1 Exercise 7 Creating a Book Dust Jacket From Scratch You ve probably been told never judge a book by its cover. However, many people will stop and look at a book in a bookstore, because it has a welldesigned, attractive dust jacket. Books are usually not advertised on TV and radio, so the dust jacket is an important method for publishers to advertise their books to the public. The dust jacket has to be attractive and have enough information to get a person interested in buying and reading the book. Microsoft Publisher 2000 is a perfect program for this task. A dust jacket has a very complicated layout and contains many different objects. However, Publisher does not come with a wizard to help you create the dust jacket. In this exercise, you have to use your skills to create the document from scratch. A dust jacket is printed on large paper. Therefore, a dust jacket cannot be printed in the classroom. It would need to be printed by a professional printer. The dust jacket you are about to make is 25 inches wide and 11 inches in height. Because of its large size, both in paper and in bytes, you will the document to your teacher. Your teacher will return your document with comments and grade through . Table 1 Your design will contain the following information: Part of Dust Jacket Front Back Spine Front Inside Flap Back Inside Flap Setting-up the Dust Jacket Part of Book Report Title of the book Author s name Picture Short summary Dust jacket creators Title Author s name The summary of the book More summary continued from the first page Biography of the author Photo of the author 1.
