1 Smart Classroom Room and Equipment Operation
2 Smart Classroom Orientation The Smart Classroom is part of the Strategic Learning Plan of the College The purpose of Smart Classrooms is to provide a state of the art technology enhanced teaching and learning environment. The room is supported and maintained by the Office of Information Technology.
3 Technical Support Room and equipment problems Use the wall phone press the Hotline key on the left for technical assistance. This will connect you with a technical support person that will be able to help you. The Hotline key on the right is for Night/Weekend Security. 5 Security Please lock the room and cabinet after use DO NOT unplug security cables Obtain Room Access Card (issued by the Security Office) Obtain A/V cabinet key (issued during training) Theft Phone lines Vandalism Equipment settings (don t adjust equipment ) (don t change wires)
6 Scheduling For scheduling special events, please contact your Provost s office No need to contact OIT if changing Smart classrooms. Operation of the room will be the same The Security Office will change your card swipe profile to allow access into the new classroom. This can be done through your Dean

9 Door Lock Procedure Room access is gained via card swipe system Cards will be issued by the Security Office Cards can be programmed to access any Smart classroom Hold the card in front of the reader Pull on the door to open

11 Entering the Room Touch the Touchpanel to wake it up. Touch the Touchpanel again to get to the Source Page. To just listen to any audio and if you do not need to have the projector turned on, then do the following: If you just want to listen to any Audio Source, do not press the System On button. The System On button will only turn on the projector and lower the screen. Everything else is already on and can be used without the projector turned on or the screen lowered. Unlock the equipment cabinet. Insert the media into the appropriate device (CD, DVD/VCR, or PC) Select your source from the source page and press play. Press Send to Screen. This will send the audio only to the speakers. Press System On button if you need to have the projector on and the screen lowered. If the projector is needed for your presentation, then press the System On button which will turn on the projector and lower the screen. Insert the media into the appropriate device. Select your source, press play. Send to screen.
12 Exiting the Room Log off the PC or Mac on turn off the monitor Remove your media from the equipment cabinet Return mouse to the cradle Return wireless keyboard to the cabinet drawer Press the System Off button on the touchpanel Press System Continue Off on the touchpanel The projector will turn off, the screen will go up Lock the equipment cabinet Turn off the lights Lock the door
13 Audio Visual Equipment This is a list of the equipment in the room: Audio Cassette Deck VCR DVD LCD Projector (ceiling) Document camera (ceiling) PC/MAC/Laptop Wireless Microphones (Cabinet drawer)

17 Touch Panel Operation When the screen is blank, touch the screen to Wake up the touchpanel Touch the screen again to go to the Source Page If you just want to listen to any Audio Source, do not press the System On button. Everything else is already on and can be used without the projector turned on or the screen lowered Select your desired source (VCR, DVD, Cassette, Main PC, Laptop, MAC, or Auxiliary AV) and then press Send to Screen. This will allow you to listen to any audio source without the projector turned on or the screen lowered Press System On, this will turn on the Projector and lower the screen Select your desired source (VCR, DVD, DOC CAM, Cassette, Main PC, Laptop, MAC, or Auxiliary AV) After you have selected your source the touchpanel will automatically change to that source control page. If the source has video capabilities a viewing window will appear in the upper right hand corner of the touchpanel. The system is designed such that you can cue up your presentation before showing it to the class.
18 Touch Panel Operation (cont.) You can press the viewing window and the image will go full screen, with the function buttons. To return to the source page press the screen. When you are ready to present press Send to screen. This will send your audio and video signal to the room. Use the Volume control and Lights control to enhance the environment. NOTE: When using the cassette player, a video image will remain on the screen when you select Send to speakers. This was designed to show an object while using the document camera and listening to an audio simultaneously. To shut the system down, press System Off button, then press the Continue System Off button. This will turn on the projector, raise the screen and turn off the equipment cabinet.

23 Document Camera Select Doc Cam on the source page on the touchpanel. Lay the object to view on the instructor s desk, + marks the spot Using the video viewing window and function buttons (Zoom in/out, Focus, Default settings) on the touchpanel, position the object as needed. When you are ready to display, press Send to screen button on the touchpanel.
24 VCR Operation After you have inserted the video tape in the VCR, select VCR on the source page on the touchpanel. Using the viewing window and function buttons (Play, FFwd, rev, etc.) cue up your video. When you are at the desired spot and you are ready to display, press Send to Screen button on the touchpanel. Adjust the volume using the Volume control Adjust the lighting using the Lights control

26 DVD Operation After you have inserted the disc in the DVD, select DVD on the source page on the touchpanel. Using the viewing window and function buttons (Play, Fwd Trk, Rev Trk, etc.) cue up your video. When you are at the desired spot and you are ready to display, press Send to Screen button on the touchpanel. Adjust the volume using the Volume control Adjust the lighting using the Lights control
27 Cassette Operation (if cassette is installed in cabinet) After you have inserted the audio cassette into the tape deck, select Cassette on the touchpanel. Using the function keys, press Play and Send to speakers on the touchpanel. NOTE: Using the cassette function only uses the speakers, video can still be displayed if needed (i.e, play a tape when using the document camera). Adjust the volume using the Volume control The system has the capability to record a lecture Insert a blank recording cassette tape into the cassette deck. Using the wireless microphone and pressing record, your voice and any background noise will be recorded on the cassette
28 Auxiliary Equipment A shelf has been provided in the equipment cabinet to connect an extra piece of Audio Visual equipment. Contact OIT if you have a need for another piece of equipment in your classroom. After the device is connected, press the Auxiliary AV button on the Source page The touch panel will switch the device, but it will NOT be able to provide the function buttons (i.e., Play, Stop, FFwd, Rev, etc) If the device has video capability, you will be able to using the viewing window to cue up your presentation. When you are ready to display, press the Send to Screen button.
29 Computer Operation Select Main PC or MAC from the source page Using the PC/MAC monitor login on the computer. See the following slides for login instructions When you are ready to display, press the Send to screen button Please don t forget to log off when you are finished
30 Laptop Connection To use a laptop in the classroom, open the compartment on the top of the instructor s desk and pull out the two cables. For best results, connect the laptop before turning it on A/V cable (black) Ethernet cable (blue) Connect the video cable to the back of the laptop and the audio cable to the headphone jack Connect the ethernet cable to the network port Turn on the laptop
31 Laptop Presentation After the laptop has been properly connected Select laptop on the touch-panel source page Press the Send to screen button on the touchpanel when you are ready to present If the image is NOT showing on the screen, press Fn & F8 on the laptop keyboard. You may have to do this a few times. The PC/MAC monitor will NOT display the laptop image
32 Wireless Microphones (only a few rooms have microphones) Two wireless microphones are provided (lavaliere and hand held) Purpose: Voice amplification and recording Only one microphone can be used at a time, please turn off the microphones when not in use. Please return the mics to the equipment cabinet drawer after use
33 Auxiliary (Check Out) Equipment Auxiliary equipment can be provided by A/V on a check out basis. The check out equipment will remain in the classroom until that piece is needed elsewhere. Please provide one week notice to A/V before the equipment is needed. If a department wants a component permanently installed in a classroom above the standard, that department can purchase the equipment through OIT.
