About the Tour Global Gifts 2015 Kenya Tour is a 14-day guided travel experience throughout Kenya to learn about the country s history, culture, challenges, and opportunities through hands-on experience. This is more than a vacation... it is a chance to change how you see the world and make a lasting impact through meaningful volunteer opportunities. The tour will travel throughout Kenya, spending time with organizations making a difference there, including Indiana-based AMPATH and Global Interfaith Partnership, and the fair trade group Imani Workshops. We ll help further these great organizations missions through fun and purposeful service projects. The tour will also provide opportunities for cultural exploration, individual and group reflection, and a chance to experience the natural beauty of Kenya s spectacular eco-systems. Trip highlights Tour leaders will guide participants through Kenya s capital city of Nairobi, Eldoret (home of Imani Workshops), the city of Kisumu on beautiful Lake Victoria, and the Masai Mara, one of Africa s most beautiful and vibrant national reserves. Trip highlights include: Visit the fair trade group Imani Workshops and their partner medical treatment program, AMPATH. See first-hand the impact of AMPATH s HIV/ AIDS program and visit with the artisans at Imani who have gotten a second chance at life through fair trade. Roll up your sleeves and help us with a workshop improvement and beautification project to help the artisans thrive. Experience Kenya s captivating beauty and enjoy the forests and mountains around historic Lake Victoria. Enjoy hiking, boating, and exotic bird-watching in this breathtaking natural environment. Meet the organizers and students of the Umoja Project, providing education and critical resources to some of Kenya s most vulnerable youth. Change the life of an Umoja Project family through the construction of a home or cow shed. Explore the natural wonders of the Maasai Mara, one of Africa s greatest wildlife preserves. See the stunning wildlife lions, zebra, giraffes, and more in their natural habitat.

3 Trip Cost & Inclusions Tour cost is $3,800 per person, based on double occupancy. This price includes: All accommodations, airport transfers and in-country transportation, including internal flight from Nairobi to Eldoret Primary flight scheduling guidance* Most meals (see itinerary for details) Local guides, drivers, and cooks Global Gifts staff guide Water Pre-departure information and briefings Coordination of all service work Materials and building supplies for service projects Supply essentials for home visits Park entrance fees Safari vehicle and guide Lake Victoria boat ride A $500 deposit is due upon registration. See the trip itinerary for details. Meet The Guide Kelly Trimble is a Global Gifts staff member and experienced tour guide. She has traveled extensively, lived internationally (including two years in Africa) and led ten expeditions to destinations in Africa and Europe. Prior to joining Global Gifts, Kelly served as an International Trade Specialist with the Indiana Department of Commerce. She also developed a company, ViAfrika, importing from fair trade projects and creating fair trade projects and products in South Africa.

4 Trip ITINERARY June 14 Depart U.S. Transit through Europe. Late afternoon: say our goodbyes to Imani and return to our lodging for sundown. Relax and have dinner at our lodging spot with a bonfire and reflection. June 15 Arrive to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (late evening). Transfer to hotel for overnight stay in Nairobi Upper Hill area. June 16 Early morning flight to Eldoret. After arriving, we will make our way to the AMPATH facilities, where we will be greeted and briefed by an AMPATH official on the broad scope of their HIV/AIDS treatment program. Tour the AMPATH facilities and Moi University Teaching Hospital and Riley s Mother s Hospital to see the impact of their work and relationship with Indiana. Late afternoon: Meet the women and men whose courage helps make the Imani Workshop tick. Dinner at a local restaurant. June 17 The next two days we will spend at the Imani Workshop. Our goal: Beautify Imani s back storage and garden areas to create a workable, inviting, safe and comfortable space for the employees. Work will include securing the storage areas for raw clay, painting the internal walls, gardening and general maintenance and upkeep. Lunch will be brought in so we can enjoy the company and get to know the ladies and men of Imani and hear their stories. Dinner will be at our leisure at our accommodation. June 18 Continue our work at the Imani Workshop. Lunch will be brought in for communing with the Imani staff. June 19 Up early, en route to Kisumu on beautiful Lake Victoria. We will lunch along the way in a beautiful forested area where we can enjoy hiking and bird watching. On arrival, we will be met by our host, Joseph Okuya, Global Interfaith Partnership s UMOJA Project Kenyan manager. Dinner on beautiful Lake Victoria at Kiboko (Hippo) Bay. June 20 Now we can take a breath and experience Kenya s captivating beauty and enjoy the natural landscape, mountains and environs around historic Lake Victoria. Take a boat ride on the lake, visit the bird and wildlife sanctuary. If time permits, enjoy the island, a birdwatchers paradise. Meet with some of UMOJA s interns and learn their stories. Briefing by a local Kenyan on the history and dynamics of Kenyan society. June 21 The morning will be a time for you to have leisure and reflection. There are many sights in and around the lake that will interest and entertain. Afternoon will be spent preparing ourselves for home visits by shopping for essentials for those visits. We will have the opportunity to continue discussions with Joseph and some of his UMOJA students. Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

5 Trip ITINERARY June 22 Today we dive into our work with the UMOJA project. We will visit several schools and homes of students being served by this dynamic project in Chulaimbo, outside Kisumu. We will be treated to discussions with headmasters of the schools to understand the challenges all Kenyan children face and how this project is making a difference in the lives of children served. We will be accompanied on our visit by graduates of the program so we will truly get to know our hosts and understand their lives. June 23 We start early to ensure our work today will be completed, as we will be using our hands to give back to the community in the form of building a home or cow shed. Materials will be provided, but bring your spirit, enthusiasm and strength. June 24 We will say our good-byes to Chulaimbo and our hosts en route to the natural part of our trip, a visit to the Maasai Mara. June is the month of the annual migration one of the last natural ones in the world. We will overnight just inside the park boundaries. June 25 We rise early to catch the sunrise in the bush. Today we will tour the Mara in search of lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, rhino, giraffe, baboons, zebra, gazelles and much, much more! Those who may not be bird lovers at the start of the trip are sure to be converted as we experience the wilds of the savannah. June 26 Early morning game drives are usually amazing times to see the awakening of the animals. We will breakfast after this and continue our safari in the park until midafternoon. We will then depart the park for an overnight before we return to Nairobi. June 27 Morning departure for Nairobi. Depending on flight departure times, we may have time to explore the suburb of Karen, home to the Karen Blixen Museum and Sheldrick s Elephant Orphanage. We say our good-byes to Kenya and our Trip of a Lifetime! and depart for our onward flights.
