The center of the town is within walking distance to most of the small boutique hotels located on the Island. As the main hub of activity the town is the busy with accommodating tourist and the local commerence of the Island. There are an amazing assortment of local restaurants, hotels and shops that feature Ecuadorian as well as International cuisine. Almost everything in Puerto Ayora is within walking distance or a short ride in one of the quaint white pick-up truck taxis found throughout town. Additionally, several fine restaurants and attractions are accessible by water taxi across the bustling Academy Bay harbor. A visit to the Fisherman's market is a must, where you may have to haggle with Sea Lions and Pelicans over the catch of the day. Seymour Island Seymour Island is a natural haven for the Blue-Footed Boobie. A nature trail meanders leisurely through large colonies of nesting Frigate birds and Blue-Footed Boobies. Your naturalist guide will lead you on the trails to observe the wild life up close. A short distance off shore you may beable to the seals riding the crashing waves all the way into shore. Bring your swim gear, a stop at Bachas beach for snorkeling. Santa Fe Island, Galapagos Santa Fe Island, named after a city in Spain is a small island which is located southwest of Santa Cruz Island, an easy day excursion. Santa Fe is one of the oldest islands and is relatively flat, your naturalist guide will lead you around the island of cactus, the giant Opuntia cactus which populates the island. Giant Tortuga Bay Galapagos A day excursion to Tortuga Bay will require you to hike with your naturalist guide on the trails surrounded by cacti, palo santo trees, and matasarno trees. Tortuga Bay beach is famous for its expansive and pristine shoreline that descends into the Pacific Ocean. The Marine Iguanas are plentiful and the snorkeling is the lagoon is full of Galapagos marine life with colorful reef fish, white-tip sharks, rays and sea turtles. A short walk to the Marine Iguana sanctuary where you might also catch a glimpse of Blue-Footed Boobies and Frigate birds along the shore. Isabela Island Isabela Island is the largest island in the Galapagos with a faily small population of residents. Isabela remains one of the islands in the archipelago with plenty to see and do. There are small delicious seafood restaurants and there is a nice range of accommodations. The residents and tourist stay near the town of Puerto Villamil which stretches along a beautiful expanse of beach. This island is visited by only a few commercial tour boats and offers plenty who come to visit. There is an incredible array of activities to choose from with hiking and day excursion around the island. The island is known for its flamingos, which gracefully traverse the lagoons and marshes at dusk. The Sierra Negra volcano The Sierra Negra volcano is one of five volcanos on the island of Isabela, and boasts the second largest volcanic caldera in the world (Yellowstone National Park in the United States is the largest). The hiking excursion of Sierra Negra Volcano will take you to the rim of the six mile wide crater and then you will trek across an landscape of lava fields and fumaroles.
