2 Welcome to the Active Kids Programs! This Spring, you will find a variety of classes to keep yourself and your child active and healthy! At The Athletic Club we are pleased to offer low-ratio classes in a fun and inclusive environment both on land and in the water. Kids and adults alike can benefit from our highly trained instructors in our affordable and specialized programs. This spring, programs we have available will include: Adult and children s swimming lessons Martial arts Kid and family yoga Synchronized swimming Gym & Swim Programs Family Zumba Kids Hip Hop This booklet will also feature the Summer Camps 2014 guide. Our day camps will offer full week, full-day and half-day options with specialized activities, daily camps swims and different themes each week. 3 How to register! The Athletic Club strives to provide our members with the best customer service possible. To ensure our standards of service please read through our registration process for insight into our programs and processes. For All Recreation Programs: All participants, or the parents/legal guardians of the participants, must be Current Members of The Athletic Club for the duration of the classes. Registration may be done at the Front Desk for Active Kids Programs (except for Swimming Lessons*) We reserve the right to cancel any classes in advance of the commencement of the course. Participants will be notified before the first day of the course and a credit or refund will be issued in the event of a cancelled class. A registration form** must be completed per participant All of our programs are offered on a first come first serve basis; course or instructor availability cannot be guaranteed. Participants cannot be placed on a class list until payment has been received. Members must register in person at the location they wish to participate at (example: Registration for Family Yoga at Trainyards must be processed at the Trainyards location). The Athletic Club reserves the right to combine and/or relocate classes at any point prior to the start of the class. Payment Process 1. Payment must accompany a completed registration form at the time of registration. 2. Complete all sections on the front side of the registration form. If you are paying for more than one registrant, you may combine the total course fees and pay with one payment option for all applicants. 3. Please carefully read the Conditions, Rules & Regulations. A parent or legal guardian signature is required for all participants under the age of 18 years old. 4. HST (13%) will be added to the total course fee. Taxes are not included in the listed course fees in this guide. 5. Cheques should be made payable to The Athletic Club. Cheques must be completed at the time of registration. There is a $ administration fee for cheques returned NSF. 6. Incomplete forms will not be processed and the registrant will not be guaranteed a place in the class. *For Swimming Lessons: Members must come in person to the Club at one of the designated swimming lesson registration dates on page 5 of the booklet. **Registration forms: Registration forms can be filled out at the time of registration. These forms are also used as tax receipts so please keep a copy for your records. Another copy will not be issued. page 3 page 4

5 Family Zumba Looking for an activity great for the entire family? Join us for Family Zumba, a class full of games and dances appropriate for all ages. Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements. ORLEANS: $75 Ages: 4-12 years old Starts: Thursday, May 1st 6:00-6:45pm Ends: Thursday, June 19th 6:00-6:45pm *Children under the ages of seven must be accompanied by a parent. Kids Hip Hop This class will introduce your child to different Hip Hop moves in a high energy dance class. Taught by dance instructors, this class is a great way to keep your kids active in a fun-filled class of Hip Hop Dance! ORLEANS: $96 Ages: 7-12 years old Starts: Saturday, April 26th 12:00-1:00pm Ends: Saturday, June 21st 12:00-1:00pm No class: Saturday, May 24th, 2014 TRAINYARDS: $96 Ages: 7-12 years old Starts: Sunday, April 27th 11:00am-12:00pm Ends: Sunday, June 22nd 11:00am-12:00pm No class: Sunday, May 25th, 2014 Introduction to Synchronized Swimming Looking to try out synchronized swimming? This program incorporates synchronized swimming techniques in a group setting while developing basic techniques vital to this sport. Taught by trained certified synchronized swimming coaches, this program offers a great introduction to the sport while developing important aquatic skills. This program is designed for children ages 7-12 who are comfortable with swimming independently in deep water. ORLEANS: $80 Starts: Monday, April 28th 6:45-7:45pm Ends: Monday, June 23th 6:45-7:45pm No class: Monday, May 26th, 2014 Gym&Swim Programs This program offers a unique all-in-one opportunity to get kids active in sports and aquatic settings! The programs, ranging from hours in length will consist of 8 weeks of classes with instructors to lead the children through active games and sports in the gym and help with the transition to the pool, and trained Red Cross Instructors to lead lessons and activities in the water. Gym&Swim $110 Ages: 7-12 years old The program starts out in the gym where healthy living is taught through sports and fitness activities. Following the gym portion, the fitness instructor will bring the kids to the pool for a 30-minute swimming lesson taught by Red Cross Instructors. 