must maintain a 2.0 (C) or above academic average in all subjects with no failing grades in order to be eligible for participating in school-sponsored athletic teams and extracurricular activities (including McCall Outdoor Science School for 6th grade).

3 4. Deliveries have become an issue for the school. Countless Jimmy John and other delivery personnel are ringing our school doorbell each day, and it is a safety issue as well as an issue of time. It is fine for parents to bring lunch to their student on a special day, but please be considerate about not ordering food and items to be delivered to the school was a great year, and I anticipate that we will work to fulfill our mission even more next year: St. Joseph s Catholic School seeks to provide all children with an opportunity to develop spiritually, academically, morally, emotionally, and physically, in an environment of Christ-centered attitudes and values. Staff and parents are committed to preparing students to take their place in their own community and the world at-large by fostering a love for lifelong learning and a responsibility to others. (Without any change to the rewards you currently earn) Don t have a Rewards Card? Applications for Rewards Cards are available at all registers or the Customer Service Desk at any Fred Meyer store. The next school year will bring our Box Top Collection Contest with great prizes for the class that collects the most box tops. Start your collection now! Check your drawers and pantries you ll be amazed at how many box tops you have hiding around the house. Box of Kleenix? Box top! Box of Cheerios? Box top! Can of Progresso Soup? Box top! 5 Fall Used Uniform Sale Plan to stop by the Fall Used Uniform Sale the week BEFORE school starts and stock up on uniform pieces at prices. All clothing is in quality condition at a fraction of price of new items. great the SALE DATES: Monday, August 8 Monday, August 15 Used Uniform Sales are held 2-3 times each year to offer parents an easy and cost effective way to find needed uniform pieces. The money raised from these sales is an important part of the HSA budget and pledge used to fund school operations. You can also drop off any clothing donations in the office during the sale. New Uniform Vender Lands End Land's End has good quality products, their prices are reasonable, and they are convenient (items can be returned at Sears). The uniform policy has not changed; just the vendor has changed. Please see attached instructions. We have a very limited inventory available in the office that will sell out soon, so please take advantage of our new vendor ordering system for as many of your uniform needs as possible.
