1 Geothermal Energy Environment Friendly Energy

2 Business plan Energeotek extracts clean and renewable geothermal energy in order to produce electricity and heat, used for district heating and cooling by constructing geothermal power plants. Geothermal energy Geothermal energy is the energy present in the soil. The center of the earth is very hot, this heat is conducted towards the earth's surface through water in the ground. The deeper you drill into the ground, the warmer it becomes, if you drill far enough, you can get hot water that are several hundred degrees. The hot water can then be used for energy recovery in a geothermal power plant and thus produce electricity and hot water for district heating and cooling. The better alternative Geothermal energy is an inexhaustible and environmentally friendly energy source. The technique can be applied anywhere on earth. Production of electricity and heat is continuous throughout the day, all year round unlike for example wind power, that only produces electricity when the wind blows. As the oil reserves diminishes we need alternative renewable energy sources as a replacement. All oil production in the world falls annually, oil will be available commercially for about 20 years but not at today's prices, coal extraction is not a good idea environmentally. Carbon stocks last for about 100 years, uranium will last for 20 years. It is a fact that we need to change to renewable energy sources as soon as possible in order to be able to meet the energy demand. A geothermal plant uses 1/9:th of the area as a coal power plant and blends into the environment. A win-win situation By using modern technology the energy production is safe and enviroment friendly with no pollution. Common with other traditional power plants that run on fossil fuels, construction cost is high but lower than for a conventional coal plant with carbon dioxide trap. The payback time for a geothermal power plant of 2 MW is short about 6 years, this depends on size MW and price of sold energy kwh. Due to up scaling effect, every installed MW costs less for a larger power plant. Life expectancy is at least 100 years.

3 Geothermal energy production The principle is very simple, the ground becomes warmer the closer to the earth's center we come. By drilling two deep holes (wells) of about 2-6 km, you can bring up hot water from hundred to several hundred degrees, the temperature depends primarily on the depth. Drill depth depends on geological conditions, in Hungary it is enough with 2 km deep bore holes to achieve economically interesting water temperatures ( C). Equivalent depths in Sweden are 5 km. When the hot water around ( C) reaches the surface and is lead into the geothermal plant it gets heat exchanged against a secondary heat carrier with lower boiling point than water (Binary Cycle Technology), the heat transfers the liquid into steam. The steam drives a turbine which generates electricity, the hot water is used for district heating and district cooling. Geothermal Power plant Hot water UP The ground gets hotter closer to earths center. Cooled return water DOWN The hot water is first used for industrial applications and then for domestic/municipal heating/cooling and in the end for farming. After the water is depleted of heat, it is reinjected into the ground in the second bore hole thus obtaining a closed system an enviromental friendly system with no emissions. The cold water will be reheated again by the hot bedrock. Through cracks in the ground, there is a circulation between the two drill holes at 2-6 km's depth and the hot water can be used from the first drill hole all over again.

4 The heat content in the hot water is utilized in steps in a cascade system to enable maximum heat usage. The hot water is first routed to high temperature applications then to municipal and residential buildings for heating/cooling and tap water, there after the water with a lower heat content can be used in thermal baths and then on to greenhouses and further to a fish farm. Another major new application is cooling. The hot water is converted locally with an adsorption heat pump into cold liquid which can be used for airconditioning, cooling houses and large scale freezers, thereby saving the need of expensive and environmentally harmful cooling systems.

5 Technology and capacity Conventional power plants, whether heated by coal, gas, oil, biomass, or waste, have in common that the fuel is burned in a boiler that heats water to steam, the steam drives in turn a turbine that produces electricity.in a geothermal power plant, no boiler or heating is necessary, as we have hot water and steam directly from the earth. In order to generate the maximum amount of electricity it is possible to install more turbines in series one after another (Flashing). Each step reduces the pressure and temperature of the steam, which means that less and less can be extracted from it by ordinary techniques.to increase efficiency, a secondary system (Binary Cycle Technology) can be used, where a liquid with a lower boiling point than water is used to provide a higher pressure of steam, and thus more electricity. What type of technology is used and their sequence is determined by the geological conditions and the required output of the plant. The capacity can be expanded over time by adding new wells. A 2 MW plant produces power for about 3600 households and district heating/cooling to1660. A 6 MW plant produces power for about households and district heating/cooling to 5000 A 40 MW plant produces power for about households and district heating/cooling to households. Based on a 56 m 2 living space, usage of 5000 kwh power and kwh heating /cooling yearly The larger the plant, the lower is the investment/installed capacity (MW) due to up scaling effects and the payback time decreases, the profits also increases with capacity.

6 Geothermal power plant The geothermal power plant requires a small area and fits well in the landscape. Existing district heating pipes

7 Location Geothermal power plants can be built anywhere in the world, but the economic conditions vary across the world. The largest cost is the bore holes, the deeper the hole is, the more expensive it is. It is preferable to find areas where there is a good supply of hot water at a fairly shallow depth. Energeotek can build geothermal power plants all over the world. Ideal places to build at have a good supply of hot water at a relatively shallow depth, 2 km and a densely populated country, which gives a good market for district heating and cooling. This is unique. Energeotek s technology is capable of producing electricity from low temperature water, from temperatures as low as ~50 C. There are operational facilities in Europe using a variety of techniques, but none have combined the entire chain of techniques to maximize the heat utilization. A plant that produces only electricity, another that manufactures heating, some do not return the water into the ground and that is causing problems with both subsidence, long-term sustainability and enviromental impact. Yet there is no geothermal power plant with completely closed system, which utilizes all the energy. Energeotek offers a new system service innovation with turnkey facilities, which can contribute to self sustainable cities, municipality in terms of energy and food. Market Geothermal power plants can be built worldwide. To build near medium-sized cities, newly built residential areas and process industries, is preferred in order to use district heating resourcefully. Construction of the plant is done in cooperation with the city / municipality at each site. The plants are connected to the grid in order to sale the electricity. The interest in district heating and district cooling is increasing, as the fossil fuel prices are rising and becoming more unpredictable. Applications that use cooling is expected to increase constantly. Schedule A presurvey takes 6 months, during this time, specific data are collected and compiled concerning the planned geothermal power plant. This information is used to make an accurate estimation of the project schedule and the financial plan for investments, costs, payback time and profit margin that the project will require. Total time for the project is years, dependent on local authorities, that is time required to receive different permits in given country.
