3 Transport lifeblood of the economy Transport is fundamental to a strong economy Freight transport keeps growing (by 80% by 2050) Passenger transport keeps growing (by 50% by 2050) CO2 emissions endeavored to fall by 60 % Key: A vitaly new infrastructure policy
4 What are the main problems? TEN-T today remains a patchwork of national networks: cross-border sections are missing; Networks nearly completed, but not for rail and inland waterways; Links between the different modes of transport are weak: ports, airports, logistic platforms need to be integrated to the various modes; The national systems hamper a true functional network: operational rules and technical systems (interoperability) block the internal transport market.