6 Splash&Play $110 Ages: 3-6 years old This program is similar to our Gym&Swim but gives the opportunity for ages 3-6 to be active with other children their age. The gym portion of our Splash&Play program will consist of age appropriate active games and activities for 45 minutes. A 30-minute swimming class in the pool taught by our Red Cross Instructors follows the gym portion. ORLEANS: Starts: Saturday, April 26th 10:00-11:30am Ends: Saturday, June 21st 10:00-11:30am No class: Saturday, May 24th, 2014 *Gym from 10:00-10:45am and lessons start at 11:00am TRAINYARDS: Starts: Sunday, April 27th 10:00-11:30am Ends: Sunday, June 22nd 10:00-11:30am No class: Sunday, May 25th, 2014 *Gym from 10:00-10:45am and lessons start at 11:00am TAC Martial Arts The A, B, C s of Life Attitude - Behaviour Concentration Our Youth Development program has helped children gain personal Discipline through a process of Goal Setting and Achievement. This is a course where Kicking, Yelling and Screaming are encouraged! Our program is designed to allow an element of fun combined with serious Martial Arts focus and very challenging physical activities. Children will explore all aspects of Martial Arts which include Sparring, Forms, Musical Forms, as well as Continuous Sparring. We also attend some Tournaments for those who like competition. Our Program is taught by Master Instructor Jamie Sabourin 2X WKA World Champion, 13X Canadian National Champion and his Assistant Instructor Silvana Calvano. AAA Kids $118 Ages: 8-12 years old This program incorporates the 3 A s: arts, athletics and aquatics. The program will test their creative abilities with a craft each week, followed by sports and activities in the gym to promote active living. Finally, the children will be brought to the pool for free swim time. Family Swim Times: Fridays 6:00-8:00 pm Sundays 1:30-4:30 pm Cost: 2.00$ per child (parents who are members are free) Not sure which swimming level your child should be in? Bring them to one of our Family Swims and have them assessed by one of our certified Lifeguards! Toddler Swim Times: Saturdays 10:45-11:45am Tuesdays 10:45-11:45am Saturdays 10:30-11:30am Wednesdays 10:45-11:45am *Please note that parents/ guardians that are nonmembers are required to pay the daily club drop in fee to attend either the Toddler or Family Swim. 8 Aqua Tots 1: 4 Months 24 Months (Starfish, Duck) *This is a combined course* Toddlers and their caregivers work on getting wet, buoyancy, shallow water entries and exits, rhythmic breathing and moving on the front and back. The child is accompanied by a parent or guardian. ** Non-members wishing to go in the water with their child must pay the daily drop in fee. Aqua Tots 2: 12 Months 36 Months (Duck, Sea Turtle) *This is a combined course* Toddlers and their caregivers work on getting wet, buoyancy, shallow water entries and exits, rhythmic breathing and moving on the front and back. The child is accompanied by a parent or guardian. ** Non-members wishing to go in the water with their child must pay the daily drop in fee. Sea Otter: 3-5 years old *Independent Class* Swimmers in Sea Otter work on front and back floats. Children also work on glides and kicking on the front and back. Upon completion of this level children will be able to swim 1 metre. Salamander: 3-5 years old Swimmers in Salamander work on improving front and back floats. Children will also work on improving their glides and kicking on the front and back as well as jumping into chest deep water unassisted. Upon completion of this level children will be able to swim 2 metres. Sunfish 3-5 years old Swimmers in Sunfish work on glides and kicking on the front and back. Children will also work on entering deep water safely, floating and swimming with a PFD. Upon completion of this level children will be able to swim 5 metres without stopping. Crocodile 3-5 years old Swimmers in Crocodile work on developing glides with kicking on the front and back. Children will also work on jumping into deep water, floating and swimming with a PFD in deep water. Upon completion of this level children will be able to swim 10 metres without stopping. Whale 3-5 years old Swimmers in Whale work on increasing their distance while gliding and kicking on the front and back. Children will also work on learning the sitting dive, and will be able to swim 15 metres without stopping upon completion. page 13 page 14

