2 DAN BROOKS - ACADEMY DIRECTOR Now in his 13th year running the Duke Academy of Golf and his 26th summer working youth golf schools, Dan Brooks is a PGA Class A Teaching Professional and the women's golf coach at Duke University. In 26 years with the women's team, he has led his squads to 20 NCAA Championship appearances, including national titles in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007, as well as a runner-up finish in The five NCAA titles are five of six national championships for a female sport, and just five of 10 overall, in Duke's history. As a coach, he holds the most national championships for any sport in school history. His program also produced back-to-back NCAA individual champions in 2001 and 2002, while the 2005 squad featured his third NCAA individual medalist. The Blue Devils have dominated the ACC during Brooks' stint as the head coach, winning 13 consecutive ACC Championships from and 15 overall. Brooks' squads have finished the year ranked No. 1 in the country seven of the last nine years and eight of the last 11. A 2001 National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, Brooks has coached 19 All-America selections and 12 Academic All-America picks. A total of 24 former women's team members have gone on to play professionally. Two of his players, Jenny Chuasiriporn (1998) and Brittany Lang (2005), finished as the runner-up at the U.S. Open as amateurs. Brooks has been voted ACC Coach of the Year 11 times. He is also a seven-time Regional Coach of the Year and was the 1999, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2007 National Coach of the Year for his efforts. He ranks first in NCAA history with 108 tournament wins. ACADEMY INSTRUCTORS All of our instructors are Class A PGA Member Professionals, college coaches, and/or have extensive experience teaching at golf schools. FACILITIES AND ACCOMMODATIONS Students will stay in residential halls and dine in the university cafeteria, all on West Campus (near the Duke Chapel). Some meals may be catered at the golf course. We do not have accommodations for students who arrive the day before or who leave the day after school is in session. The learning facilities are superb, including four practice greens, an indoor skills center, plenty of hitting space, state-of-the-art video bays, a large air-conditioned classroom adjacent to the practice range, and a Robert Trent Jones designed/rees Jones redesigned course.

3 ACADEMY HISTORY The Academy was launched in 1998 by Dan Brooks and has seen students come from 36 states and several foreign countries over the years. DATES Week One: Saturday, June 19 - Thursday, June 24 Week Two: Saturday, June 26 - Thursday, July 1 AGES Boys and girls age 11 and older. High school graduates are not eligible. COST $1, for the week. APPLICATION FEE A $ registration fee is due with the application. The final payment of $ is due by the start of the week the student will be attending. Once a student is accepted, $ of the total payment is non-refundable for any reason. Two weeks before the Academy begins, $ becomes non-refundable. A $75.00 KEY DEPOSIT for damages, dorm key, and dorm entry card is required by Duke University and is due with your application. The deposit will be returned at check-out when the key and the card are returned, and the dorm rooms have been checked for damages. PLEASE SEND THIS DEPOSIT IN A SEPARATE CHECK. CHECK-IN AND DEPARTURE Registration will be held in the dormitory on Duke's West Campus from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on the Saturday of each week. At registration, each student must turn in his or her HEALTH FORM, unless it has already been submitted. Departure flights from Raleigh-Durham Airport should not be booked earlier than 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and no later than 8:00 p.m. TRANSPORTATION Transportation will be provided to and from the Raleigh-Durham Airport. Arrival: An Academy representative will meet your child at the baggage claim area and will accompany him or her to the Academy registration desk. Departure: We will escort your child to the check-in counter. Further information will be included in a future mailing. 4 ACADEMY PHILOSOPHY Our staff of instructors will hold to the following goals for the 2010 Duke Academy of Golf: To insure that each student receives clear and consistent instruction, with plenty of one-on-one attention. To utilize the knowledge and talents of our instructors effectively. To organize and pace our instruction for maximal fun and learning. To take full advantage of the group dynamics which only a school environment offers. To package the instructors' messages in clear, manageable material for students to carry home and refer to again and again. We will maintain a 4:1 student/teacher ratio and promise that each student will receive all individual instruction from a single coach and his or her assistant. In this way we avoid confusing the student with a mixture of "languages" from too many teachers. On the other hand, because we have a very talented group of instructors, we want all students to benefit from all instructors. Consequently, at various clinics, different instructors will take turns speaking to the entire Academy. By varying the learning environment between one-on-one instruction, individual practice, presentation format, and on-course golf, we keep students excited to learn. We also cultivate fun and enthusiasm with plenty of group discussion and competition both on and off the golf course. A golf school is only as good as the long-term improvement it produces. We send each student home with a personalized DVD of his or her golf swing which has been voiced-over by his or her coach. The coach will utilize the renowned V1 computer graphics and freeze-frame analysis to help review and clarify instruction delivered throughout the week. This visual review is far superior to any old-fashioned written evaluation. The video is designed to give our instruction staying power. AN OVERVIEW OF THE ACADEMY On Saturday following registration, students will proceed to the golf course to have their golf swings videotaped. Early taping will provide coaches the opportunity for immediate swing analysis and diagnosis. Also on Saturday, students will experience their first session in their assigned group for the week. Each group will consist of approximately eight students, a coach, and an assistant coach. Sunday through Wednesday will be full days of learning, from approximately 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Most of the students' time will be spent in assigned groups, interspersed with videotape sessions, presentations, holes of golf, contests, and discussion sessions. Evenings and nights will include video movies and relaxing on the beautiful Duke University campus. The week will end with a nine-hole scramble tournament on Thursday, followed by a picnic and awards ceremony.
