2 Project Overview FAA is focused on improving design, construction, and facility management processes: BIM is revolutionizing the industry, so FAA is interested how it applies to the agency s needs. A Proof-of-Concept project using an existing Tower was initiated in mid FAA tasked the NISC team to deliver a proof of concept for Lifecycle BIM.

20 Importance of Good BIM & QC Current BIM projects do not focus on Information poor quality of deliverables Few owners have BIM Guidelines detailing required info (i.e. similar to COBie Guide) Without high quality deliverables BIM for FM is not implementable FAA used EcoDomus PM quality control software making sure COBie rules are followed

21 COBie for Data QC COBie s role in this project was to ensure all software applications (Revit, EcoDomus PM, Archibus, webtma) describe objects and relationships the same way The way information is exchanged among the applications (web services, ODBC, API, Excel file exchange, etc.) is not as important as ability to define data in a universal way All project participants (Autodesk, Archibus, EcoDomus, TMA) are COBie certified and can import/export COBie files. Direct integration has some advantages over a file based exchange: it allows to keep information always up-to-date.