9 Red Cross Swim Kids Descriptions Swim Kids 1 (6-12 years) -Swimmers work on front and back floats, kicking on the front and back (assisted) for 5 metres and shallow water entries and exits. Swim Kids 2 (6-12 years) -Swimmers learn front and back glides with kicking, develop front swimming (10 metres continuously) and work on deep water activities (assisted) Swim Kids 3 (6-12 years) -Swimmers work on increasing their distance with their glides on the front and back (15 metres) Swim Kids 4 (6-12 years) -Swimmers learn front crawl (10 metres) and begin back glides with shoulder roll, preform kneeling dives, and a continuous swim (25 metres) Swim Kids 7-10 (6-12 years) *This is a combined course* -This combined level will work on developing and furthering swimmers endurance as well as developing elementary backstroke, learning breast stroke and side stroke. Swimmers also begin to develop basic First Aid skills. Swim Kids 7: Front Crawl and Back crawl (50 metres) Continuous swim (150 metres) Swim Kids 8: Front Crawl and Back Crawl (75 metres) Continuous swim (300 metres) Swim Kids 9: Front Crawl and Back Crawl (100 metres) Continuous swim (400 metres) Swim Kids 10: Front Crawl and Back Crawl (100 metres) Continuous swim (500 metres) Private Lessons The Athletic Club also offers Private and Semi-Private Lessons. These lessons give participants a unique opportunity to have an abundance of one on one time with the instructor. Private Lessons are perfect for someone who needs a little extra attention, whether it is a specific level or just for stroke improvement. Swim Kids 5 (6-12 years) -Swimmers begin learning back crawl (15 metres) work on treading water in deep water (1 min.), continue developing front crawl (15 metres) and complete a continuous swim of 50 metres. Swim Kids 6 (6-12 years) -Swimmers continue to develop front and back crawl (25 metres), learn elementary back stroke, as well as a continuous swim of 75 metres. page 15 page 16

12 Youth/Teen Programs Interested in developing strokes or becoming a lifeguard? Youth programs are geared for ages years old to help bridge the gap between our kids programs and adult programming in the club. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop skills geared towards fitness and lifesaving. Classes start: the week of Saturday, April 26th to Friday, May 2nd Classes End: the week of Tuesday, June 17th to Monday, June 23rd Junior Lifeguard 1 continued... ($70) Tuesdays 7:15-8:15pm ($70) Wednesdays 6:45-7:45pm Teen Swim Power Hour: Ages: years old This program provides swim fitness for children through stroke-focused classes. The focus of the class is incorporated through drills and fitness challenges to improve endurance, power and competitive stroke technique. This program is great for children who are capable of swimming lengths comfortably and who are looking for a different challenge. It is recommended that participants have completed Swim Kids 5 prior to this course ($70) Wednesdays 6:45-7:45pm ($70) Tuesdays 7:15-8:15pm Junior Lifeguard 1: Ages: years old Interested in learning about lifeguarding skills? Junior Lifeguard 1 is a program developed for children who have completed their swimming lessons through Swim Kids 10 and are still too young to continue to the lifesaving levels, and/or are interested in learning lifesaving and first aid skills. The course will develop first aid skills, learn lifesaving rescues and work towards the timed swims. The prerequisite for this course a minimum age of 10 years old, completion of Swim Kids 8 or able to swim 300 meters. page 21 page 22

13 Adult Swimming Lessons Want to learn to swim, improve your strokes or improve your fitness? The following courses are all taught by experienced aquatic instructors who will help each individual participant develop a concrete plan to ensure success and achieving the goals that they have set out. Adult Swimming Lessons Continued Adult Swim Advanced: Swimming is a full body workout that can be adapted to each individual s needs. For experienced swimmers who are looking to change up their exercise routine, this class will provide you with a challenging work out that will help you achieve your goals. Classes start: the week of Saturday, April 26th to Friday, May 2nd Classes End: the week of Tuesday, June 17th to Monday, June 23rd * No classes during the May Long Weekend (Saturday, May 24-Monday, May 26th). Adult Swim Beginner: This class is geared towards new swimmers with little or no experience in the water. Swimmers will learn the basics of swim strokes, floating, treading water and becoming more comfortable in an aquatic setting. Strokes will be taught using progressions. ($72) Tuesdays 7:45-8:30pm ($72) ($72) Tuesday 7:45-8:30pm Wednesday 7:45-8:30pm (Women s Only) Wednesdays 7:30-8:15pm Adult Swim Intermediate: This class is geared towards swimmers who are comfortable with the basic strokes but are looking to develop and build upon their skills. The focus of the class is on stroke development, building endurance, and strengthening overall aquatic ability. Swimmers should be familiar with the basics of the main strokes (front crawl, back crawl). Strokes will be taught using progressions. 14 Summer Camp The Athletic Club is pleased to offer FULL and HALF-DAY SUMMER CAMPS for the children of our members! Members may sign up children for one day, half day, one week and multiple week options. The last day of registration will be the Thursday before each new week of camp. Camps are available for children of members only. Camp Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday (Half-day: 8:30am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm) Before + After Care: 7:30-8:30am and 4:30-5:30pm Please note that Before and After Care can be purchased at $5 each or $10 for both per day, and must be purchased prior to the start of the camp week.
