2 Page 2 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family, It's been a big week at the rectory. Fr. Rubén has gone home to see his family and ailing grandmother. Fr. Diego passed his test to become a U.S. Citizen. This week was also Catholic School Week and we kicked off a strategic planning process. We had a meeting in November, which was open to all parents, to find two key issues to increase enrollment and deal with financial issues. We met this past week for the first time with representatives from each of the three parishes and the school, comprised of almost 25 people, to look at the future vision of the school. One of the major things that came out is the urgency for a marketing and development plan for Montini. We had a Fr. Diego, new American citizen, being celebrated in his office with red, white and blue streamers. wonderful group of people who graduated in the 50's through the 70's, realizing that we have many people who are passionate about the school. 4 Page 4 Noah s Ark Preschool Registration Noah's Ark Preschool announces registration for the School year, beginning first for enrolled and alumni families February 2 6. Parish members may register at our Open House in the preschool classrooms, on Sunday, February 8 from 9 AM -12 PM. Preschool registration opens to the public on Monday, February 9, at 9 AM. Noah s Ark Offers Mom & My School Noah s Ark Preschool announces the next session of Mom and My School will begin Thursday, February 5, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. In Concert David Haas & Lori True The Church of Holy Apostles is proud to present worldrenowned composers and performers, David Haas and Lori True, in a special concert on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 7:30 PM. The Emmaus Retreat is based on the Gospel of Luke 24: This retreat provides women from our parish and the surrounding community an opportunity to take a step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and to walk more closely with the Lord. The Emmaus Retreat begins Friday, March 20, at 6 PM and concludes with 5 PM Mass at The Church of Holy Apostles on Sunday, March 22. The retreat is held at Inspiration Ministries Retreat Center, Walworth, WI. T he cost for the weekend is $125, which includes lodging, meals and more!. Eucharistic Minister Training Sessions Eucharistic Minister Formation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4, at 7 PM in church. Anyone who is interested in serving as a Eucharistic Minister should attend one of these formation sessions. Offer Your Intentions with Candles Four large candles surround the Blessed Sacrament in the All Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel, each burning for 14 days. Request your own personal intentions for their duration by contacting the Parish Office. The suggested donation is $15 per candle. Knights Schedule Blood Drive Here McHenry Knights of Columbus Council 1288 will offer a Blood Drive for Heartland Blood Centers on Saturday, February 21, from 8 AM to 1 PM, here at Holy Apostles. There is a great shortage of blood so your donation would be greatly appreciated. All blood donations will benefit Centegra hospitals in our local area. New Faith Formation Study Topics Beginning on February 2, on Mondays at 7 PM, Butch Pintozzi will facilitate a study of The Seven Last Words of Christ. Each chapter not only looks at the actual words of Christ, but helps us to understand what Jesus endured and how this relates to us today. Beginning on February 23, on Mondays at 9 AM, Geri Condon will facilitate a women s study of The Words of the Risen Christ. Study the words that Jesus said to his closest disciples. He offers them words of strength and consolation as they remember their time together and He prepares them for the Advocate He will send them. Parents, please plan to stay during your child s class time to watch their Lenten skit, hear Father Paul answer questions submitted by the students, share a family craft and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. Parish Movie Night Invitation Everyone is invited to come watch the movie God is Not Dead, on Sunday, February 15, after the 5 PM Mass (about 6:15 PM) in Fr. Sherry Parish Center. Come spend time with your parish family and enjoy a movie together! Community Kitchen Sharing God s Love We are feeding the hungry, at no cost, in the name of Christ, every Monday at 6 PM in the Fr. Many guests have expressed how much this helps them to put food on their table at home in the days following our Monday evening meal. Marian s Annual Dinner/Auction Marian Central Catholic High School s annual dinner auction, themed A Walk Through the Emerald Isle, will be held on Saturday, March 14, at the school, 1001 McHenry Ave., Woodstock. Free Retreat for Veterans and Families The Bellarmine Retreat House, 420 W. County Line Rd., Barrington, invites all veterans and their families to a free one day retreat on Sunday, February 22, 8 AM to 6:30 PM. This retreat is about spirituality, not religion and is for all regardless of their faith life. It is a gathering with other veterans who get it in a safe, secure environment. It offers time to reflect on your military service and your transition back to civilian life that includes some low-key prayer. Modeled after the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, this retreat could begin a much-needed journey back to spiritual health for veterans and their families (over 18).
