3 1.1 PROMISe Portal and Internet Explorer 10 1 PROMISe Portal and IE10 There is a known compatibility issue with PROMISe internet website and Internet Explorer 10, the default web browser that ships with the Windows 8 operating system. Using Internet Explorer 10 default settings, the browser is unable to navigate past the login screen. Currently, the issue can be avoided by activating the browser s compatibility view mode. This guide provides instructions for adding the required settings for activating Internet Explorer 10 s compatibility view mode. This workaround corrects the issue in Internet Explorer 10 on both the Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating system. 1.2 Windows 8 Users Internet Explorer 10 the default browser that ships with the Windows 8 operating system. All Windows 8 users must configure their browsers using the following steps in order to correctly access PROMISe Portal. Note: This is a one-time process to configure Internet Explorer. Once set, Compatibility View will be activated any time the browser navigates to the PROMISe Internet Portal Access the Classic Windows Desktop Two versions of Internet Explorer 10 ship with Windows 8: a full screen version for Windows new Modern view and a traditional windowed version for the classic desktop view. In order to correctly access the PA PROMISe internet site, the browser in the classic Windows desktop must be used. To access the classic Windows desktop from the start screen, click the Desktop title to access the classic Windows desktop. Revision Date: 3/6/2013 1

4 1.2.2 Turn on Compatibility View Use the following instructions to enable compatibility view: 1. From the Classic Windows desktop, open Internet Explorer In the browser window, navigate to Revision Date: 3/6/2013 2

5 3. Right-click the empty space next to the PROMISe Internet Portal Tab. Click Command Bar in the dropdown menu. 4. From the Tools menu, select Compatibility View Settings. Revision Date: 3/6/2013 3

6 5. In the Compatibility View Settings box, enter state.pa.us into the Add this website field. 6. Click the Add button. state.pa.us will appear in the Websites you ve added to Compatibility View field. Revision Date: 3/6/2013 4

7 7. Click the Close button to exit Compatibility View Settings. A blue icon of a torn page will appear in the web address bar to indicate that Compatibility View is activated. 8. Right-click the empty space next to the PROMISe Internet Portal Tab. Click Command Bar in the dropdown menu to uncheck the selection. The Command bar will disappear from the browser. 9. Compatibility View will now be activated any time the browser navigates to the PROMISe Internet Portal. 1.3 Windows 7 Users On 2/27/13, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 10 for the Windows 7 operating system. This new version of Internet Explorer will be automatically installed on all Windows 7 machines with Automatic updates turned on. In order to successfully access PROMISe Portal with this new browser, compatibility view must be enabled. Please follow the steps below to enable compatibility view. Note: This is a one-time process to configure Internet Explorer. Once set, Compatibility View will be activated any time the browser navigates to the PROMISe Internet Portal.
