Kerry Film Festival Secret Cine Club Secret Venue 8pm 10 pm Kerry Film Festival's Secret Cine Club presents groundbreaking films in extraordinary settings. The venue is secret until the last minute and the film remains a secret until the credits roll across the screen! Join us for an adventure in cinema. Where? Kerry County Museum After Dark at the Museum 6pm 10 pm Stroll down a medieval street dressed up in costume, dig up a skeleton, marvel at beautiful photographs from Kerry and explore 8,000 years of history in the Museum Gallery. Special events include master of the tale Niall de Burca, music by Sliabh Mish Comhaltas and the Cíar Quilters Gathering exhibition. Traditional Music with Sliabh Mish Comhaltas 6pm 7.30pm

2 Kicking off Culture Night at Kerry County Museum at 6pm, we are delighted to announce that Sliabh Mish Comhaltas are back again by popular demand. Like all our Culture Night events, admission is free and everybody is welcome to experience traditional music, dance and story telling at its finest. Ancestors Tales Story telling with Niall de Burca 7.30pm 8.30pm (Family Event) 9pm 10pm (Teenage and Adult Event) Kerry County Museum s fifth Culture Night sees the return of master story teller Niall de Burca. His Ancestors Tales will raise the hair and tickle the spine! A family performance for parents with young children is taking place at 7.30pm. Teenagers and adults can enjoy a later performance at 9pm The Gathering of Quilts 6pm 10pm This is your chance to attend a special late opening of The Gathering of Quilts, a temporary exhibition by the Cíar Quilters. On display are all types of quilts from traditional to contemporary. Members of the Cíar Quilters will be at hand throughout the evening to discuss their work with you. 3 African Drumming Workshop St. Patrick s Bungalows, Boherbee, Tralee 7pm 9pm An opportunity to listen, learn and enjoy high energy interactive African drumming in a friendly group environment. Culture Night Sign of the Times by Stained Glass Artist Mary J. Leen In recognition of Tralee s participation in Culture Night 2013 I decided to create a historical snapshot of the night by creating a Stained Glass Census called Sign of the Times. This involved the participants of the night hand painting their name, age and occupation on a panel of stained glass. Children painted their dream future occupations. Using special stained glass paint nearly 200 participants hand painted their details on stained glass panels. The panels were all kiln fired to ensure permanency. When presented the final artwork results in a 20 foot long stained glass art piece. Due to the success of the event last year I propose that we continue with Sign of the Times for Culture Night 2013 and beyond, but to get even more participants to sign the stained glass. The 2012 census will be on display and people can find their own names as well as looking at the fascinating myriad of occupations ranging from Unemployed to Ballerina to Radio Presenter. Kenmare The Carnegie Arts Centre Carnegie Arts Centre Culture Night Extravaganza The Library Building, Shelbourne Street, Kenmare. 6.30pm 11pm Carnegie Arts Centre in conjunction with Culture Night 2013 is offering a variety of Free Events on Friday 20 th September. They will include Irish Dancing from local dance school, a sing-a-long for the active retired, a Trad

4 session from local musicians and singers and The Local Vocal Club a contemporary music variety show from local artists. Killarney Muckross Traditional Farms The School House, Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms 5.30pm 7pm Muckross Traditional Farms transports the visitor into the past and a very different Ireland the Ireland of the 1930s and 1940s. In keeping with this experience Muckross Traditional Farms are teaming up with The Killarney School of Music to offer free introductory music classes to children under 12 in traditional Irish music. 8pm -9pm Killarney School of Music will present a special one-off performance by its tutors and students in the unique surroundings of the newly opened School House. Hugh O Flaherty Memorial Society O Flaherty s WW2 Footsteps The Malton Room, The Malton Hotel Killarney 7.30pm 8.15pm Follow the international profile of The Vatican Pimpernel and the tour in October 2012 retracing his footsteps in Rome. Afro Trad Ireland From Uganda to Kerry A musical journey with stories and drumming KYDS Killarney 8pm 9.30pm Enjoy African & Irish Culture with Live Music, Ugandan Stories & Song. You then get to play a drum and become part of the band. Instruments are

5 provided and no experience required. Just bring your love of music and craic along and Afro Trad will do the rest! Killarney Arts Killarney Arts Open Invitation Foyer of the Dept of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, New Road, Killarney 6pm 10pm Killarney Arts invites you to an evening of Visual Arts, Painting, Sculpture and Film as well as live performances of Music, Song, Dance, Storytelling and Q&A with its members and associates including Spraoi Chiarrai (Kerry s own Traditional Arts Performance Group). There will also be a presentation on Killarney s New Public Art installations and information on the community art project being run by Killarney Arts (Learning through Art, Two Generations Story and Song, Arts Café and Artist s Workshops). There will also be the official launch of the new Killarney Arts Website. Listowel St John s Theatre and Arts Centre The Square, Listowel 7pm-8pm The legendary playwright and director Joe Murphy will give a talk and present a short film about the history of St John s Theatre and Arts Centre and how it came to an integral landmark on the arts and culture landscape in Kerry.
